i'm trying to decide on my backup because there is so much fun stuff out there that I want to try, so i'm looking at what other people like to play
i'm currently looking at an air elemental specialist mage with a dip into crossblooded sorc so i can blast (its a guilty pleasure of mine. I know its not optimal, but it is satisfying), but I play lots of mages. The fun part comes in the backstory because our GM doesn't much look at elemental specializations I get to be from a thought to be extinct order of mages, and I haven't played very chaotic good in a while. A teacher who goes with the winds and helps all he can just sounds like fun
what is out there that other people like that they'd wanna play?

I'm about to start a chelaxian noble game(think game of thrones meets the RA salvatore drow noble families)Since I have that on my mind it colors my opinion. SO I think I'd play the second son order of the dragon or cockatrice cavalier hell knight or the disgraced bastard son who's supposed to be minor wizard, but who's actually a powerful Nidalese shadow wizard(using those darkness/illusion feats out of inner sea magic).

Given permission, I'd play an imp with character levels (rogue most likely). I don't know what the "level advancement" would be, but I don't really care. At that level, I think it would work.
Further, I'd want to take Leadership and attract a humanoid wizard as my companion.
The companion would have summoned my character in hopes of binding him, but would have failed to do so. You see, he hadn't realized that the tome in which he discovered the summoning spell was planted there by the imp, and that it contained a flawed binding circle. With no real power over the imp, the wizard hadn't realized the terms he had agreed to. Rather than binding himself an infernal familiar, he was duped into selling his soul, and thus enslaving himself. Perhaps the terms are scorched into his flesh, an infernal contract binding him (similar to the "True Name" arcana wizards have access to; with a command word, the imp can cause his human-familiar pain; a leash for his soul).
Now, that's what I'd want to play: A dastardly little imp. No real plans for world domination or anything of the like. Just a little dude on a vacation, crusin' around and lookin' for a good time (I mean, would you want to spent eternity in hell?).

I currently play a sorcerer 5/dragon disciple 8. This has been a very satisfying character so far. Plus the additional options for some minor melee due to strength bonuses from the disciple side.
There are a lot of options with sorcerers.
really? i've always wondered how dragon desciple would play
th air mage gets to cast fly at-will as the 10th level ability, that's what caused me to look at that harder. The other specializations don't have powers like that
The grenadier looks fun, but i can't find a fun personality to go with it except for one of the tick villains, the midnight bomber. but that could end in hilarity

Sword and board ranger based on link. I've had the build in my head for a long time, but due to most of the players in my game liking fighter types and me liking casters I'm always a full caster of some kind.
I know what you mean. I want to play a monk who is constantly looking for water and his thirst is never satiated, thus he is generally very tranquil as he has been dealing with this thirst for as long as he lives. so he's used to self denial, but I love casters so much. My most effective characters are casters always, and I love the reality bending powers of mages

One good example of fun things to do with a dragon disciple is wings. Next level I get those cool wings which means I never have to cast a fly spell on myself again. Couple this with my sorcerer side reaching the level I would normally get them at and I get a 90 fly speed. This and lots of fun ways to use spells due to the spontaneous casting. That and she has a 26 CHA with a 30 bluff.

Fighter 1/Wizard 5/Eldritch Knight 6
Monk 1/Fighter 1/Sorcerer 4/Dragon Disciple 4/Eldritch Knight 2 with Empyreal and Draconic bloodlines who doesn't wear armor
Paladin 2/Sorcerer 4/Dragon Disciple 4/Eldritch Knight 2
Stuff along those lines always intrigues me, and really comes into its best power at the levels you're starting with.

Can't say I wouldn't want a 12th level Dragon Disciple to fool around with. There are so many cool options, although a 7th level Summoner/4th level DD with final level of Summoner Broodmaster with Dual Wand Monkeys and Dimensional Dervish might be the option I would choose for 12th level. I always wanted to do one for PFS, but the nearest table is a three hour drive. Not good for multiple sessions.
Quite frankly, I would love to try out all sorts of prestige classes if I got to start at level 12. Duelist would be fun, Horizon walker or Bloatmage would be cool too. Of course nothing blasts like a good Alchemist either. If you haven't tried one of those, I would give it a shot.

oh man what a bad question. so many awesome things when the level 20 abilities are not in the picture. i thin a better question would be what would you not play. and i would never play a solid bard. personal preference and nothing else, bards may be good now but i was scarred in 3.5 playing one.
my favorite PFs character was a oath of vengeance pally with 4 levels of 2 handed fighter. it hit very hard had incredible saves, and could clear the field of books in one combat round.

CAGM superstitious human invulnerable rager barbarian.
Using a nodachi wih combat reflexes, watch as you get more attacks then a zen archer and for hitting harder too. Crazy amount of damage, especially with raging brutality later at 13th level for more damage.

Sacred Servant Paladin of Ragathiel with the Rage Domain. A Raging Paladin is a beautiful, wonderful, thing I have always wanted to try.
Alternately, the Lore Oracle 1/Barbarian 11 I've always wanted to play with the Sidestep Secret and Focused Trance. Dump Dex and jack Charisma and Strength. Totally standard Barbarian in combat, but the spirits speak to him and grant him knowledge when he asks. Has at least a rank in every Knowledge skill and just wrecks those checks when needed outside combat. Maxed Diplomacy, Sense Motive, and likely Bluff (I'd take a Trait to make it class). Lame Curse, and probably possessed of the whole Spell Sunder/Strength Surge thing to Rage Cycle and destroy spells because why not? But the point is to have a Barbarian who rocks at social and knowledge skills.
Finally a Paladin (Oath of Vengeance) 4/Lore Oracle 1/Monk 3/Champion of Irori 4. Same Revelations as the Barbarian above, probably the Tongues curse. Jacks Wisdom and Charisma along with Strength. Dumps Dex. Smites the hellout of any Evil or Chaotic enemies who appear, since he has something like 9 smites a day or more if he likes. Very similar to the above Barbarian outside of combat, well, mechanically anyway.
Probably the first or third, actually. The second still works as low as level 2, and is perfectly sound at level 3 or higher...the first and especially the third are exclusively high level builds.

I hate, hate, HATE crossblooded sorcerers, despite how much I want to love them. I just could not give up those extra spells known. Me, I would rather get all the spells I could.
I also like Stormborn bloodline for blaster types. In a level's time, you get Chain Lightning which, in my opinion, is the best blast spell you can get as a 6th level slot.
Also, it's a guilty pleasure of mine to get Craft Wondrous Item, Leadership, and followers all with Cooperative Crafting. Get whatever you want crafted in a day's time.

A stereotypical invulnerable rager beast totem, superstitious barbarian...with a single level dip into archaeologist bard. With the fate's favored trait and the lingering performance feat, I could get +2 to attack, damage, saves, and skills for about the same number of rounds as I can rage. Because the barbarians needed more to be an excellent tank. It would go even better if it was gestalt between those classes though.
A similar concept comes with a MoMS monk 1/ranger x. This is because I like the idea of unarmed strikes, but ranger is just plain better as a TWFer. Maybe take boar style feats, since I also like claws, but actual natural attack builds can't really rely on them. Again, I could do more interesting things if I gestalted the two.

Cross Blooded Sorcerer with Elemental and Draconic Bloodline, your will is high enough to take the hit.
Take Eldritch Heritage (Abyssal, Claws) and Improved Eldritch Heritage (Strength of the Abyss)
After getting to around Dragon Disciple 8 I would finish off with Paladin for better Smity goodness.
Find a way to get a backstory for a character that is half human, half celestial, half dragon, half elemental, half demon.
If I had a chance to rebuild my character; this is what I would play.
Or a variant...

Get 4 arms dual weild with 1.5 strength on each weapon...get a Ring of Battle Frenzy to add Rage.
My DM won't let me play it and with good reason. It's ridiculous.

If you want to blast with the Wizard then there are two main routes you can go at 12th. One route is to dip a level of crossblooded sorcerer for the +2 damage/dice and stock up on metamagic like Intensify and Empower. Personally I would go straight caster and go down the Dazing route. Focus on upping the spell DC's and render your enemies inert with your preferred dazing blast spell.
You can sort of do both at 15 when spell perfection comes on line but the feat requirements are too much at lower levels. Metamagic rods can allow a bit of cross over between the two but they are expensive, heavy, take up a hand and only useable a few times per day.

I never got as far as testing the mechanics or finding options to take out things like this. Even if it's completely legal...my DM won't let me play it so I didn't bother.
Didn't help my case when I named him Arthur Curry.

I'd go for an angelkin aasimar, Fighter (Weaponmaster) 3/Slayer 2/Wilder (battle) 4/Sighted Seeker 3. I'd take 3 feats to gain an animal companion (small cat) of my full level and the aasimar feat that grants the character wings
Even with less than stellar stats I'd be able to do a great lot of different stuff at level 12 and I'd have a great deal of fun :-)
