Rules Questions

In an upcoming Legacy of Fire game I'll be playing a witch with the misfortune hex. As luck would have it, my friend is planning on playing a cleric with the chaos domain. If a save is forced on a target under the effects of of both misfortune and touch of chaos abilities, how many rolls must the target make? Can they endlessly trigger off one another? I've copied and pasted the rules text for both abilities from the PRD below. I'm sure that this has been brought up before, but I can't find a resolution to it anywhere (just how people would allocate it in their own games). Thank you in advance.

The PRD wrote:
Misfortune (Su): The witch can cause a creature within 30 feet to suffer grave misfortune for 1 round. Anytime the creature makes an ability check, attack roll, saving throw, or skill check, it must roll twice and take the worse result. A Will save negates this hex. At 8th level and 16th level, the duration of this hex is extended by 1 round. This hex affects all rolls the target must make while it lasts. Whether or not the save is successful, a creature cannot be the target of this hex again for 1 day.
The PRD wrote:
Touch of Chaos (Sp): You can imbue a target with chaos as a melee touch attack. For the next round, anytime the target rolls a d20, he must roll twice and take the less favorable result. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

To a lesser extent the fate sub-domain's tugging strands ability, the ill omen spell, and the Persistant Spell feat may play into this within a few levels as well.

Doubled doublings usually result in 3. I don't see why this case would be different, the intent seems to be to "add 1 die" and take the worst result.

Where can I find this about doubling doubles?

Liberty's Edge

I just want to go on record as predicting that this will become very frustrating for your GM, very quickly.

Let's see though

Ill Omen, should add dice(says as much given that the spell itself grows in power)

Tugging Strands/Persistent look to be a full reroll, which would trigger rolling all those dice again.

Ugh, best I can find atm

Multipliers

Whether RAW lines up exactly with RAI, I do think the intent on stacking these abilities is clear.

Normal die roll + 1 more (+++)

These aren't multipliers to rolls. These are creating new rolls. That passage has nothing to do with the abilities above.

I don't believe these abilities were intended to endlessly bounce back and forth, but it looks like they might, possibly due to an oversight in the rules text (especially since misfortune was added to the rules later than the chaos domain).

I'm trying to figure out what the most likely stopping point is by the rules.

If they do endlessly bounce back and forth we likely won't combine them (without working out some houserule with the GM on how many dice get thrown) because we don't want to be "those guys," which is why we need to know if they do or not.

Well, at worst, Touch of Chaos would double the number of dice from Misfortune/Ill Omen

I can see a reading supporting that, but I don't see a recursive loop anywhere.

I can see stopping at 4 dice. You are making one check, rolling twice due to misfortune, rolling each of those dice twice due to touch of chaos, but not repeating since it is still only a single check, however it gets a little awkward when ill omen is added in, which if I recall correctly rerolls xd20s, and Persistant Spell, which if the save ends up coming up a success, it is done all over again, with many more dice, or tugging strands causing a similar situation or adding to it.

I can see the idea behind just adding a die, but don't see any rules behind it.

It is a bit unclear and could be better written as to how multiple rerolls function in conjunction with one another considering the numerous rerolling abilities that Pathfinder has published.

EDIT: For spelling and clarity.
