I'm not sure if this has been considered or crossed anyone's mind yet but what would your opinions on an in-game card game like Magic:The Gathering or Yu-Gi-Oh in PO be?.
As much as I'm looking forward to PO every MMO has its point when you lose interest or become less engaged, and I don't think PO will be any exception (sorry if I sound negative!!!). I'm thinking a nifty little side feature like a trading card game can keep people occupied if they want a change of pace from the base content and offer many hours of amusement in return.
Mini games and side features are like the icing on the cake for many games and I have a feeling a trading card game will encourage people to sink their teeth into the game further.
Personally I love trading card games, the collecting, structuring decks, and playing against friends (or enemies!) will be largely complemented and suited to a sandbox MMO (particularly a fantasy themed one), and as far as I know no other MMO has an in game TCG implemented.
I realize there may be technical issues preventing this or other problems that would make it difficult to pull off, or simply not enough people would be interested, but its just a suggestion and I'm wondering what all you guys think?.
Thanks, and sorry in advance for the poor sentence structuring, it's late here and I'm knackered XD

My problem with TCGs is that they are usually just money-sinks. Although I think the idea of in-game pastime games like poker would be great. Maybe even some "outdoor" games like croquet.
However, I think that being able to move around inside Forts should be much higher on the priority list... *winks*

When I read this post, I immediately thought of Triple-Triad from FF8 (ducks and shields himself from anything that might be thrown). Not sure how anyone else felt about it, but I really enjoyed the game within the game. Probably the added benefit of the cards being able to be transformed into items your character could use helped make it a worthwild pursuit.
However, in PFO, I am not sure I could see a game like that really working. Maybe a somewhat automated poke'mon-esk game using summon monster spells, but not a trading card game.

Portable gaming boards are an item in Pathfinder, as are marbles, tarot decks, and other commonplace gaming items.
Why not allow these presumably in-game items to allow two or more player characters to have a "mini-game" experience. Less dramatic than a Pathfinder original game, but serves its purpose as a minor distraction between adventurers. Inns or taverns could have stationary or "higher quality" versions of these games (imagines chess boards in the park where you sit down and wait for someone to join you), and people may be able to wager on the outcomes of such games.
Would that be something that could be coded into PFO?

Don't forget the deck of many things card game. Wasn't there a guild composed of people who had survived their encounter with the deck of many things? I believe they used fake decks to play a card game based on number of draws and outcomes.
That being said, there was an interesting version of the deck of many things that, if built into a house of cards, would transport the person(s) who built the house of cards into a module-esk realm. There, they would have to fight and defeat the embodiment of the negative cards of the deck, and their reward was the ability to choose one of the good cards to benefit from.
Module idea? *hint hint, wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more*

Since the blog post on structures suggested a non-3D interface while inside buildings (for launch at least), the inside of the building could be treated like a chatroom. The "lobby" would be the central chat area, while other specialized areas could be available (player created?) to represent private booths, game tables, or just physically different parts of the building.
Maybe bards or rogues could "eavesdrop" into private rooms?
Either way, I think this will help promote mini-games, as far as space is concerned within the physical structure.
Also, player owned gambling house anyone? Like an Inn but with a variety of games of chance (perhaps with a percentage set by the house). The house would have to provide an initial stake (gold), but would get gold as patrons played and lost. Lobster and steak buffet is optional.

A TCG style mini game might be pushing it a bit far for world flavor, but if fluffed properly I think alot of people would love it. Not much for that kind of game myself but I know a few friends of mine that may try the game out just for a mini game like Magic: The Gathering. As far as a few gambling mini games, I don't think you could have a shady tavern without a game or two of dice in the corner. Though yeah all this stuff is secondary to the main game and I think GW has enough on their plate without minigames to muck up the works till well after launch. Love the ideas though. I would really like having a little gambling den as well.
