Ragwaine,

for the command words, I always fall back to the verbal component for spells which states:

Quote:
Verbal (V): A verbal component is a spoken incantation. To provide a verbal component, you must be able to speak in a strong voice. A silence spell or a gag spoils the incantation (and thus the spell). A spellcaster who has been deafened has a 20% chance of spoiling any spell with a verbal component that he tries to cast.

Not sure if official, but seemed to be a likely way to play it out. This makes it need a "strong voice" to state the command word. Personally I would not allow it to be whisper, but it also does not need to be a shout.

Last campaign I was in we were about to take our 9th lvl characters on to a sea going vessel for a long journey, and also knew the DM was going to throw a pirate captain/vessel at us mid voyage (he kept taunting!). I threatened to make an instant fortress just to board the enemy ship with and spring into being as close to a side as possible... looking at the weight capacity of most sea going vessels, this would nearly instantly flip the ship and sink it rather quickly... we never got to get on those ships :P

don't forget that the walls extend down 10' Get that close to the side and it may also tear through and let a little water in...

Although my favorite ship sinking method in PF is passwall. Specifically arrows of passwall fired by an arcane archer. but that is another story..

Liberty's Edge

55.000 gp to sink a ship (27.500 if you were the one building the Instant fortress).
The GM should have let you do that and put the encounter over the lair of some nasty sea creature like aboleths . Maybe the pirates were even working for them.

@Hapller

Passwall isn't an area spell. You can't use it with Imbue Arrow.

The Exchange

if you're just interested in damage dealing, buy a headband if int with use magic device skill (if needed), and have someone buy/create a wand of fireball with 15th level casting. same damage, much less money.

Hey Chernobyl, actually I wasn't interested in damage at all I wanted to make something like the instant fortress and was really shocked it was such a powerful weapon since I never thought of it as one.

Happler, that sounds like a good idea. I thought command words were more about making it hard to figure out how to get a magic item to work but what you're saying makes sense.
