How would a Kitsune deploy a boot blade? Or other races with non-human feet?

I mean if he wears boots, and the knife is set to go off when the person wearing the boot does something I would suspect that the designer who builds the boot for the kitsune would ensure his customer can use the device in question. I mean the kitsune still has toes and what not right?
