okay maybe an idiot here but trying to puzzle out how the "blankity blank" a half orc sorc with favored class ability works because it says in the APG and I quote here "sorcerer:add 1/2 to fire spell damage" does that mean at 20th level you have a 10 X damage mod to fire damage if chosen for every level or is it just a one time choise to substition ???
someone please help define this as it is a maddening thing my current orc sorc chose this thinking it a simple choise but now some questions have arisen and needing some definition

It means every 2 times you take it you get +1 to fire spell damage regardless of spell level. At level 20 you could have an extra +10 to fire damage that way.

Racial Favored Class Benefits (Advanced Player's Guide)
Finally, some of these alternate favored class benefits only add +1/2, +1/3, +1/4, or +1/6 to a roll (rather than +1) each time the benefit is selected; when applying this result to the die roll, round down (minimum 0). For example, a dwarf with Rogue as his favored class adds +1/2 to his trap sense ability regarding stone traps each time he selects the alternate Rogue favored class benefit; though this means the net effect is +0 after selecting it once (because +1/2 rounds down to +0), after 20 levels this benefit gives the dwarf a +10 bonus to his trap sense (in addition to the base value from being a 20th-level Rogue).

thanks guys I asked because NOWHERE does it say 1/2 point
just 1/2 to damage I tried looking it up in the errata but found nothing
It's very awkwardly worded. Most checks you just add a value to, but damage specifically has points added. If it said "Add +1/2 to caster level checks", it'd make perfect sense.

You've got other problems with it.
Does it apply to all the ray in scorching ray? Can you shoot all of them at one target?
If you have a way to do an elemental substitution, does it affect damage over time each round (acid arrow)? Or fire shield or wall of fire?
They pretty well limited the evoker's similar bonus, but there is no wording limiting this.
It's either really good or not what I would have hoped for.
Best of all as far as I know there is nothing but opinion one way or the other on how it works.
I've seen some things posted here that make me wonder whether it also applies to spells from things like scrolls and wands.
