Gunslinger = Alternate for what Class

In Ultimate Combat Class descriptions, it actually states that the Samurai is an alternate Cavalier and the Ninja is an alternate Rogue. I'm assuming the Gunslinger is an alternate Fighter, but it doesn't specifically say so.

It's not. It's a brand new class as to much changed from the original base (which Ithink was Fighter) to make it an alternate. So they made it a new class instead.

During the playtest it was identified as an alternate Fighter, but the general reaction to it was that the class' progression was not even remotely similar.

Gunslinger is somewhere between fighter and ranger, but it's far enough from both that it's not actually an alternate.

Last but not least, this book introduces three brand-new character options: the gunslinger base class, the samurai and ninja alternate classes,

The gunslinger isn't an alternate to anything. It's a new base class like the six introduced in the Advanced Player's Guide. You can multiclass freely between (for example) fighter and gunslinger.

Thanks guys. I don't own UC yet, but I did remember during the playtest that it was listed as an alternate.
