Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

In a number of gaming settings, the developers deliberately leave some stuff 'open' for GMs to freely play with without fear of having a supplement contradict their home game. Stuff like the cause of a certain explosion, where a particular NPC was hanging out during some time off-camera, etc.

Does the Pathfinder/Golarion setting have any of these? For instance, is it established anywhere how/why Aroden died?

Dark Archive

Aroden's death is indeed such a mystery, and, IIRC, James Jacobs has stated that he doesn't intend for the truth surrounding it to ever be revealed.

Other mysteries may or may not ever be dealt with, as the setting is developed, such as the nature of the Four Pharoahs of Ascencion and their connection to the Dark Tapestry (and the 'countdown'), or what exactly happened to Old Mage Jatembe and his Ten Magic Warriors, or where Nex wandered off to, or whether the Black Sovereign of Numeria is machine or man (and the techno-mages control the machine-men, or the other way around...).

Has anything more ever been said about that ominous inscription on the sphere that sits at the center of the Negative Energy Plane? I actually got a chill down my spine the first time I read that. It's probably my single favorite piece of mysterious "What the %$#&?" lore in any campaign setting ever.

Whichever one of you fellows at Paizo thought that up, let my buy you a beer sometime. I insist.

*grin* I did something good then.

To be honest Todd, every bloody thing you write is like Swiss cheese full of wonderful plot holes and WTF moments.

And yes, that Negative Energy Plane bit made me go "eeeek..." as well. Well played.

I do a lot of that stuff (open ended mysteries, dangling plot hooks, etc), and it's something in both my home game and published work that I prefer as a style. Mind you, it's something that isn't necessarily desired by everyone out there (I've gotten criticized for it in a few books, so I've tried to remain cognizant of that fact).

As for 'Eternity's Doorstep' it's one of those things that was derived from stuff in my home campaign, though in a -very- different form from what showed up there. I answered the question of its origin, purpose, and internal contents in a plot arc in that campaign, but as far as Golarion goes, big giant dangling mystery for everyone's own campaigns to answer (unless Paizo decides that it gets explored in future products by others or myself, which is always an option).

'The Great Beyond: A Guide to the Multiverse', page 10, under the section for Eternity's Doorstep.

OK. I don't have that book yet. Maybe after I recover from Xmas I will check it out.
