Also, if you want one for the second annual commemorative APL Anniversary T-Shirts (you can see the art for it at the APL Facebook page. The Wyvern's Tale is helping keep this a bit more sane for us by acting as the single location for pre-order payment for the t-shirts.
Shirts should be distributed at the anniversary game so everyone can be gaming in style!!
So get yourself to the Wyvern's Tale and place your order BY THE WEEKEND OF THE 23RD!! As with last year's Blood Under Asheville t-shirt, this is a single run shirt and will not be available after the last of the shirts are gone. Do not say you have not been warned. :)
For those who are out of the area and are interested in the shirt, send me a PM and we will see what we can work out for getting you a shirt.

Just a friendly reminder about the Year of the Asheville Lodge Anniversary t-shirts. Orders and payment need to be made by NEXT SATURDAY (Nov 23) at the Wyvern's Tale.

The shirts will be ready by the time we do our anniversary game in December ... and you will want to be looking stylish for the game now don't you?
What anniversary game, you ask? Well, we will be running Year of the Shadow Lodge on Saturday, Dec 21st. Event Details, Directions and a link to the Warhorn sign up can be found on the events page on Facebook.

This weekend you say?
Why this weekend a bunch of the GMs will be playing Eyes of Ten at an undisclosed location (it's all so we can run the Seeker Arc for folks when they get a PC to 12th level ... really ... we're selfless like that ... OK, not selfless, but we really really really wanted to play this run of scenarios as a group). That said, folks who are close to 12th level will have a bunch of opportunities due to 6 GMs going through it locally.
As for the regular APL events at the Wyvern's Tale, and in anticipation of bunches of new PCs with new the new playtest classes, we've got the following (and you can sign up for these scenarios on Warhorn:
FRIDAY NOVEMBER 22
530pm-930pm
Murder on the Throaty Mermaid - a murder mystery season 2 scenario for PCs level 1-5.
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 23
1230pm-430pm
The Devil We Know Part 4 - Rules of the Swift - Michael finishes up the season 1 TDWK series. An adventure in Taldor (Cassomir to be specific ... what could be finer) for PCs level 1-7.
The Icebound Outpost - An Aspis kicking season 3 scenario for PCs level 1-5.
530pm-930pm
The Tide of Morning - Stop bad stuff from happening to druids in Andoran ... a season 0 scenario for PCs level 1-5 ...I may have to run Tide of Twilight soon as well...
The Disappeared - This is a problem solving and role-playing scenario, be forewarned. That said, it is also an EXCELLENT scenario. Infiltrate the Chelish embassy ... what better way to spend your evening. This season 4 scenario is for PCs level 1-5.
You Have What you Hold - River pirates ... 'nuff said. This season 5 scenario for PCs level 3-7 should be of particular interest for members of the Sczarni faction.
ALSO!!! This Saturday is the LAST DAY TO PLACE A T-SHIRT ORDER for the second anniversary t-shirt!
Sign up, play games, have fun!
I think I got it all ...
EDIT: Ninja'd by the Venture Captain while I typed this up <sigh>

Here's my take:
Arcanist - Spellcasting system is better than Sorcs or Wizards, but at the cost of all the specialization school and bloodline goodies. Probably good for newbies.
Bloodrager - Combines the raw power of a Barbarian, with the utility of an arcane caster ("I'M SO ANGRY! WAND OF MAGIC MISSILE FOR 3 DAMAGE!"). Could be a good way to wean my brother off of gish builds.
Brawler - Pretty niche. If you want an unarmed fighter, but didn't like the Monk, I guess you'll like this.
Hunter - Another niche class. If you wanted a Druid who focuses more on fighting alongside an animal companion than on spells, this is for you.
Investigator - The new Rogue. Lose the first sneak attack die, but gain extracts and "Inspiration," to boost your skills out of combat.
Shaman - Probably the most complicated of the classes. I haven't dug into it, but this probably has the most ability to tinker under the hood and get it to do whatever you want.
Skald - A more martial version of the Bard, but still with 3/4 BAB, so it's mostly just a different way of buffing with the song.
Slayer - Combination Rogue/Ranger, and pretty much what you'd expect. Good for advanced players who want their pure martial character to have more tricks up his sleeve.
Swashbuckler - A good class to use your Ifrit boons on (until you get dominated and kill your party)! If you wanted more tricks for your Dex-based fighter, or just liked everything about Gunslingers except the guns, this is for you.
Warpriest - Not much here that you couldn't do with a multi-class Fighter/Cleric, but with Weapon Focus, another bonus feat, blessings, and spells at first level, it's great for dipping!

Swashbuckler cheese will be incoming - luckily the play test is only until Dec. when they can hopefully fix it!
I'm torn on the Skald... I'd really like to like the class. Being able to make those around you rage sounds cool... except when you realize you're playing PFS and everyone at the table it a spell caster who wouldn't like to be angry and lose their spell casting ability!
Skald also feels like a class where you would have to be prepared with a set of 'buff-cards' to explain to all the other players what they're getting and how to quickly adjust their characters to the rage powers/etc they'd be gaining. At least with base bard it was a flat +hit/damage.
The bloodrager... now there's a combo that I think is better than the base barbarian class. You lose some rage powers... but Aberrant/Celestial and especially Arcane bloodlines are just OP and at very early levels.
Arcanist looks good on paper... but having to be prepared for your encounters with so few slots I think it works better in home games than in pfs.
Shaman has those nice crunchy bits without the really nasty witch curses. Definitely interesting but I think under powered compared to straight witch or oracle.
Slayer feels like a better fighter, ditto for investigator compared to rogue.... but not by much in either case
Warpriest/Hunter/Brawler are poorly thought out archetypes at the moment.. not better than straight cleric/druid/fighter respectively.

The Skald is just too similar to the Bard Archtype of the same name for me to give it much credit. Spell Kenning, while versatile, doesn't really blow my skirt up, and doesn't seem to mesh with the whole theme of rage and whatever. Changing saves while retaining the exact same weapon and armor proficiencies, HD, BAB progression, and getting fewer skills at the same time... What am I missing? Someone sell me on this.
Bloodrager is the next source of super-cheese. The number of Bloodrager 5-Dragon Disciple-7s we'll be seeing is going to be nauseating. And all of them Angel-Blooded Aasimar, I'm sure. "You see, my Gold-Dragon-Angel Father..." and I'll just stop listening.
Shaman is so unweildly that I'm going to need to study it at length before I can comment.
Slayer seems like a good boss-hunter, investigator WILL be the new rogue....
I don't know if, as a whole, this group of new classes is going to justify the book. It seems like an attempt to reduce multi-classing fatigue, which I can dig on. "I didn't want to multiclass Fighter and Cleric, so I made a Warpriest." or "I wanted a Ranger/Thief, so I made a slayer." But some of them are just not strong enough of a concept to justify their inclusion.

I can see where people might powergame the hell out of some of these classes the way you all are saying, but as someone who is far too lazy to research good ways to munchkin a character, I enjoy the fun ways these can be played
The arcane bloodrager I played was fun, even if there was very little he could do just yet, but I'm really excited about the shaman, who's only weakness is the lack of repeat uses of hexes (I think taking additional hex as a feat at least once will be necessary) will increase the need for a non-spellcasting or special abilities in combat.
Also, I'm surprised everyone is writing off the brawler. It's a monk who loses ki abilities to have you choice of feats as you need them. Build them with a bunch of base feats, then become a grappler, spring-attacker, tripper, disarmer, sunderer... whatever you need, on the fly. I could see a lot of power in that build. Besides, you get cool monk stuff without worrying about Wis during your stat allocation.
I'll be trying one out soon, and we'll see how it goes

Dear All My Gaming Brethren in Asheville,
I will be sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner tonite with my new but very rabid gaming family here in New Zealand to carve the Thanksgiving chicken (turkey is a ridiculous $7/kg), and as I sit and rest thankful with a bloated belly, I will be thinking of y'all.
And the fact that Mike Brock is coming to New Zealand in May!!! Woot Woot!
Nevertheless, I consider you all family. I miss each and every one of you. Yes, even you, SP.
Happy Thanksgiving. Ma'ahl'ahlo Zebunboondi. That's Maori for Happy Thanksgiving.
*smirk*
-Paul

See, that's just confusing ... you're in tomorrow, Paul. We don't get turkey until tomorrow, which is your yesterday. CONFUSION I TELL YOU!!! <rolls a Confusion Check: 1d100 ⇒ 48 ... babble babble babble> ;)
Miss you too, man, enjoy your ex-pat Thanksgiving and look forward to seeing you when you are back in town for a visit. :)

Hmmm ... I was expecting SP to pop in and ask what's going on this week ... Oh well ...
This week we've got games, oh yes we have games.
Friday, Dec 6
530pm - 930pm
Shades of Ice, Part 2: Exiles of Winter - A Season 2 Shadow Lodge arc for PC levels 1-5 set in Irrisen! Get some Shadow Lodge love before the Anniversary game on the 21st!
Quest for Perfection Part 1: The Edge of Heaven - A Season 3 scenario for levels 1-5 (this is part 1 of 3). Explore an Iroran monastery in Tian Xia, retrieve an artifact, fight a ... you thought you would get a spoiler, huh? No luck!
Saturday, Dec 7
1230pm - 430pm
The Disappeared - A Season 4 Roleplay/Investigative scenario for levels 1-5 ... think Mission: Impossible for PFS. Infiltrate a certain embassy and find the information the Society needs ... This one was a blast both to run and to play; don't miss it if you have not already experienced it.
The Confirmation - The new Season 5 Intro scenario! This tier 1-2 scenario can be applied one time to a level 2 PC, but can be played through as many times as you want with a level 1 PC. Forget those field commissions; this is your PC's graduation from the Society's training regimen. Will you actually survive to go on a real mission?
1230pm-930pm
The Dragon's Demand - Ever want to fight a dragon? Well ... there are kobolds. Those are kinda like dragons. The first module in Paizo's new, longer module format. This will be the first of the three sections for the sanctioned content of the module.
500pm-930pm
The Beggar's Pearl - Dwarvish ruins, and cults and first world danger, oh my! This season 1 scenario is for for levels 1-7.
Sewer Dragons of Absolom - This season 3 scenario for levels 3-7 is definitely on my personal top ten scenarios list both as a player and a GM. Set in Absolom ... well under it would be more accurate since they are sewer dragons ... this scenario is a blast to play, but it can be quite deadly, so be forewarned.
And there you have it. As usual, sign up for the games ON WARHORN. And DON'T FORGET: Our ANNIVERSARY GAME is SATURDAY DECEMBER 21ST ... it will be the ONLY game running that day with as many tables as we can muster.
I wonder where StrangePackage is ...

![]() |

One more thing for the Anniversary Game.
When you sign up, PLEASE LIST YOUR PC LEVEL! This will help us determine where we may have shortfalls for the tiers.
It currently looks like we will be running with 5 tables (though we do have additional GMs prepping the scenario if we need them), 1 for each tier level. We could use another level 10-11 PC for the upper tier slot (though we do have 2 folks who did not list their PC level, so it could be that we have the 4 folks minimum for that slot already).
You say you want to play in the Anniversary game? GREAT! You can sign up to play here!

Hey John! We do PFS at the WT on alternating Saturdays and pretty much every Friday. The next Saturday game is weekend after next (Dec 21st) and it is our 2nd Anniversary Game. We are running Year of the Shadow Lodge (I think we're up to 6 tables so far).
All sign up for tables is done via Warhorn (and we do ask folks to please please please sign up so we know what to expect for turnout ... it's also the best spot to see what scenarios are being run) ... walk-ins are always welcome though.
So, really, all you need to do is sign up on Warhorn, show up for the games and have fun. :)
As an FYI, if there is a scenario that you are wanting to play, feel free to post it and we will try to get a table together (except for special event days such as the Anniversary, of course).

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Sounds good, I'll be there on Friday (Dec 13th) and see what's what. I'm fairly familiar with 3.5 edition, but I haven't actually sat down with an RPG group in a while, so I'll be super-rusty, I'm sure.
I haven't rolled up a character yet since I wanted to see if there were any roles that needed filling in. If any of the established groups or GMs have any suggestions, I'm all ears.
Thanks for the quick reply and looking forward to seeing everyone on Friday!
JL

![]() |

No worries John. :) If you are familiar with 3.5, you're on pretty solid footing for the rule set. There are some variations though.
If you want to try your hand at PC creation before Friday, you can find the core rules here.
You will want to give the guide to organized play a quick look over as well (it gives character creation rules and lists rules variations for organized play).
Both of these are free resources.
As to what to create, play what you want to play. That's the best advice I can give on that front. Every table will have different needs, so it's hard to say in advance of the table mustering as to what would be needed.
And, worst case, there are pregen PC available you can use to just hop into a game.
OH! And do try to make it to the Dec 21st game if you can. It should be a blast. :)

Why nothing ... nothing at all ...
EXCEPT THE SECOND ANNIVERSARY GAME FOR THE ASHEVILLE PATHFINDER LODGE!!!!
Yep, on Saturday Dec 21st from 300pm-1000pm we will be running a single session of 6 tables of Year of the Shadow Lodge, the season 2 special for characters level 1-12+!
Oh yes, it will be synchronized mayhem and it will be GRAND! And I heard rumors of cake and an unrevealed surprise!!!
For the usual rundown, here's the details:
Friday Dec 20
530pm-930pm
Quest for Perfection, Part 1: The Edge of Heaven - This season 3 scenario for level 1-5 has the PCs in the distant land of Tian Xia in search of an Iroran artifact. This is the first of three scenarios.
Saturday Dec 21
300pm-1000pm
Year of the Shadow Lodge - The season 2 special! An artifact is brought to Absalom, the Society throws a party, the artifact goes missing, chaos and entertaining synchronized game play ensues! There are only a few seats left for the special (1 seat open for a level 3-4 PC and 2 seats for level 10-11 PCs).
As usual, all signup should go through the APL Warhorn site.

Hey guys, it's tall Adam here. It has been awhile since I've been around Wyverns Tale due to school, but I saw that this Friday was needing some gming for both slots. I know this is pretty short notice, and I am so out of the loop I wasn't sure who to contact directly, but I'd be willing to (ineptly) gm some low level games, like the goblinblood dead, or deleriums tangle. Hope you all are having fantastic holidays with your family & friends, and happy new year!
