What episode did you watch Kirth Gersen?
Whatever one came up first on Netflix. There was something about an evil moon goddess or something, and an annoying little unicorn-pony whose horn made magic farts while she levitated books, and some sort of other magical creature. Overall, to me, it was like watching Barney, except with fewer songs.

Eh, if he doesn't care for it, he doesn't care for it. As much as I enjoy the show (far more than I expected I would), I have to admit that the fans trying to convert the disinterested are more than likely to have the opposite effect. It's exactly why I've been forever turned off from certain other shows.

I wholeheartedly agree, but i always found the flavor of the first two eps to be diferent from the rest of the series...I thought it very much the same with the last two eps before EQG.

I'd suggest "It's About Time", if only for the Metal Gear Solid reference.

Mrs Gersen and I watched one episode on Netflix to see what the hype was about. We watched it quietly, and when it was over, I said, with a great deal of perlexity, "I don't get it."
Mrs Gersen put her hand on my arm and said, very seriously, "I'm glad you're not one of those Brony guys."Maybe it grows on you or something? Or what?
I couldn't really get into it either.

Jiggy wrote:Metal Gear SolidI have no idea what that is. Maybe that's my problem -- is the cartoon actually a series of "in-jokes," and I'm missing all of them? I'd feel really dumb at first, but would appreciate the joke being on me.
Actually, it's a series of video games that I've never played but that's popular enough that mention of a reference to it will get some people to try the show. ;)
No, the show isn't a series of in-jokes, but its makers are very aware of their fanbase and so they sometimes toss in things like references that only the parents/adults will get (how about The Big Lebowski, know that one?) or let future episodes/characters be somewhat influenced by popular opinion (such as Derpy Hooves rising from a nameless background pony to a minor named character due to being a fan-favorite).
The show's TVTropes page might explain the appeal better than I can.

I know there is episode that deals with the fact Scoot-a-loo can't fly.
There is episode were the main six plus spike become super heroes.
There is an episode were twilight encounters Luna turning into Nightmare Moon, more then likely as a flashback and/or time travel.
There is an episode were Pinky Pie joins the Apple family on some a trip and sings together.
November 23rd is the season 4 start date.

Hmmm.....I guess curiosity is going to finally get to this flea bitten soul of mine...
Now I will be honest I've been watching this show ever since about a month before Best Night Ever aired and I've been content to enjoy it quietly off in my own bubble of obliviousness but something has been making me wonder lately and I just re read this thread to see if it had been discussed in any detail and I didn't really see it.
Simply put ...why? Why do the people here like this show? What exactly is the draw?
I'll start with this, personally as a fan of animation in general I was originally drawn by the quality of the animation, the amount of care that the creative team puts into the show is impressive. But it strikes me as not the reason I kept watching , it seemed to me that this show has a bit of heart that you just don't see very often anymore. No biting satire, no real condescension to its audience, no idiocy humor to try and be "edgy" ,it is just what it appears to be. That is something that has been , in my unqualified opinion , missing in main stream animation in the past several years.
So how about you? Why are you watching this show?

It's cute. I find the writing entertaining. I like most of the characters.
I don't know. It wasn't something I would have actively sought out without seeing so many other people watching it - I never got into the prior generations of the franchise. It's just got something I can't put my finger on about it that makes me enjoy it and feel a little better about things once I've turned it on.

Is there a place online where one might read the comics? I saw a ten-page preview for one of them - the six ended up in some kind of maze-castle with doors leading into alternate worlds or something. But not familiar with any others.
You can get digital copies from Comixology and a couple of other vendors like them.
But if your looking to read them without having to buy them...well it is the internet so it's probably out there somewhere but I'd like to see these continue as long as they can so I recommend anyone interested actually buy them as they are well worth the 4 bucks.

- A return of Queen Chrysalis or King Sambra

- An episode with Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie as the focus.
- The mane six going to cities we have only heard of.
- The return of the flim flam brothers.
- Discord's origin.
- More about Starswirl the bearded.

But the RD Micro had a Blade Runner reference in it!
Eh, I don't think it was that bad to begin with, so the sweet reference pushed it into the good column for me.

To each their own I suppose.
Just something about that issue felt off to me, and the Twilight and Fluttershy issues come to think of it.
Not all bad per say but not quite good either. The stories in those three felt... awkward I guess. While the other micros and the main line has been pretty consistent in the Good to Excellent categories for me.

Ha! That's funny--the Twilight and Fluttershy micros have actually been my favorites so far (at least in the micro line) :D

I'll go ahead and second these as well. Not Dragon's whole list, but I would be happy to see some of these come up.

Anyone else keeping up on the comic series?
In the latest story arc, Shining Armor and his school chums play Dungeons and Dragons--er, make that Oubliettes and Ogres.
Yes indeed. That pair of issues were quite well done. They gave some much needed characterization to both Shining and Cadence. I particularly liked the sibling dynamic that was fleshed out for Shining and Twilight.

I've bought the second one (the cover with Shining holding the gaming books, of course!), but have yet to read it! Loved the series thus far. :3
I love 8-Bit, and find that Poindexter's character is a LE bard amusing.Ha! That's funny--the Twilight and Fluttershy micros have actually been my favorites so far (at least in the micro line) :D
While Flutters is a favorite of mine, I kinda liked Rarity's - a bit more pacing and more meat to the story, IMO.
