Horseshoes of Speed to fit another animal type

I completed a PFS scenario that awarded Horseshoes of Speed as well as other things. However, my halfling character rides a wolf, not a horse.

Can this magical item be 'reskinned' to fit a canine?

It just did not seem right that only horses gets access to this kind of item but other legal mounts do not.

Thank you.

No you can not re-skin Magic items into something it is not.

Can I re-skin or re-flavor an animal companion or item?

You may choose a specific type of animal companion from any of the base forms listed on pages 53–54 of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook or a legal Additional Resource but may not use stats for one base form with the flavor of another type of animal. Thus, a small cat could be a cheetah or leopard, as suggested, as well as a lynx, bobcat, puma, or other similar animal; it could not, however, be "re-skinned" to be a giant hairless swamp rat or a differently-statted wolf. If a GM feels that a re-skinning is inappropriate or could have mechanical implications in the specific adventure being played, he may require that the creature simply be considered its generic base form for the duration of the adventure.

A player may not re-skin items to be something for which there are no specific rules, and any item a character uses for which there are no stats is considered an improvised weapon (see page 144 of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook).

Also, I don't think the horseshoes are restricted to Horses only, It seems to be restricted to animals with Hooves, which a Wolf does not have.

You can have horseshoes for your medium sized mount when my large sized mount can be ridden in a dungeon.

Oh wait, wrong thread! :D

Your wolf would be barely able to move at all after you nail the horseshoes to his feet. Plus I doubt he would let you ride him anymore.

Lantern Lodge

well this isn't that other game where x item goes into x slot. So even if you find a GM that lets you re-skin, there will be others (a lot of them) who will view this very dimly. So save your gold, and try to stick as closely to RAW as possible.

You may want to take this to the Rules boards.
I know it has been discussed there before - if you have a lot of free time, do a search on "pouncing kitty" :)

As it stands, many GMs (including me) would say something without hooves cannot wear magic horseshoes, unless a ruling/FAQ is made contradicting that.

Thank you all for the responses (and for the FAQ Dragnmoon). It was what I expected, but I could not find any official answer so I wanted to ask.
I'll not worry about it then. But I am somewhat disappointed that these specific animal magic items were not designed to be more generic for a variety of legal mounts.
