Very cool, so far. I didn't get to play very much last night but here are my initial impressions:
1. Seamless transition/extension of Arkham Asylum controls/interface. Almost 0 learning curve.
2. Dynamic combat preserved.
3. Interesting sleuthing preserved.
4. Catwoman - excellent addition to the game.
5. Scope - Arkham City feels massive. Also the mix of architecture - gothic, industrial, etc. simultaneously makes it more immersive and more difficult than navigating Akham Asylum (as it should be). Excellent use of radio broadcasts, side conversations, & side quests.
6. Difficulty is higher, at least initially. While gameplay is relatively unchanged, the sheer scope adds to the complexity. It's also much easier to encounter side quests which force interesting choices in terms of what you want to pursue. Also, the Riddler has stepped up his game. The Riddler challenges are more elaborate and difficult.
Can't wait for the Nightwing and Robin DLC to come out in November. So far, this one looks like it will live up to the original and exceed it.

You know it's frustrating. I really liked Arkham Asylum (excluding the combat challenge maps), but I never forgave Rocksteady and Warner Interactive for requiring Windows Live just to f+%+ing save. And now that unholy, abominable, hate-filled software is back for another round and the PC version is delayed yet again. They've really screwed themselves since Saint's Row: The Third releases before the PC port.
No more of my cash Rocksteady. Enough is enough. I'll grab the soundtrack, watch a playthrough online, and forget I ever considered wasting my money.

That's why you get a console. ;)

I have a console. A DS and that is all the console I'll ever need. XB3s and PS3s are just chunks of tech with desktop-envy.

I have to laugh at that statement. :) I'm a PC Gamer first and foremost.
Aside from that I love my PS3 console for the games and blu-ray. There are times I just want to kick back on the couch or bed and relax with a console game with a cordless gamepad on a big-arse screen. It has nothing to do with "desktop-envy".
There are some games for me that will always be "console only" purchases, despite my Uber-Rage Running PC's capabilities. Games like Batman: Arkham Whatever, Dead Space, and Resident Evil fall under this category. The shooters however, like Fallout, Bioshock, Rage, etc belong on the PC for mouse/keyboard ease of control. Some RTS games as well, I cant imagine wanting to play Red Alert 3 on a console over a PC.
I do agree with your ranty take of GFW Live though. Im not a fan of third party front ends like GFW and Steam (although steam is the lesser of two evils). I'd rather just install and go without having the other crap run in the background.
If your DS is making you happy on the console front, go you! I still consider it just a handheld system and not really a console. I'll change that opinion when they can play games with console like graphics. That's when they will truly be a "portable" console.

You know you can do that with a PC, right? You only need to buy a cable and a gamepad, and if you already own a PC, it will be cheaper than buying a console.
Just saying. The only reason I see for buying a console nowadays is for exclusive titles. That is why I own a Wii, cause I need my Zelda and Metroid.

Pretty much this.
The game easily has one of the best intro scenes in recent memory--and considering how good the opening to Arkham Asylum was, that's definitely saying something.

Late Edit****** just checked, Robin is Nov 22nd.
You didn't get the preorder where you get to play as him? Unfortunate! I really want to play as Robin.

I preordered at Gamestop, I got to play as Catwoman. I think Robin was a best buy deal.
The upcoming DLCs are all challenge maps and skins, not so impressed. I would have preferred campaign missions for Robin/Nightwing.
as would I! I hope they are given more of a role in the sequel. Is it true the creeper is in the game?

Sunderstone |

Never saw the Creeper (never heard he was in there too). I also didn't run into Black Mask and I know he's in there somewhere. Deadshot was a cool takedown , he sounded like his voice was done by Nolan North (Drake from Uncharted), I have to look that up when I get a chance.
Nm. Some guy named Chris Cox did Deadshot, Nolan North was Penguin (didn't even sound like him).

I haven't finished the game yet. However, you do see Jack Ryder in the game and I believe he's the Creeper's alter ego. He also made a radio voice appearance (again as Ryder) in Arkham Asylum.

Ah, didn't know Jack Ryder was the Creeper. About Ryder/Creeper:

Just recently started. For a guy that I haven't actually seen yet, Zsasz has certainly caused some really memorable moments. Dashing across rooftops, gliding past armed thugs, ziplining accidentally into a nest of heavily armed TYGER guards, having to flip over and weave through a bunch of clown-themed goons just to grab that ringing phone on the other side of the street...
Absolutely love all the open cases going on at the same time throughout the city.
Did anyone else ID
Hugo Strange's voice actor does a pretty damn good Christopher Lee-ish voice, which is awesome even if they weren't able to get the real deal like they originally hoped.

He's also the guy in the helicopter in Asylum, though you still don't actually see him. Haven't checked, but I wonder if it's the same voice actor between the two games.
Dude looks like Steven Colbert in City...

Heads-up!
If you find a certain something in the Steel Mill before finishing the main storyline, you'll get an extra song during the credits.

This game really does need a way to revisit boss fights.
That and some of the moments in the Demon Trials battle... All of those counter-attack alerts coming from those ninjas blotting out the sun...
