Does anyone know of something I could use as a virtual battle map for the iPad? The key features I need are:
Import PDF backgrounds. I want to use this with the PDF versions of Paizo flip-mats, so I need to be able to import PDFs, not just build from tiles.
Use tokens. I need to be able to move tokens around to represent the characters. It would be better if I could import my own, but it's not essential.
Fog of war. It would be great if it had a "scratch away" fog of war, but again, I can make do without it.
Local use only. I'm just using this on my table in real life with all the players sitting around, so I don't need any online versions, or anything like that.
So, anybody know anything? This would be for an un-Jailbroken iPad 2.
Thanks.

I tried it, but I couldn't get it to work properly, so I bit the bullet and bought the EXPENSIVE Battle Map app. At $30, it's pretty expensive for an app, but it let's you make maps with drag and drop symbols, and supports custom tokens and backgrounds, so I have been using the PDFs of the FlipMaps. So far I'm pretty happy, but I haven't had a chance to actually try a game with it yet.

Just like it says on the tin: Battle Map

Sort of. This is what I'm playing with. See, it lets you import your own "backgrounds", which can be a map, and then it fortunately (since Pazio didn't put the grid on a removable layer... grr) it let's you rescale the background, so you can make the grid on the background match the built-in grid.
The problem, though, is that while you can add "fog-of-war" to it, it doesn't recognize any walls, doors, or other obstructions on the "background". So if you want to reveal a dungeon room by room to your players, you have to make it all "dark" then create an "un-fog-of-war" token with a light source radius of one, and then "move" that token around to manually erase the fog as the characters progress.
The problem with THAT, is that areas the players' have explored, but can't currently "see" are revealed, but faded. Since the only true visibility in this method is your "fog-of-war" token, it means the map can get revealed, but never "un-faded".
It's a little thing, and obviously it all works perfectly when you build your won maps, or use one where you can see everything. What I'm trying to do is add my own walls to a pre-made background, but that's a little time-consuming and I haven't got around to it yet.

I'd agree that BattleMap is not really worth it at this point. It's a nice attempt, decent interface, but just isn't up to whats needed. I shelled out the 30 dollars hoping the developer would stick with it and keep improving it as a replacement for Dundjinni.
That seems to be the problem in general with iOS gaming Apps.
After diddling around with the HTLM5/JavaScript abilities of GoodReader my curiosity is piqued if a 'simple' HTML5 app could be made to do this fog of war overlay. Done right it could also port over to other devices.

Thread NECROMANCY!
Anything new on this front? To recap, I'm looking for something for LOCAL games, to display PDFs of battle mats, but able to black out unexplored sections, and "scratch away" the black parts, revealing the map as players explore. Any ideas?
Are your gaming sessions held in locations that have wireless internet access? If so, my best recommendation is to use a remote desktop app like splashtop to tunnel in and run maptools on your desktop/laptop.
I use my ipad this way now and then to run one-on-one sessions for my girlfriend, and it's worked pretty well so far.

Not any wireless where I game like the local game store or the local sf/gaming convention.
Don't have it at my apartment, but then I would use my ISP connection as I have a nice WIndows Vista desktop, 3 gigs of ram.
Since this is a big purchase, I'll likely keep looking. One of the computer techs at work suggested I wait until October, as that is when the new gear comes out for the holiday sales.
