The Exchange 1/5

Time is drawing near for NEONCON 2011. To help ease the pain of the down economy, we've dropped our ticket price from $60 to $50 for the 2011 show. If you GM 4 scenarios/slots for us, you get your badge for free.

Here are a few links to important information about Pathfinder Society events at the show:

Thanks,

Doug Daulton
NEONCON 2011

PS: If you are interested in playing the "Eyes of the Ten" retirement arc at the show click here. Given the scope of the arc, we are only planning to one group through the entire thing. But, if there is enough interest and folks are willing to help judge other events, we'll consider adding another group/table.

Doug - The EotT does not show up as an option for registering, can we assume that the last list that Painlord posted is good? Or do I need to do something else?

If I purchase my badge this week, probably Thursday, when and where will I receive it? Do I receive my badge at NeonCon or will it be mailed to me.

When you purchase a membership to NeonCon, you will receive a form from the vendor to print and bring to NeonCon to exchange for the actual badge.

You will also have a link in your email to get back to the page where you can print the confirmation, in case it got lost.

Liberty's Edge 1/5

Are there any special event scenarios that involve multiple tables? Played one last year at NeonCon and it was great fun. Hoping we can play another one this year.

Liberty's Edge 1/5

This years interactive is "Blood Under Absolom" during the Saturday evening slot.

Liberty's Edge 1/5

great! thanks!

The Exchange 5/5

Like last year, I'll be Overseer GM for the event...

You guys are good. I have not had a chance to add it to the schedule yet.

I'll be happy to have JP as Overlord for Blood Under Absalom.

I'm sure all y'all are aware of how long the scenario is. We ran it at Celesticon and, even with some needed cuts, it took well over 6 hours. I would suggest 2 slots for it to be run in full, but more cuts might be necessary for a 8pm to 1am time slot.

However, I think we can discuss that at the event. Or offline.

Registered to attend as player & GM. Playing Thurs - Fri, running Sat - Sun. Though I don't see where I can print the player schedule. Also, how would you like me to sign up for the games I'll run on Sat - Sun ?

Edit: got the player schedule figured out. Pretty cool you can click on the scenario link and see who's signed up. I just did a copy/paste to a Pages doc. Though it has me signed up for two games in the same slot. How do I correct that? I changed my mind on the tier for that slot.

That is a "feature" (bug). Working to allow people to unregister for events. Hope to have it sorted early next week. Will post update. Until then, don't sweat it.

Ok. What about GM slots? How do register for those?

Working on that as well. Right now, I have to assign you.

Also, on Saturday, during the 2-7 PM slot, Shadow's Last Stand is listed as being offered at sub-tier 10-11. This particular scenario is a level 1-7 scenario.

Thanks,
Will from Fresno

Thanks Will, we will get that fixed.

So I was looking at the schedule for NeonCon this morning...

Whose idea was it to only run one Subtier of a given scenario per slot? Is there a reason why the con is not offering each Subtier of a given scenario in the same slot?

Also, is Subtier 10-11 for Blood Under Absalom going to be opened up?

This is open for discussion. What would you suggest? Will also have a look at the 10-11 for the special.

I would suggest that, if Neoncon is going to offer a given scenario in a given slot, to offer at least one table of each Subtier. Offering only specific Subtiers not only overcomplicates scheduling, but there are other problems introduced:

-Overly restrictive scheduling for those who cannot make all the slots. If I have, say, a 3rd level PC, and a given module is being offered in a given slot, but at 6-7, and the 3-4 instance of that module is being offered during a slot I can't make, I'm out of luck. Unless I play out of Subtier... but then...

-The prisoner's dilemma of playing out of Subtier. The schedule is not checking the actual levels of the player's PCs. So, let's say I have a 3rd-level PC. I'm willing to play up, so I sign up for 6-7 (which may be the only instance of the module I can make anyways, due to the scheduling problem above). Now, let's say the slot starts, and four other people sit down with me, and we all have 3rd-to-4th-level PCs. What happens? We can't play 6-7, obviously. Does the table go off? Does it play at 3-4? If so, why did we pre-set the Subtiers again?

-Of course, this dilemma could be resolved by requiring that one has a PC within a given Subtier upon signup. But then, Neoncon would be restricting registration to an extreme degree.

-And then there's the, well, lack of reason to split up the Subtiers across the convention's schedule. Why do this in the first place? Why not just offer all Subtiers of a given module in each slot the module is offered in? Why make scheduling more complicated than it needs to be?

When I attended last year, both the GMs and the judges were very elastic on changing tiers, playing up, etc. to make sure that whoever showed up for a slot with whatever level character they had was able to play at a table and have a good time. I wouldn't worry about a sub-tier not being shown for a particular scenario on the NeonCon schedule, they do anything they can to accommodate all players.
