Yeah so far all I have is Gabriel
High concept Winter Knight
Trouble Prove yourself: always is thrown into situations by the winter court because he has to prove himself to not just be replaced (ie killed) and Mab go back and bugging Harry Dresden, Prove yourself so we dont replace yourself, Well Harry Dresden could do this why can't you?
And so far one aspect
Replaceable unless Proven: Given powers by Mab gabriel constantly is stubborn to prove himself as his neck is on the line if he doesnt but he is often put into situations where he has no control over anything because he is sent by the Court.
How am I doin? says talk to gm so here I am lol

Raventhorn |

EDIT: for above post I now have renamed the aspect, Stand In Till Not Needed sounds better lol, and Mab's boon
DSX ok reading up on fey magic seems fun lol but question whats with the focus items says I get four since I have no other help to make magic easier for me ex says if you have evocation you get only 3 focus items please explain?
why i ask is cause while focus items would be nice kinda hesitant on if gabriel would have them since his whole role is a stand in lol Mab giving him the sword is stretching it pretty far already lol least in my opinion your thoughts?

DSXMachina |

Well, i'll have to check up on the numbers but with the focus items magic work mostly on belief. If you believe you can only perform a magic ritual with a focus BAM it becomes true. The items don't have to be magic or even unique. (you might even need mundane foci like an ice cube or limb of a blasted oak). So it could be that when Mab bestowed/ sponsored your magic she gave you the items (or told you that you need these items) as a safeguard and way of monitoring how you use them rather than giving away items of power. The main thing with the foci is that they give a small bonus and that they can be lost/taken/broken to make a more interesting story.
Aria, it's alright what i will probably do is have as players
-Raventhorn - Winter Knight
-Ryuko - Wizard
-Valegrim - Axemius
- GM Aria - Fey something
& maybe 1-2 other players
Anyway, i have had an interesting night. I GM a game at a RPG club & 4 more Americans turned up from the base looking to play. Which is great provided we have enough GM's. Then my game went super fast, which is good 'cos i think the pc's were getting a bit annoyed at the pace :(

GM Aria |

OOOh, goodie! Reading is going sorta slow, but I'm reading from the beginning. Just printed out a character sheet and am going to try to make... something just to familiarize myself with the process so I don't feel like the slow kid at the table again.
I started playing 3.5 with my friends in college, and they had all played AD&D so I've extensive experience being the slow kid at the table. And I am pretty sure we all remember how difficult 3.5 was with the upwards of 80 skills and the rogues with 10 skill points per level, which barely covered search, spot, listen, move silently, hide, tumble, balance, use rope, disable device, pick lock. Why I played rogues, I have NOOO idea. *laughs*
Glad to hear your game went well.

DSXMachina |

Meh, the game was passable (hopefully i am just being hard on myself).
But don't worry that you'll make mistakes (I know i will ;P). The game is pretty straight-forward once you get the hang of it [i'll try to answer any questions though i am a noob too]. Of course, you played rogues 'cos they are cool.

One of the ideas I had was playing a vanilla mortal with a concept akin to a hunter from Supernatural. Focus on guns and lore. Hunting down evil beasties and fillin' em with holes.
Another character I had was a shapeshifter that transformed into a polar bear. I'd take hulking size, claws, maybe supernatural strength and some other stuff.
Yet another character I had an idea for was an emissary of power for either a djinni or a dragon.
Overall a lot of great rp ideas, at least in my opinion. And very functional for any sort of power level we'd like to play.
I will caution you that wizards/sorcerers are really powerful. In the RL game I'm in, which I'll actually be playing on Saturday, another play and I each have full wizards and we tend to kick the teeth in on most things pretty quickly.

Ryuko |

Wizards are indeed powerful, but to balance this wizards (and other high refresh characters) have very few fate points, and in a heavily average weighted game like this that guaranteed +2 can be a huge bonus. Humans and other such ilk can throw down fate points easily, and really only need give in to compels for a few extras. High power characters on the other hand MUST give in to thier natures over and over, in order to have those fate points when they are really needed.
That said, I'm going Focused Practitioner and not Wizard, just to clarify.

Ragathiel |

Hey this is Raventhorn's bro. I am pretty interested in this game but I don't know how to play, even more of a noob than my bro lolz, but if ur willing to take me on and teach me the basics i am interested.
So far, the three things i'd most like to be are an Ogre-blooded changeling, an emissary of power of a Dragon, or a Foo Dog :P the dog option is entirely up to you, but Mouse is my favorite character in the Dresden files, so i just thought i'd ask. anyways :) rly interested, just a serious noob. willing to learn tho

Ryuko |

Well, one of my personal favorite parts of this system is the simple fact that it is very, very simple. It's meant to be extremely free-form and story based, with very little emphasis placed on crunch rules.
Personally, I've decided on being a Ferromancer, though I'm still working on story... I tend to like playing cop types but I'm trying to break out of that with something more outlawish.

DSXMachina |

Alright, we have a full compliment of players.
-Ryuko - Ferromancer
-Raventhorn - Winter Knight
-Ragadolf - Danny Kaye 'Struggling Fae Spellslinger'
-Valegrim - Aximeus 'Wandering Demigod'
-Ragathiel - Ogre/EoP Dragon/Foo Dog
-Aria - Fae?
-Madclaw - hunter/polar bear/EoP dragon or djinn
Aspects, well they are short phrases that describes your character, like a heading or brief synopsis.
You have a basic description - High Concept
What your character would die for - Trouble
The 3 background aspects to illustrate what your PC has done.
Mechanically these can be invoked by the GM to get you into trouble or by the player to give a +2 to a dice roll (which is a lot).

GM Aria |

Aye. I got to the chapter on character creation just before bed. Figured I should try to get five hours of continuous sleep, and managed over that for once this week.
Will start reading more soon, and probably have a concept by the end of the day.
Assuming it won't change when I understand what everyone else is playing. Hehe.

Danny Kaye |

He's Baaaaaack! :)
"Hello to all you guysngalsnthingsthatgobumpinthenight! This is Danny Kaye, your host with the most, here to spin tunes during the midnight hour, while the living sleep and the dead dance!"
I was thinking maybe he had to find a job as a DJ after he moved? ;P
Meh. It was a thought. I never said it was a good one. ;)
Thanks for the invite DSXM. I appreciate it. Since we're already wiz-heavy (and as was so politely pointed out to me in the last game, I've already created more wiz characters than JK Rowling!) I'll stick with the spellsinger.
Once we settle on a city and such, I will be happy to update Danny's aspects to reflect the change. And writing yourself into others stories is always fun! :)
As far as cities go, I like the idea of York or similar, though I've never been near there. I might also suggest New Orleans. Not only am I intimately familiar with there, (having lived there almost 14 years before Katrina) but there is so little work to do to 'Dresden-fy' it. It practically screams supernatural already. :) Just a thought.
That said, I'm good with whatever we decide. This should be fun! :)

GM Aria |

Hmm. Typically I like playing support roles, like smart sorcs who neutralize threats with save or sucks versus blasting, bards, and clerics.
Was thinking something to do with the Summer Court fae, but the Knight template has already been called. As Danny has said, we have plenty of spellcasters, and I play heavily towards that in my PbPs here.
In the first read through the templates that really caught my eye was Changeling and White Court Virgin for their inherent conflicts between mortality and becoming a monster. But I think for once I might want to play a selfish prick of a monster instead of skirting around this sort of dilemma, so I will read again.
Or perhaps someone more knowledgeable can offer an opinion?

Ryuko |

Personally I've always considered playing a Slyph Changeling. Slyph's in the Dresdenverse are slim, beautiful women with razor sharp dragonfly wings and nasty teeth. They eat meat.... just about any meat really.
Other fun Changeling options could be a Goblin, a Bovinsidhe (claw based Vampire who kidnaps men for sexy vampire time.), or a hob (Thick little creatures with control over darkness.)

Ragathiel |

Pretty much a Foo Dog, or Temple Dog, Aria, is a REALLY big dog that can fight creatures from the Never-Never as well as Vampires and the order of the Blackened Denarius. their bite is like a knight of the cross' holy fire :) also theyre really really big, fuzzy and adorable!
^^ and whoever is my master gets to name me!

GM Aria |

Hmm...Emissary of Power or Changeling of the Wild Hunt?
I don't know if going Summer court fey is going to clash too much with Raventhorn's Winter Knight, and having a Foo Dog seems pretty fun to me. Hehe.
Wild Hunt sounds pretty cool, actually. If we're supposed to be fighting Red Court Vampires, it should fit without being too much of a problem.

Raventhorn |

hmm if your winter court could be Gabriel walks around after you, since your the emissary of power or changeling and high up enough in the court which btw you should know the name Maeve shes the winter queens (Mab) daughter or princess and she has lots of handmaidens who ipso facto very powerful just gives our characters a way of knowing people which says is required in the character creation

GM Aria |

Yeah, I looked up Maeve and figured she might do since she's the cheap slut of the winter court, and since she is that powerful, having a half breed daughter would be rather inconvenient, which is why my character would probably identify more with the wild hunt.
Really, though, I don't want to make Merrideth Gentry from the horribad fae novels by the lady who writes the Anita Blake series. That is my fear... Which was why I backed away from the Maeve and seductive angle and focused on the straight kicking ass angle.

GM Aria |

Okie. So far I have
Template: Changeling
High Concept: Maeve's Boudoir(subject to being rewritten, essentially she's a dirty little secret of the Winter Court)
Trouble: Mother is the Word for God on the lips of All Children
Need to understand the main players of the Winter Court a little better to supply the rest, I believe, but for now...
Phase One: All Hail Queen Mab
Phase Two: Outside Looking In
Phase Three: The Wyld Hunt

DSXMachina |

OK, personally regarding the Foo Dog i do like the idea but being able to commmunicate your ideas is a must thus maybe you can communicate with specific individuals. Although with as large a party it does depend how central you wish to be (thus how much you 'push' the story) saying that in any pbp most parties should not be slowing down play.
RE: How 'mature/adult' you want this game to be i am happy running to your comfort level although of course i will not openly/forceably push too far.
Yep, i do like the early Anita Blake series & the Merideth Gentry series, but the later books became too..... which is a pity as she is a really entertaining writer.
Hope this is coherent enough, had a fun day

GM Aria |

The later books became too "I take six men in me at a time and if I go a single hour without bending to one, I get upset that I am not being catered to."
Men acting like women in those books, which is why I will never play a male character. I don't pretend to know what ya'll are thinking half the time, so I am polite and ask.
Ah, one thing I absolutely abhor is the subject of the four letter R-word that means aggravated assault. I hate seeing it in backstories as something to "progress" from, I just freaking hate it. It's a traumatic event that ruins lives, not something I like seeing in characters that I have to interact with. Just a pet peeve of mine.

DSXMachina |

Exactly i have to agree Aria. That sort of thing can annoy me as well.
I think i read the first 11(!) books in the Anita Blake series and it got too much. I did flick through a random page on a new book, on the third attempt i found it well written & interesting (it was just a pity attempt 1&2 were about 't***** ***s')

Ragathiel |

Thanks GM DSX :) the idea is good but the Foo Dog being unable to talk seems to me to be the perfect trouble. it would literally be labeled as "What is it boy? Woof!" lolz since he can't talk he can't communicate well but as I've seen with Mouse, he doesn't need to speak to get certain messages across to Dresden, also he's a kick@$$ character. i mean to me its "he's a huge fricking dog that can fight monsters. he is Dogasaurus Rex!" lolz
If you would prefer however I did have that Ogre-blooded changeling idea. I know i would get a lot of jokes but I'd be going w the name Malcolm ^^" the idea of balancing your entire nature on a knife's edge of fey and human sounds so cool. its up to you depending on which you'd rather have in the group :)

GM Aria |

Yeaaah, the condition I call "bored housewife schlick." All seemingly strong female characters get hyper sexualized and end up becoming slaves to phallus.
Don't get me wrong, that can be fun, too. Just... something about the AB series was always off. Whenever someone wanted to threaten Anita, it couldn't be by size alone, since she was a delicate little snow flake, there had to be the threat of the four-letter "R-word."
Anyway. Back to studying and probably choosing powers and skills so I have a point of reference for this backstory.

Ryuko |

I've never read Anita Blake (Though I've heard terrible things, especially about the latter part of the series.) but my ex was very into the Merry Gentry books and.... yeah.... just... terribad. I literally had trouble caring in the slightest about any character, especially the using slut of a main girl. My Ex claimed I wasn't getting into the 'Fey' mindset, but I called it 'not being an a*%~%&~'. I think James has a very Fey outlook, but manages to be a good enough guy nonetheless. Or for a more universal example, Thomas from Dresden Files makes a good go of it.
I'm really stuck in a cop/investigator rut... anyone got any thoughts on a Ferromancer? I know one thing is that he will be very anti-establishment. Generally believing that every magical group is trying to control humans, including seemingly benevolent groups like the White Council.
