Vorel's Phage in Pathfinder rules

Rise of the Runelords

Hi almighty oracles of the boards,

I'm currently running Skinsaw Murders using the Pathfinder rules and I'm not too sure how to handle Vorel's Phage.

-There's no mention of how many successful saves it take to cure it. All diseases in the core rulebook require at least 2 saves so I was guessing I'd have require a minimum of 2 saves to cure it. What did you guys do?

-I'm confused about the save DC. The DC is different for every source you can get the disease (the rats, the haunts, the fungus). To top it off, the description of the disease shows a DC of 20. Is the DC to catch the disease the same to cure the disease or are they different (hence the DC 20 in the description of the disease)

Thanks

I'm no expert on diseases, but I'd suggest that the Vorel's Phage should be more tenacious that most diseases. Three consecutive saves would be my suggestion, but don't underestimate that; beating a DC three time in a row can take a looooooooong time - and the character can during that time infect others, I believe. If it threatens to bring down your group, you can decide that once they leave the Misgiving the DC for saving throws starts to drop, so that they'll recover more easily.
I'd also suggest lowering the save DC once the players clean up the house - and don't forget to give them a way to clean the house without a 3,5 cleric!!

As for DC, I would handle it a different sub-types of the same disease. Or perhaps different purity. I'd suggest that the DC of the low DC diseases increases by 1 for every failed safe after incubation (until reaching the higher DC), but I am probably one of the harsher DMs here.

For what it's worth, in 3.5 (which the adventure was built for), diseases took two consecutive saves to stave off, unless it was a magical disease like Mummy Rot (which couldn't be cured except by a magical spell or class ability).
