Disfunctia: Ruled by King Ganit "The Grumpy" I (Cha -1), where the High Diplomat Lukan (Int +0) oversees international relations, Sir Bronwyn the Marshal (Dex +1) keeps the safety of the borders, while the Warden Carina Stigard (Str +0) protects the community. Cambyl the Spymaster (Dex +0) gathers information, while Councilor Jameson Addercop (Cha +0) ensures the will of the people.
Sounds like a good place to live.

Just wanted to let everyone know I'm having tons of fun in this game. Be it bantering with the group or getting eaten by random monsters (and/or NPCs), this thread is the first page I check after my e-mail and the last before I get to bed (even though I also play in other games). I know our schedules are very different, and because of that our posting is sporadic, but I'll do my best to keep conversations going. Just wanted to thank you guys (and Aron the DM) for making those awesome characters, it's been fun trading words with you guys.

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

I couldn't agree more with you Bronwyn. Our schedules can be a bit messy but it always brightens my eyes to see the newsfeed flash unread messages for this thread. Role playing has been by far my favorite part of this whole game. The PC's everybody put together are a really great and diverse bunch. Ganit is a mean spirited d*ck, but I enjoy playing him so I thank everyone for putting up with him. And I.
Now let's get 'em scouts!

Lukan Swane "Swaney" |

Don't take my silence as not being interested ;) I'm waiting in ambush.
Uhmm... Do you have to be smart to be a diplomat? I thought that was more charisma based, and if that's the case then we will be at perpetual war (8 CHA)! Hehe it reminds me of the Fifth Element... "We are sending someone in to negotiate!" Bruce Willis walks in and shoots the Mangolor leader in the head... Ah great movie. Maybe Ganit should be the diplomat =P

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

Lol. Such a great movie. I remember I was ~13 when that came out on VHS. I must have watched it 1/week for like 3 months. Why don't I own that?

Hah! Same here. Ya know when it comes on TV you just HAVE to watch it. I think it was re-released on Blu-ray not too long ago. You must now go out and purchase it ;)

Sadly I didn't get to shift her alignment. Too bad, Kressel, I would've rocked your world.
Side note: I actually pity her a bit. She's got the whole victim of the environment going on.
Typical bandit sadly. I like to try and let players know about the background as some of them are VERY interesting, like Kressel's. In Alex's she was in combat, the party defeated the bandits all except her who held a handaxe to one of the party's necks as the wizard was down prone I believe. She wanted to be set free and the party ended up befriending her and a sister of hers that he added too and now they're living in the kingdom in hopes of a new life if I remember correctly.
She hunted down her rapists and dispatched them which I find funny.

DM Aron Marczylo |

Anyway really sorry, been busy attempting to balance between playing The Witcher (which is REALLY damn awesome) and replying, which has been difficult as I was on the last chapter of the game and finally completed the entire thing, however there have been things I've missed so I'm hoping to play it again, but replays are generally more boring to me because I know what's going on so will be replying more often. Not to mention I have no room on my desk so my back ends up curling when looking online.
Eitherway, back to replaying HL2 (for some reason when I last played it the achievements didn't work and not to mention it's a damn fun game) which again makes me ask the question MANY steam users are asking...
WHERE THE HELL IS HALF-LIFE 2: EPISODE 3?!?!?!?!
/rage
name on steam is: overfiend_87 and now that I have a gaming PC from Alex then I can play highspec games now, which explains the above. Heh, boys and their toys as women say.

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

I wish I had a gaming computer. Star Wars: The Old Republic is taunting my no MMO's policy. I understand server maintenance and upkeep and blah blah blah, but I personally can't justify having to pay for a game more than once. It's a mixed blessing that I'm 80% sure my computer would explode if I installed it.

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

I read that that game was the cause for over 55% of bar fights in adults between the ages of 21 and 28.
No I didn't...

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

FYI, I'll be attending a wedding tomorrow so I won't be able to post between ~18:00GMT - 3:00GMT. I know weekend posting typically slow anyway but I figured I'd give everyone a heads up.
Ganit has a pretty nice readied attack lined up and if it comes to combat he'll probably stick to shooting the folks on horses and avoiding Bronwyn's pissed off girlfriend. With that in mind DM Aron, feel free to NPC him tomorrow if needed.

I've all but quit video games now, but there is one I've been following for awhile: Guild Wars 2. I can't believe they aren't charging a monthly subscription from what I have seen so far.
I thought Half Life 2 was horrible compared to the first. As for the witcher, I played that awhile ago and got caught up trying to be a completionist and ruined the game for myself.
My top 5 PC Games of All Time:
1. Fallout
2. Fallout 2
3. Starcraft
4. Asheron's Call (Don't ask =P)
5. Half Life
PS: Fallout 3 was crapola on a stick. New Vegas was slightly better.

DM Aron Marczylo |

Oh hell yeah the origonal fallout games were great.
With 2 I do feel like I missed a game between half-life and all it's children (opposing force, blue shift) as all of a sudden those things with the eyes are friends.

Kressle is married to Casimir, one of the original PC's and the kingdoms Spymaster. Her sister Karina made repeated moves on the Baron which he always turned down. She may or may not be in an unhealthy work relationship with Jhod, and she has been implicated in serious crimes against the kingdom, but the other rulers believe she was under magical compulsion...
Edit: Oh, Casimir is the one taken hostage by her with a handaxe to his throat... twice...

Ahh you see, it was love at first sight, clearly. Makes me think if they developed that syndrome where you start to care for the person that's holding you captive. Stolkholm syndrome I think.

Fallout 3 is probably among my favorite games of all time. Right up there with Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2, Metal Gear Solid and GTA San Andreas. I can't seem to assign numbers to them though...
I stem from the generation of console gamers. When all of those amazing classic PC games that molded people into being able to maneuver a mouse & keyboard like a toothbrush, I was loading up AOL trial floppy disks on a crumby old Mac. This was well before they got the Intel chips and became the status symbol for the wealthy elite.

LoL maneuver a mouse and keyboard like a toothbrush? I'd have to say that my toothbrush maneuvering pales in comparison to my keyboard-mouse dexterity =). But alas, I can't play a console game to save my life. Well, unless its the old SNES controller, then I am good to go.
I'm not big into sand-box video games and being a fan of FO1&2 corrupted me. I can see how FO3 would be a great game on its own. Just wish they wouldn't have claimed it was part of the FO genre. I'm sure they could have created it just the same and for cheaper under some other name.

I'd say the third is a okey game, but I get irritated by things like games with 18 certificate (highest rating in the UK) have nudity blured out or completely cut out. Not saying there should be more nudity in a game, but when you offer up prostitution and the game is meant to be played by adults due to the rating then you should treat your audience like adults. From what I've heard, Witcher 2 does this and blows most games out of the water.
New Vegas I tried to like, but like Fallout 3 there are issues I have with it, especially as it's meant to be so many years later and in FO2 they were using newly made dollar coins that they minted from scrap and not bottle caps anymore. Somehow the east-coast appears to be hundreds of years into the past.

Moving over to the OOC so not to bog down the IC with what may/may not be a brainstorming session.
Surprise Round:Spoiler
From my limited understanding of the rules, and please prove me wrong, you can not cast a spell while hidden unless you have silent spell because you must cast it in a strong voice which would be loud enough for the bandits to hear (Reference) . Even some somatic components could give you away. This would expose Carina and probably start the combat. Heck I'm sure none of us would let some strange mage in the woods start casting a spell without acting. Now her initiating the spell would be considered her action in the surprise round and since I don't like to waste time or actions, I'd like to act in the surprise round rather than waiting for her to finish casting.
I can tell you one thing. I would not want this to be ruled that you can cast while stealthed. It would be horrible if enemy mages could cast while stealthed and not be revealed. It is one reason silent spell is worth taking other than the odd times when you are deafened or silenced.
My opinion on casting in a surprise round is that its okay. Its a standard action to cast most spells. Sleep does take a full round to cast so my guess is that Carina should be able to start the spell during the surprise round and it would go into effect at the beginning of her next turn when the battle starts.
So the ambush would happen like this: Carina starts Sleep spell => Lukan and I shoot at Kressel => everyone rolls initiative => normal battle ensues.
This is just my speculation. Other opinions are encouraged.

Jameson Addercop IV |

That's pretty much the way I see it happening. As for Lukan shooting her, we had a plan to hide and ambush them. They saw me early, so we're moving up the timetable a little. As for not charging them right away, I look at it this way. They surrender, we win. They spend a turn laughing at me and don't notice everybody else, we have an advantage.

Lukan Swane "Swaney" |

I still fondly remember the days of playing Zork.
Haha Zork gave me headaches and nightmares. I think I was a bit too young to be playing it at the time.
That's how I see it going down too Ganit. I think I may have thought a little too much about it. My assumption was that you guys were trying to get a sleep spell off in a single surprise round.

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

Awesome. I'd say everyone is acting totally within character so its all a win. Now lets just see how well we stand up against Kressel McBadass and her merry gentlemen.
ps - I can't believe that I forgot to add Final Fantasy VIII to my list of favorite games. That and Super Mario RPG we're pretty big staples of my childhood.

I think you added one too many I to your Final Fantasy number ;). VII was the best.
Well seeing how we did 21 damage and poisoned her in a surprise round, I don't think she will be faring very well =P Famous last words as she charges me (without my shield equipped) and crits with x3.

Lol. I loved the junction system, the GF's, the story, Squall, and I'm pretty sure Rhinoa was my first official "crush." I could never get into 7 like I did with 8. Something about glorifying eco-terrorists never settled well with me.
Smelly hippies... ;)
At least thats the argument I used to instigate fights with my friends back in the day, haha.

+1 Though I also quite liked FF9. FF8 I've heard a HELL of a lot of complaints about like the whole drawing magic and sticking it to your abilities. Not the worse FF game though...newest ones have a interesting world unfortunatly I got really annoyed with that you have to earn the respect of your summons. It's a nice idea to beat them before taking them like FF10, but the newest they made it where attacking wasn't nessacerily the best way as you could gain it from healing team mates or items, but you are never told what is most effective, not to mention you have a limited amount of rounds before everyone insta-dies and when the first one had me confused as to what to do then I got pretty frustraited after dying 5 times.
Been playing Planescape but havn't for a while. Need to get back into it as I've kinda gotten lost onto where to go to next. Met up with the demonic paladin thing, whatever her name was. Plus I like the hot Tiefling and their swear words "pike off" but then again I like Tieflings and Aasimars.

My only other surprise round action if allowed would be to make sure I have a clear charge lane to Kessel.
Don't think you can get a surprise round because both Kressel and all 8 of her bandits can see you.

for me it was Aries and for some reason I always liked the "girly" girls, howver nowadays I perfer woman who have the spines to stand up for themselves, more like Tifa so I perfer Tifa due to her history with Cloud and the fact she beats the crap out of monsters with her fists (was funny, I rarely used her and at one moment you have to kill one of those Jenova things that used fire Tifa had the fire ring. Low level it's mass attack would've killed her, but it instead healed her and she just kept limit breaking until it died ;P
Another "crush" would be Lamia from Star Fleet, always joked the hairy guy was my dad but now I look just like my dad, oh well ;p. Also Commander Makara as I have a thing for evil. Just seems that whenever a woman turns evil in a movie, TV show or anime they become 60% hotter. Must be the dark goth makeup *shrugs*

Takes one to know one!
I bought FF13 with the highest hopes. I had seen screen shots and videos online for over a year before it came out and I was soooooo excited to play it. After couple of weeks I was utterly bored of it. I guess the age of J-RPG's is declining. Western role playing games like elder scrolls and fallout have replaced them in my heart unfortunately.
On a side note, the best thing 13 had going for it was the number of cute pixelated heroins. Lightning is a downright babe, haha.
Also while I'm at it. I had readied an action to shoot Kressel earlier in the IC thread. Pretty good attack and damage plus poison. Post 1106

ahh couldn't see it. must've been buried from posting (again, reason for me to post up the iniative.).
Yeah, many of them were hot, I don't deny it and the combat system reminded me of Grandia where you can attack when the enemy attacks and if you're fast enough you counter and deal more damage, which is always nice, though the "gunblades" in this were quite cool if you get my meaning.
Grandia was one of those greats, though the second wasn't that good, it seems more like they were taking a pop at the Cathlic chuch (not that I'm defending the church) rarther than having a more focused story, though I loved the idea of gathering peices of a evil deity to try and re-assemble it however the ending was annoying.
Recently got Suikoden, bought it on the american PSN because our UK one didn't have it, however now I learn that recently (about a year or two afte rI bought it) they merged the game servers so you can buy the stuff unavailable in the UK now. Ah progress, it leaves someone behind feeling robbed :p.

I just realized I am horrible horrible person! I completely forgot about Baldur's Gate 2!! That's like my 3rd favorite PC game. I should be beaten for not mentioning it
I hear what you mean about Aeries, Aron. I had a thing for her and the winged-elf chick in Baldur's Gate. I think the greatest thing about FF7 was the "OMG WTF" moment about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through (Depending on how much you play all the extra stuff). There's no arguing that FF7 was the better FF, hell, they made a movie after it, and keep saying they are going to remake it. I wish they would. I'd buy it.
By the way, I've always seen it where a caster can start casting a full-round spell during the surprise attack, but this would give her only a standard action on the next round (since it would eat up everything else to pay for the full-round).

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain |

Grandia 3 was amazing! It's the only one in the series that I played but the battle system was outstanding. By the second disk I was knocking people in the air and getting a whole team combo sometimes the first attacker would make it all the way around for a second hit.
I did give BG2 a try and it was pretty cool but I had to give it back to my friend before I got too swept up in it. I did like the Dark Alliance games despite the many flaws. My first experience with the d20 system. Ahh, so young...

DM Aron Marczylo |

Baldur's Gate 2 was pretty awesome. Icewind Dale and ID2 didn't excite me as much but the BG series was pure gold.
GO FOR THE EYES BOO, GO FOR THE EYES!!!
I remember my friend gave me a link to the ranger rap about Minsc and I found a site with all his lines.
The second game was pretty TMI when you ask him where he hid Boo because everyone had been searched he says "Boo is very small and Minsc's body is very big" ...now I'm thinking of poor Lemmiwinks in Southpark.

Carina Stigard |

I think I played BG and maybe BG2 - pretty sure I did anyway. Never played any of the others as far as I recall. So, we gonna take out these bandits, or invite them to pow wow about caravan girls and games involving magical screens which allow people to interact with illusions.

Sir Bronwyn Raslov |

I should be an appropriate time to get an initiative table going. Just hope Kressel doesn't attack me right off the bat.
Fallout > Fallout 2 > Fallout 3.
Also, Chrono Cross rules ass and FF Tactics is insanely addictive. I must've spent around 200 game hours on that.
