hi there, i just found this post right now, and was about to post, refreshed, and just saw that you were starting up tomorrow...
I'm out of town until the 8th of august with really limited internet access starting saturday, but if there would be a way to get into the game then, i can get a character made tonight. but if that's not workable i really don't want to inconvenience anyone...
| DM Aron Marczylo |
@Olondir
Sorry to hear, hope you enjoy the new games you're in.
@Ed Gentry
Paladin could fit in easily. As there is only the minimum here and there's already a summoner, but if you want to play a summoner anyway, go ahead.
@Swany
Don't worry, not stepping on my toes.
Personally I've been surprised how mundane items have been so useful. In the first part of Curse of the Crimson throne a powerful construct was trpped then the wizard used the tanglefoot bag and glued it to the floor. Certainly sucked the fear and horror out of the combat when the opponent is glued to the floor and can't attack from where he was, lol.
Anything you can afford really for equipment, but most magic stuff is far out of anyone's price range, especially as you are all on average starting cash and you'll want to spend money more on weapons and ammunition for say crossbow bolts or bow arrows.
Personally when making a character (especially a fighter) I pack weapons prepared for whatever. Afterall some creatures fly so ranged weapons, some DR slashing, so bludgeoning and vice versa. This is the Stolen Lands so for basic knowledge you all know that the land is rife with bandits, monsters, animals and fey so when entering a place like this, what would you equip yourself with?
I suggest looking for equipment in d20pfsrd so you can have a large selection of equipment to choose from.

DM Aron Marczylo wrote:Would tonight be too late to post my character? I'm at work and can't do it yet. I play PF irl but have no PBP games at all.Due to lack of interest I'll start up tomorrow. Will have to get the map of the area (of course the areas you have no yet examined blacked out), and pick places to add one or two extra places. Afterall, that's the real fun of this Sandbox is that I as a DM can technically add new things that aren't in the AP and no two KM games are the same.
For those that don't know how to make a alternate profile go into my account and there is a area where you can add a new alternative. I have many myself...
Nah it's not too late. Due to the increased activity it'll be a while.
It's 9:30pm in my time zone so plenty of time. Same to you waiph.
| imjohnnyrah |
I'd also like to join this campaign. I'm planning on a Human Ranger with the (not that it matters this early) trapper archetype from UM. I've got a good idea of the stat block for him but I'll need a minute when I get out of work to give him a backstory.
This will be my first post to post so if there are any resources I should know about please let me know. Thanks
| waiph |
Lol, i was just about to ask if there was still time and refreshed again before making a fool of myself...
Also where are you??? it's 11 45 pm here...
writing up character currently.
i was thinking of going Half-Elf Barb=>Dragon disciple, crossblooded with either Envenomed or Empyreal.
Empyreal would mean I focus on Wis, and see if I can't get a bonus for sense motive, and be sharp, but have some serious mental issues (cross-blooded and dual-minded).
Envenomed focuses on Cha, maybe Intimidating Prowess, and Eldritch heritage Orc blood, for a really booped up racial heritage...looking at the rest of the book right now.

Lukan Swane "Swaney" wrote:But be very aware, this is an optimization guide and RP always trumps optimization.
The two don't need to be mutually exclusive :).
I would also recommend Treantmonk's guide although remember its a little out of date with APG out.
Right on. Heck, I've optimized my character, but when you have to choose between the sub-par wizard school of 'ugilyboop' (because you want to be able to cast ugilyboops like no other) or the awesome over-powered school of 'blastopolies,' thats when RP trumps optimization. (wizard schools names have been changed to protect the innocent). It's always better to choose what you want to play over what is 'good' - especially in a 6 person group.
@ DM Aron, No kidding about the tanglefoot bag. That item is very powerful. My wife used it in our local game that I was GMing. She neutered my super awesome goblin oracle of doom.
@imjohnnyrah, what a life-saver if you do play with us. We are hurting, very badly, for a survivalist type of character.

17th level, although theres basic material to play beyond that if a group wants to. Even at a fast pace without much added in your looking at at least 3 years RL time to run it over PbP though.
| waiph |
So are we starting tomorrow or not haha. And do we know who is playing so far and who isnt? I only ask to know whether or not our 2 characters need to be expanded.
@ waiph Don't you mean sorcerer not barbarian lol
Nope, i mean Barb. 1 level of Sorc, but it's a melee build.

Ka'etil Malas'rae
Ka'etil Malas'rae (translates roughly to dragon-eyed wild war beast)
is an Issian Half-elf, named Ka'etil by his beautiful elven mother, Ky'aviawyn. He was sired by a not very honest, not very kind, not very human being of great magical power. But when she found out she was with child, Kyavia decided to keep the child, but much to her dismay, he turned out to take more after his father than her. As a boy, he was prone to sever mood-swings and violent out-bursts, and his mind was on the more fragile side.
His rough nature earned him the title of Malas'rae, and true to his name, music soothed the savage beast within him, and he adored his mothers songs. Is the only thing he misses of his now abandoned home. He struck out on his own as a young man, making his name known, earning him the attention of the Swordlords as they sent out their charters. Even though he was born an Issian, he seems to have no real ties to the nation.

The Hermit Ganit D'Artain
Ganit D'Artain has seen it all. Why wouldn't he? He has lived on the borderland nearly 15 years and the grounds nearing the stolen land are anything but uneventful. He's seen legions of Brevoy's soldiers gone insane from the forest's tricks. Seen the shadows of peculiar beasts patrolling the riverbeds. The charred remnants of settlers displayed by their near fully constructed homes. He's seen it all.
Though in a way, the border can be fruitful for those who can manipulate it. Ganit has learned the ways of the land a hundred times over. He's made his income trapping and skinning some of the less horrifying denizens of the wood or playing cartographer for some of the more snobbish visitors. On occasion he's even lead group through some of the safer passages though he knows well enough where he should turn back.

Ganit stands slightly taller than the average human at about 5'11. His thick, once black hair has grown silver and grey over the past years. The border is rough land on even the strongest willed. He keeps it pulled back in a rogue knot to keep it from spoiling his vision. Underneath his right eye there's a scar carved deep into his cheek. The scar runs the length of his face and ends slightly below his collarbone. He grows his beard out so that the majority of it stays hidden, as if to make it more appealing. He doesn't care to address the origins of his disfiguring wound, often times he'll give a different story to each who asks. Examples range from "won a drinking game with an orc" to "Weretiger parade" to "mosquito bite."
edit - added physical description.

I figure being kinda crazy, occasional rolling between emotional extremes and total lack of affect, as well as not being super observant should cut it.
MK works like this... Barb2/sorc1, but my Mage Armor lasts 3 hours. as if i was a Sorc 3. +2 caster level.

DM Aron, if you allow the Houndmaster archetype, here he is:
History:
Osslend Abenier grew up in and around Restov with his family in squalid conditions due to his father's investments in get-rich-quick schemes. His father was the Hound-master for a local noble and when his father died, Osslend became the new Hound-master for that house at the age of 15. Osslend always had a talent for sword-work and quickly found additional work teaching the noble's own son, Willan, only two years younger than Osslend, the basics of sword fighting.
Osslend went on happily this way for a few years, eventually moving onto the nobleman's property when his own mother succumbed to the heartache of losing her scoundrel of a husband. Willan and Osslend became the best of friends, but Osslend grew to dislike his nobleman employer whom he believed to be mistreating Willan in...perverse ways. Osslend had begun trying to save up money to help get Willan and himself away from his father very soon.
Recently, thought, Willan was traveling with his father on a business trip near the Stolen Lands and was kidnapped when his father was attacked and robbed. The nobleman has hired a team of toughs to find his son but Osslend has taken matters into his own hands.
His dog, Virgil, is a fine tracker and knows Willan well. Osslend intends to get to the Stolen Lands and find his young friend.
Osslend is a quiet young man who is a bit too serious for his own good most times. Life as taught him to be vigilant and less trusting than some and it's a lesson he's learned well. Though he cares for his young friend Willan, whom he regards as a brother, he loves unconditionally his dog, Virgil. The dog was given to him by his father and has been his best friend for nearly five years.

Ok my alias is all done thanks again swaney for use of your alias set up based on holbrechts. Made things really simple. Let me know if I need to change anything.
One quick thing I noticed is that your spell list is a bit lacking - probably because you just listed your prepared spells =). You should have around 6 or so level 1 spells in your spell book that you can select from.
No problem on the format fellas. Glad you found it helpful.
When it rains it pours. I don't envy DM Aron right now after all these posts and interests =).

Kudos on the format, Holbrecht. I'm no message board RP expert, but I think its a good idea to put all your information in your profile. Here is that formatting Holbrecth used (you can go in my profile and expand the selections, there is nothing I'm hiding there):
|spoiler=|b]Basics] blah blah
|spoiler=|b]Racial Traits] blah blah
...and so on... replace the | with [ and hopefully you get the idea.
Been watchin the thread like a hawk, and somehow missed this until Raventhorn thanked you for the format. Thank you, I did it mainly because this was my first Pathfinder character and I wanted all the info in one spot.
I also open them up an print a copy, so that I can reference it when taking my turns. Nothing worse than typing a good post and going into the profile to check a number to realize that you lost the whole post because of it.

Background: A woman of sharp intellect and driving passion. Heavily influenced by the death of her parents during an Inquisitor raid on her home town to remove a demon cult, she was orphaned and taken to a wizards college at a very young age after an occult symbol of Nethys was found scarred into her back, she has been heavily influenced by the loss of her noble status and feels slighted by fate at times. She believes she is entitled to more than what she has been given and that can make her seem abbrasive at times. However, like most wizards, her pursuit of knowledge will generally come before most other concerns.
Personality: Being from a noble family without any claim to her bloodright and raised among wizards and nobles children, she is sensative about certain subjects of her life. She attempts to exude an aura of nobility that sits awkwardly on her shoulders. In the persuit of knowledge she is singularly focused and will lose herself in her studies if allowed to.
Appearance: A green eyed, red haired woman with tanned skin, a strong hint of strange blood runs in her veins as her eyes are slanted upwards and the pupils have an almost cat-like slit. She wears scholarly robes of soft silk with embroidered images down the right side and skirt. A red sash wraps around her waist and holds under the folded cloth her myriad pouches. Her pack bulges with the amount of things kept inside of it and she always smells faintly of jasmine and sulfur.
Kingmaker: Learning of the chance to study the mysteries of the Stolen Lands is too good an opportunity for Katya to miss out on so she has decided to sign up with the expeditions being sent south. Also, in the back of her mind she has begun to formulate possible plans to regain the good graces of the nobility in this venture, and perhaps convince King Noleski Surtova to give her back her title.

Okay, one more submission. If it's too late, I understand. Different character, though I used the same name only.
Osslend Abenier was a Rostlander farmer, hardworking and helpful to his neighbors in the South of Brevoy. He lived an average life, putting his honed muscles to use breaking the earth so that others might plant there. Never taking a wife, Osslend was oft sought after by the women of the community but never felt the need to indulge in such frivolity. Life was work; hard work and that was plenty.
Always one to help a neighbor, Osslend often helped stave off the unwanted advances of land-buyers who tried to harass his community. Bullies were not tolerated and friends knew they could come to Osslend if they ever had such trouble.
When Osslend heard news of the expansion into the Stolen Lands, he felt a tug of responsibility to go but, maybe for the first time, felt afraid. He was afraid of leaving his home and all he had ever known. That is, until he began having dreams of an old trapper man leading him into the wilderness. It was then that Osslend knew that Erastil, old Deadeye, was telling him that it was his duty to go and protect those new settlers. After all, they're his people and "someone's got to make sure they don't get taken advantage of."
Osslend Abenier is in his early 30s and is a quiet man. He needs very little and accepts even less. He works for what his is and shares it freely. He does not tolerate rudeness or apathy. He is often the the last to speak but his word usually brooks no further argument. If you are kind, helpful and hardworking he will be the best friend you could ever have.

On his way out of town to volunteer to join the Stolen Lands expedition, Osslend was seen wearing only the tough, burlap farming clothes he had always worn and carrying his enormous hammer that he used to break and till the earth with for farming. A merchant took pity of him and sold him a chain shirt to protect him. That is all he carries.

I'm in the UK so when he posted it was like 5am in the morning so I of course wasn't up at that time.
Anyway it's taken so long mostly because I've trie dot clear my head so that I could come back and make the difficult choice. Good thing was many of you had an amazing backstory, bad thing was many of you had an amazing backstory so choosing one over the other was difficult, but I have reached a decision:

1. Lukan Swane "Swaney"
2. Sir Bronwyn Raslov
3. Cambyl
4. Zayne Dragoneye
5. Tholamin Medvyed
6. The Hermit Ganit D'Artain
Proceed over to the OOC thread. I'll get to posting up the main RP thread there after I've walked the dog.
For those who didn't make it, I'm sorry that I could take you guys on but the limit was 6 and not 10 or so I'd need to have you all, lol. Good luck and don't give up hope.
