Ideas on running CotCT in Eberron?

Curse of the Crimson Throne

I'm toying with the idea of using the AP in Eberron. I've only found this link about the subject.

Any thoughts, ideas, concerns, advice, warnings?

For now, I'm thinking Korth, the capital of Karrnath as Korvosa, and the deep Talenta plains for the Cinderlands.

Thanks in advance!

That's perfect...beautiful even.

All the shoanti can be hafling tribes. Perhaps the plague follows along the goal of buidling Karrnath's undead legionaires. Of course the citizens are mostly opposed to this but come to need it for the Nations survival.

Thoughts - Timeline, during the Last War. War being the key motivator. You can add the pathfinder module Acadamae of Secrets into your AP!

Ideas - Scarwall is a remote location in Cyre. The Day of Mourning just took place, transforming the Nation of Cyre into the Mournlands.

Concern - Warforged, they are around, but no personal freedoms since they are owned contracts.

Advice - Red Mantis is working for Blood of Vol. The queen makes a pact, would explain the body double and blood aspect in module 6.
Gray Maidens are the Emerald Claw, a new order which happened to have formed in Korth at time of Last War by the monarchy. Brothehood of Bones (Only one person representing the group, a changling )might be a rival Nation in disguise as a Karrn, seeking to ruin the queen's goal. Perhaps a Royal Eye of Aundair.

Warning - Due to Last War, serious warring factions that won't allow outsiders (other representing Nations) in Korth. With Blood of Vol in mind, how heavy do you want the undead or particulary vampires to be?

Good luck. Let me know how it goes. Love Eberron. Wish I thought of this before running Curse. Running Module 5 right now.

Thanks for the advice Xenomorph. If you get a chance to edit your post, it might be better to spoiler some parts...

I run a version of Eberron where the religions are even less "aligned", meaning the Blood of Vol is nowhere near the evil it is in the regular setting, it focuses on the power within oneself to free mankind from superstition, though factions exist that are very polarized, advocating the transformation into undead to avoid the stagnation of the Afterlife...

Feel free to come up with more!

EDIT: Not sure about setting it during the Last War. I kind of like the post-war stunned kingdoms where most "tech" is nowhere near the glories of the near past of Galifar...

DOH !

Sorry, new to these BBCodes. I'm not seeing edit anywhere. :(

I'll see whatelse I can come up with to the Eberron AP request.

Other AP's like Kingmaker and Serpents Skull look Xen'drik worthy. Carrion Crown looks promising for Karrnath, maybe some adjustment for Thrane and ties to the Mournland. Legacy of Fire could be a warforged theme with Lord Of Blades as the main villian.

Interesting ideas!

Kingmaker I could also see in Aundair/Eldeen Reaches... Serpent's Skull could also be moved to Q'barra.

About CotCT: I have changed the warforged to remove many of its immunities, including diseases. I thought the Mantis could be the Emerald Order, but I need to read more before deciding.

As I've changed many things, I've let the issue of Kaius III stand for now. Perhaps reading the whole AP will bring interesting and twisted ideas...

I'll look into Academae of Secrets.

Academy of Secrets would take place much later. I'll keep it as an option if we get there.

Another question: Korvosa is a city-state, while Korth is the capital of Karrnath. Can this become an issue? Would its isolated state play a bigger role than I foresee? Could the player simply seek the help of other cities like Rekkenmark or Atur?

Yeah I thought about the city state earlier and thought Last War would solve outside help hazzard.

Spoiler:
You want to do Post War so the only thing I could readily think of would be to make them wanted and pursued by a duped Sentinel Marshall or excoriate the lot of them if tied to a House. If Kiaus is involved, people prolly don't want to cross him. Maybe a master inquistor helps but then ends up dead to leave the impression of, do this on your own.
Maybe someone does help them unexpectedly, later have them turn on them to perhaps prevent a second attempt. The help could come up when they leave for the Talentia Plains but they shouldn't feel the need until then.

Read the whole AP since there are alot or recurring people from time to time. Advice- use Rolth as one of the initial people who want to settle the score with Lamm too. Build strong friendship with Rolth and unexpectedly leave with feelings of discernment. Later returns with the arrival of the good doctor Davalus.

Harrow Deck is a good thing to have. Could make a Harrow Deck of Many Things. Acadame of Secrets is for 13th level. There is a conversion guide from 3.5 to pathfinder for all the encounters if you want to stick more with the Pathfinder books, although you prolly have a stack of 3.5 Eberron books. I made a couple lists of all mage and cleric spells from CR, APG, and UM if you want a handy printout for any casters in the group. It lists a descriptor for spell and page number. Made it an excel sheet to be used as a character spell sheet.

I'm not sure I understand your solution, since I don't know how the city-state status versus capital really can create a problem. Could you elaborate on the cause of the problem?

Many thanks. I'll make sure I read through the whole thing!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

There should not be a problem with the capital in place of the city state. Even with the city state before the Eberron enhancement, there are many neighboring towns and settlements in Varsia. The Sable Marines can be represented as the Rekkenmark. You will see just how little of help they will become.

IF the PC's are adamant on help, as suggested they can be chased by a duped Sentinel Marshall to keep them off the path of outside help. Perhaps what they do to Lamm will bring about the Marshall or maybe Kaius employs the help. The PC's could hire a Master Inquistor but have him die by the Mantis or something sinister to ward that help away. The party will be working exclusively with the Guard, who turns out need there help more than they can provide on there own. The whole feeling of hope should only come from within each party member when they see they have little choice but to take care of the matter themselves.

Rekkenmark - Sable Marines
White Lions - The Guard
Emerald Claw - Red Mantis
Blood of Vol- The Gray Maidens
House Deneith - Hellknights
House Jorasco (exorciates)- Plague Doctors & Doctor Davauls
The Twelve - The Acadamae
Royal House(I have details on how this can work following The Eberron Novel~The Darkwood Mask) - House Arkona

We have had a lot of fun running as a evil party. The goal being, get rid of the queen so we we can be free to enact our own goals. Trade one evil for another so to speak. Evil group that hates the queen and will do whatever to be rid of her rule.

Those are very good suggestions! I like that list!

Thanks again.

No problem, happy to help out.
