Liberty's Edge

Hey all,

My vivisectionist alchemist is adding a level 7 cohort and it will be an Awakened Eagle.

It's natural attacks look like this: Attack bite (1d4), 2 talons (1d4);

Is there any way to tell which are primary and which secondary?

How do his existing natural attacks fold into taking a class? Seems like as a Monk they're a write-off, he wouldn't get to use them at all in a flurry and would use a Monk BAB.

I don't imagine Fighter would work very well - no hands to wield weapons, unless I am missing some obscure Exotic Weapons (am I?). But if I tried it, how would his level 6 attack gain work? Would it be two attacks with one natural weapon but still having the other 2 as secondaries?

I think you will want to grab the new issue of Kobold Quarterly when it comes out in a few weeks! :)

If you take a look in the Bestiary under natural weapons (pg 303)it will show what attacks are flagged as primary or secondary.

(all Bite and Talon Attacks are flagged as a primary Attack)

And Fighter would actually be very easy if you take the Savage Warrior fighter archetype from the APG. It was designed to be used by characters with existing natural attacks. And since it doesn't have hands to wield weapons you might want to invest in some spiked barding for it's iterative attacks and the multiattack feat so it can use it's existing natural attacks as well.

I can see it doing constant flyby attacks (feat), ripping it's opponents up with the razors on it's armor (iterative attacks) while slashing and plucking out eyes with it's beak (natural attacks, as secondary weapons at BaB -2).
At 6th level it would be doing Spike/Spike/Claw/Claw/Bite at +6/+1/+4/+4/+4.
And with all the feats a fighter would have at that level it would be a lightning quick, lethal bundle of feathers razors and claws. Ouch.

Just a quick FYI ...

The new issue of Kobold Quarterly I was talking about is now out:

Kobold Quarterly 18

You might find the Beast Masters article interesting and helpful :)

You are unable to do a full attack during a flyby attack, but it's reasonable to give him the option of a sweep for a bit of damage, or drop the full attack. Yay flanking, anyone?
It would be a kindof nice li'l buddy to have around.
