Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

Ok, here we go. I'd like a suggestion from everyone getting in for the city, the feel of the game (gritty, heroic, dark, dirty, clean, gory, things like that.) and for the type of group.

I currently have only one suggestion for the city: Tokyo.

For the feel I tend to think a bit gritty, greedy and dark. Some gore but not excessive.

The ideas for the group are:

1)A gang game, with the players representing gang members, working to move up within the gang, as well as trying to take more territory, recruit more members and gain any advantage they can.

2)A sports team. With the violent games in the Sixth World, a group of athletes (league rules make the claim that all memebers of the team must be athletes themselves. Even managers, mechanics, and anything else.) In this bit I tend towards an Urban Brawl team or Combat Biking (Which would use the Arsenal rules for vehicular mods.) These teams would have to deal with rivals, crazy fans, protesters, maybe even the occasional shadow mission to grab some form of advantage over the other teams.

I'm open to many more suggestions.

Hey there, chummer. Just posting to save this thread till I can put some ideas together. Tokyo wouldn't be bad, but I would imagine it might prove a little more difficult than some other cities to portray. I'll roll anyhwere and do what we need to make that Nuyen. Are you planning on playing straight from the rules or doing a little homebrew action to smooth things out for PBP? I have heard that S4 can be a little difficult to run online, but I have no idea how true this is.

The Sports Team/Shadow Team sounds like a good mix of traditional and non-traditional running to me. I like it. If the teams are anything liek the real life Raiders you'll have to combine both ideas, lol.

I would love to get in on a game like idea #1.
I too would like a gritty feeling game, and any city is fine. Tokyo would be quite a doozy.

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

Whoo-hoo! Been waiting Forever for another Shadowrun game!

Either concept works for me, as well as straight up shadowrunning for Nyuen. I prefer my world to be more dark, gritty and greedy than clean and heroic. But that said, my guys usually stand just slightly more on the side of heroic than villainous.

This just popped into my head, how about an alien invasion? Or plunging through a rift into a D&D type world? Or would that just make your GM job next to impossible?

Liberty's Edge

A dark gritty world works great for me.

I would definitely be up for a gang style game if you have any ideas in that front, starting lower on the totem pole than a normal runner and building our way up from there.

Beyond that, any idea would work for me if you would have fun with it really, anything from being more traditional runners, to having a cause, or even making an investigative or doc wagon squad.

Seems like its hard not to be in the action in the 6th world and pretty much all of the setting has a lot of potential for fun.

I like a gritty, your dude will likely die at some point type of game, too. I don't mind the idea of getting my wig split if it makes for fun gaming. Runnin' is dangerous and when you're dead, well, you're dead. But, I also want to ba able to blow a big nasty hole in someone's face or fry their brain in the Matrix, too.

How about a investigative team? Perhaps working for Lone Star or as a private firm. Murders, kidnappings, data theft, and voodoo rituals all leading to some darker end?

Sovereign Court

Frag yes! I like both options but I might have to lean towards option 1, or how about we play a corporate security team where we counter act runners or have to get items back from them or at least figure out how something happened. Either way i think it will be fun chummer!

Shadow Lodge

I would be interested in signing on for this as well, I've played Shadowrun so getting in on a 4e game would be a good time. Anything suggested sounds good to me. I like the sports team concept and Tokyo would be awesome.

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

Seeing good ideas, I'll go with a straight up vote.

Gang
Sports Team
Investigation/Lonestar/CorpSec
Alien Invasion

I will be playing mostly with the rules, with any homebrew work purely off the top of my head. I'm more roleplayer than rollplayer so I'll probably bend the rules on occasion to smooth things. I like the idea of a rift type game but... that seems really hard to GM. I have enough on my plate playing a super crunchy game on a pbp.

So yeah, votes everyone. If we need a tiebreaker, I'll be it, but I think we'll do OK.

Shadow Lodge

My pref (if I'm accepted of course) is:

1. Sports Team
2. Alien Invasion
3. Investigation
4. Gang

Also do you have any houserules for mages and the credit/xp imbalance? In the last game I played the GM had a trade credits for experience rule in place for mages since they don't need money as much as they need xp.

Sovereign Court

My vote is:

1. Investigation
2. Gang
3. Sports team
4. Alien Invasion

Can't wait to see what we pick hehe!

Liberty's Edge

I would probably go:

1 Gangs
2 Investigation
3 Invasion(if not alien could be bug spirits or something)
4 Sports league

My vote for this would go

1 Gangs
2 Investigation-This is a really close second
3 Invasion
4 Sports league

MALE ORK

Id love to get in on this, if space is available.

IF i am in, my votes would be
1) alien invasion
2)investigation
3)gangs
4) sports league

types of characters i would play for the above are:

1) pvt hudson style "we all gonna die man!!" (aliens)
2) john preston "unemotional/emotional" (equilibrium)
3) the punisher... need i go into detail on this one?
4)chuck neiderman "naive radio announcer" (necessary roughness)

Male to kill the six fingered man Duelist/20 years

I'm definitely down to play. My votes are:

1) Sports League
2) Alien Invasion
3) Investigation
4) Gangs

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

Current score:

Gang 14
Sports 17
Alien Invasion 15
Investigation 13

Current race is pretty close between Investigation and Gangs.

@Balodek: I actually had never thought much about it but obviously you're right. Do you happen to know what your GM settled on for how much xp was worth? I would allow it I suppose, though I'm leery of it. We'll see. I will try to find some way to even this out anyway.

I'm going to wait till tomorrow, then take the top two ideas and either set up a vote between them, or, if we have enough players, throw together two games and allow people to choose. Then we can get characters set up, those of you who have character ideas, here's the parameters.

350 BP
Standard rules on how high attributes and skills may go. (1 at max or 2 at closest to max)
No forbidden items allowed at character creation. 1 point (5000 nuyen) worth of restricted items may be bought. Restricted items also may be bought if you also have the SINner quality and a backstory reason, or if you have the appropriate fake license. In the latter case you may only buy restrictions equal to the rating of the license.
No players may start with an essence score less than 2, unless you are very persuasive and can talk me into it.
No crazy races or metatypes. Elf, Ork, Human, Troll and Dwarf only.
Any other Qualities, Skills and Equipment from books in the main line (Arsenal, Unwired, Street Magic, Runner's Comp.... I feel I'm forgetting one but you understand).

There may be others, I will have to look. Please, please, please, please do not make your characters optimized badasses. I like roleplayed, interesting characters, take skills that don't seem useful if they fit, have a few unoptimal stats high. Things like that, if they're interesting, will be far more likely to make me want them than Standard Street Samurai #87.

Scarab Sages

M carbon based dice form graphic guy 10 / geek 5 / collector 6 / daddy 2 / GM 4

My vote:
1. Gang
2. Alien Invasion
3. Investigation
4. Sports Team

Could we use the Way of the Adept pdf that came out a month(ish) ago?
I'd like to play an adept of some sort.

Lastwall Heroes - Current Date: Toilday, 31 Desnus, 4711 AR | Shadowrun - Current Date: Saturday, March 13, 2060

First up, my votes:

1. Investigator
2. Gang
3. Aliens
4. Sports Team

There was a rule for this in the Shadowrun Companion for 2 and 3ed -- basically, you were donating money to charity and the like to buy the karma (and the inverse was you could spend karma to get money, which worked either as a buying raffle tickets or visiting a free spirit with the wealth power). I've got the old books, I can dig it out.

Also, question: Do you allow adepts to limit their powers with geasa, and for that matter, work with alternate magical traditions (subject to approval, of course..)

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

.I'll have to look at the geasa rules. I do allow alternate magical traditions, however, none cam be single attribute dependant. Each one must have two attributes to resist drain.

I'll start working on this tonight. Thinking a rigger of some sort, probably dwarven.

Liberty's Edge

I think that if we are doing a gangs or investigators I will probably be making a character who had some sort of drug connections(dealing more than using). In the gang he probably will still be involved in it, as an investigator he would be trying to move on from that life, but either way he would be primarily charismatic and with a lot of contacts.

For the others, I would likely need to have a better idea of what the idea was going to be so I could come up with a better concept that would fit into it. I'll be happy to build either way though.

Shadow Lodge

Either way I'll work up a Dwarven Mage and hold off on spells until I know what kind of gang it is. Healing is most likely on the list, as it's just too valuable to not have imo.

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

Gangs 17
Sports 25
Invasion 20
Investigation 17

And ten players so... what the hell, both ideas, two games. One gang and one investiagation squad. 5 players apiece. May cross from time to time. Will be set in same city.

So, city suggestions? And for whichever you'd rather be in, suggest type or theme of gang and type of investigative unit (lonestar, corpsec, private, whatever). Then pitch me a character.

Liberty's Edge

I would prefer the gang game out of the two, using the character mentioned above(sort of a wannabe fixer who started off with drugs/btls and wants to get to bigger things).

I am pretty open in terms of cities. Seattle, Berlin, Capetown, Tokyo all have very different and interesting gang scenes.

I would prefer the gang game as well.

i'll try to get a concept nailed down and i'll get back to you

Edit:Reading over unwired and leaning heavily towards the concept of a technomancer

I have a headache of an idea. How about the investigator team is looking into some of the gang activity? Possibly a little PvP at some point or forced to work together or maybe both? In any case, I'll put in for the investigator team.

Dwarf Rigger/Drone Rigger with a penchant for Warhammer and as a bit of joke embraces some of the imagery. I am thinking a mild allergie to orks and troll dandruff will also be a fun little bit to add.

I'll get with it tonight and have him up this weekend.

Is it too late to join?

Shadow Lodge

Dwarf Mage on the Investigator team for me. As for the credit/xp exchange, I believe he used the one directly out of the 3e book.

City choices:

1. Tokyo
2. Houston
3. Washington/East Coast
4. Europe

Generic I know but I'm not familiar with the situation outside North America in 2072.

I'll play any city, but I would say go with the one you, as a GM, will be able bring to life the easiest. If that happens to be whatever city you are from or close to, then let's do it there. On the other hand, if you can bring any of the others to life then they are going to be cool too.

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

To be perfectly honest every city I'm close to makes me think... Naaahhhh. I'm fine with coming up with something else. Note that since I don't have every splatbook or anything, whichever city we pick probably won't be SR official, and just be whatever I throw together to give me an awesome feel for the country. For instance: The Tokyo of 2070 that I imagine is a gigantic sprawl, but as has been the way in Tokyo recently, has been built upwards. Most buildings are a couple hundred stories tall, with walkways and routes between. This, and the new elevated Mega-Highways, as well as Zen Parks and such on the rooftops, means that some natives haven't touched the ground in years. The ground itself tends to look like a ghost town and be far more dangerous than taking the urban pathways and courses above. I particularly like the gang idea here as I imagine a lot of verticality, with some gangs being cut off by one territory below and one above, meaning they may control a significant area of a building, but never control any groundspace at all.

Just my 2cps, and Xabulba: Why the hell not, might as well. Maybe one more person after you but then I've hit my limit.

Balodek: Suppose unless someone can link the relevant rules I'll try to find a 3e book somewhere.

Bilbo: Whatever the investigation team, I do eventually plan on having you look into something the gang team did. This may lead to PvP or Cooperation, it's why I'm basing both teams in the same city. Also planning on having a bar/nightclub thread of the hottest place in said city (ATM anyway) so that if you choose, you can have cross team interactions, though I will likely be very lax on that thread and not post myself much. It's a place you guys can enjoy yourselves and such while I'm not posting. Not sure it's a good idea but seems fun.

In other news I have quite the nasty case of Pinkeye... yay me!

Shadow Lodge

I've been searching and I can't find the rule yet. If you don't do it I'm not worried about it, I still enjoy playing Mages.

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

Boy that was quick! lol Went to sleep, woke up and the vote's over before I get to vote! No worries though, my vote Would have been the same as SKULLCRUSHA'S:
1) alien invasion
2)investigation
3)gangs
4) sports league

But if Alien Invasion is out, being in the Investigation game would be totally cool for me. Have two fav characters I've played with before but only in short run games. One's a musical child prodigy turned troll turned toughened mage with with a still (hidden) soft soul. The other is a small but ruthless cyber warrior chica trying to earn the experience and nyuen to find, and most importantly get revenge on, the corporate bastards who killed her parents.

Very much like the bar idea, great outlet for getting my fix while jonesing in between GM posts ; )

Lastly but not leastly, sorry to hear 'bout the pink eye man! I know that's not fun at all. Get well soon. I'm sure you're using some medication, but if you can rub the inside of fresh cut aloe vera (just cut open a leaf and rub the gel right on your eye) will help heal it up very quickly. Of course don't share the same leaf between eyes. Be well!

EDIT: Ha! Maybe if the game's going well, down the road both the gang and investigation team would have to deal with an alien invasion! ; D

Cool. I'd want to play a combat mage so either the investigation team or street gang would be ok for me.

Ryuko - the only concerns I have for setting the game in Tokyo is 2070 Japans super strict meta-apartheid and meta-racist military dictatorship.
Tokyo would good only if we wanted to play a low powered and mostly human/elf group.

My personal favorites would by London or Berlin and if we want a totally no-holds-bar type of game we defiantly need to be in Rio or Sao Paulo Brazil.

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

As I said, I've not looked at anything about the cities beyond Seattle. I wouldn't have a meta-aparthied because it doesn't seem fun to me. I would pretty much put together something fun sounding to me. Rio seems like a good area. Same verticality ideas in a favela style area. I imagine the favelas ran out of room and just kept building upward. That'd be entertaining to me. I'm not much on world knowledge of the Sixth World.

MALE ORK

what about syndey, australia? there is next to no mention of australia in any of the source books, aside from a runner or two from the area. just imagine all the crazyness found down under?

+1 to the idea of a cross over of investigating the gangs.

Scarab Sages

M carbon based dice form graphic guy 10 / geek 5 / collector 6 / daddy 2 / GM 4

I'm thinking a sneaky fighty-scout type adept. (Maybe with a splash of fixer.) Haven't thought of race yet. I'll go with investigative first but can move to gang if needed.
For the investigative game: 1) private 2)lonestar

I like what I'm hearing about Tokyo and would be cool with whatever city.
(I'm out of town this weekend so won't be able to make a char until next week.)

Ryuko - Way of the Adept ok to use?

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

Subject to case by case basis, but likely all yes.

Shadow Lodge

Reading over the concepts presented I see a lot of mages, think I'll switch to an Elven Face type.

Sovereign Court

Going to make a Decker (yes I said Decker, that’s right I'm old school hehe) that is obsessed with pre awakening anime and current. So he stylizes his Matrix personas with them and has focused on blades and many wacky weapons to fit his anime cliché. He gets distracted by his collection and he will work with either team so he will be versatile.

Just want to know your comfort level on matrix stuff? I'm pretty well versed but let me know if you wanna simplify things.

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

I like Matrix runs but they are awfully complicated. As long as you can mostly keep up with your own rules I think I will be alright. Just keep me uodated, things like, tell me number of hits and about how much success that is. I'll learn more as I go but I know the basics.

Since this worked let's do a vote on cities. I'll put up for consideration Berlin, which to my mind is an anarchy with several "governments" constantly vieng for control with violence. Tokyo, as outlined above. Rio, as a hivelike mass of favelas, with bubbles of safe havens in the form of the original cities within the hive. Sydney, whose gimmicks I haven't thought of yet, suggestions? Or the vanilla Seattle setting.

Vote away my players.

Liberty's Edge

I would put berlin as 1 and seattle as 2 and am pretty indifferent to which city beyond that.

Also, I'll be somewhat quiet tomorrow due to my real life game but I'll start whipping up my character tomorrow night or sunday.

Sovereign Court

My vote is: 1. Sydney
2. Seattle
3. Tokyo

Shadow Lodge

1. Berlin
2. Tokyo
3. Rio

Sydney or Rio sound great to me for non-traditional areas, but for ease Berlin or Seattle ar cool, too.

So who is down for the investigators other than myself? If we need some muscle on this team and don't get it from a player who hasn't offered a build yet, I can shift from rigger to walking gun pod.

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

Another update, full lists of chars so far.

Gang Game:
Tarlane: Fixer
Redclover: Technomancer

Investigators:
Bilbo: Dwarf Rigger
Balodek: Elven Face
Khaladon: Troll Mage or Cybersamurai Chica
Fray: Sneak Fight Adept

Undecided:
Roidrage: Decker
Xabulba: ?
Skullcrusha: ?
Imimirtl: ?
Tilnar:?

So Investigators are almost full up, Gang doesn't seem to have as many. Those of you who don't even have a concept go ahead and drop one on me, as well as telling me what team you're on.

Ryuko, you happen to be in the Eastern Hemisphere? I am in Okinawa, Japan and it seems we are on a similar posting schedule.

My character will be a combat mage, recently discharged for abusing his magic in the line of duty.

City's:
1) Rio
2) Tokyo
3) Berlin

I'll jump in the last spot for the investigators.

Sovereign Court

I'll go to either side that needs a Decker on the team, cause my guy can work for either if you want me choose a side let me know. If the gang has the technomancer I would say I'll go for the Investigators but can go gang just as easy.

Nope, in the US, just keep crazy hours. I lurk the boards all day from my phon, but only like to make short posts from it. Like this one.

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

BTW, if we're going to vote with cities I need either a single vote for your favorite, or a list like with the game types. Right now everyone has a bunch of posts saying thier first or second choice, but not more than that.
