My problem is that I can't, in character, act as though the Warden is missing 9 Con points. No one in our party actually knows that, nor do we (at this point) know that there's no possibility of him recovering by morning. No one made their heal check (unless I missed something) and he simply looks tired and acts exhausted. Walthus himself said he thought he'd feel better in the morning.

Given the way Rajah jumped all over Aago (with personal insults, no less!) for simply asking the question we'd been sent there to ask, Aago's not inclined to listen to much of what Rajah has to say, particularly when he seems to be siding with whatever the girl he's been flirting with happens to say.

Aago's not at all difficult to get along with, but the way everyone's been treating him he's about ready to forget the lot of you and get himself killed.

Well, Rajah made a 22 on his Heal check.

Which, especially for a cleric, ought to let him know how serious Walthus' condition is, whether or not there's anything he can do to make it better, and how long it will take for him to get better.

Oops, I did miss that. Well that's a whole other thing then! I agree, that's more than enough to be successful.

Edit to add: In re-reading a larger portion of the posts from the last several days I figured out where my (and especially Aago's)misundertanding comes from. Aago wasn't in the room when Rajah made his successful check. When Aago did go into the room, Rajah never actually said anything concrete to him about how wounded Walthus is; that's why Aago asked Corinna (who was talking about his injuries) about her healing skills. So as far as Aago was concerned in the whole conversation, Walthus was only really tired and needed to get a bit of sleep.

I have a habit of not paying attention to conversations that occur outside of my character's hearing so that I won't accidentally act on information my character doesn't actually have. In this case, that just caused a lot more friction than was probably necessary, so I apologize.

Ah! No, don't stop ignoring conversations you're not privy to. One of my biggest pet peeves is characters getting information they aren't entitled to. I ignore those conversations, too. And as a result, we get an accurate reaction from everybody. I don't think we've had any player friction, just IC hostility, which we can resolve over time.

No problems that I can see.

I think there's been some confusion in general about which characters were where and privy to what information when during this scene. For clarity's sake, Corinna has been upstairs with Gilfroy, Rajah, and Walthus (until Walthus just now went downstairs) ever since Malan sent her up there. So she was in on all the diagnosis but is unaware of the plans of the 3 others to go on to the goblin village by the main road after dark. Aago was downstairs, came up briefly, and then went back down, and Melon has seemingly been popping back and forth between the two places, judging by her replies to things said both up- and downstairs. (Always possible she's been on the staircase itself and listening in on both conversations, since the place isn't that large.)

Male Human Traveler / 8

Yeah, I have that problem too. That's why I try to be clear about exactly where I am and when I am moving from one place to another. I'm going to try and do a better job of it in the future too.

Navior, can you post a rough sketch (in Paint or something) of the trails to Sandpoint, Walthus' and where they've been told the goblin village is? We're clearly still not on the same page here.

Sure thing. I'll try to get one done and up sometime in the next few hours.

As for the location issue, I could try using spoilers for different locations if people prefer. Let me know.

Male Human Traveler / 8

For what it's worth, Nazard, out of character I'm totally on the same page. But if Malan is going on, Aago's going on. Totally in character madness going on here.

Okay I've added a sketch of the Sandpoint Hinterlands to the website.

Note that it's not perfectly to scale. There are also considerably more tributaries to the river than I've actually drawn (it's a marsh after all). As you can see, the goblin village is a lot closer to Walthus's than Sandpoint, but the terrain makes getting to the village take so long. It takes longer to follow the New Fish Trail to Walthus's than it does to get to the trail from Sandpoint. That's why the trip from Sandpoint to the goblin village is faster than the trip from Walthus's to the goblin village. :)

Excellent. It looks great! Thanks!

Thought it would be entertaining for Corinna to remember that snakes certainly manage to climb trees. Stairs are probably not that much of a challenge really.

Corinna's Knowledge (nature) ranks = 0. :) Douena knows it, of course. If Corinna ever learns about the behavior of jungle snakes, she'll be retroactively appalled.

Male Human Traveler / 8

I think it's pretty funny how poor Walthus, who is so exhausted we're taking him back to Sandpoint to get healing, keeps going up and down the stairs. Poor guy.

I know; I keep expecting him to collapse midway. The problem is Navior's keeping the game going by having him go do what he says he's going to do in one post, eliminating the chance for anyone to intervene and say, "No, no, just tell me where it is and I'll go get it. Sit down and rest already!" :)

Well, and I don't think anyone was going to volunteer to go feed the snakes for him. Someone could have carried him down the stairs, though.

Grand Lodge

After re-reading some of the posts, I've decided to tone Malan down a bit. I want him to be arrogant but not truly difficult. As mentioned before, I don't want him to become a problem.

Male Human Traveler / 8

My plan was, once we finally get under way toward Sandpoint, to have Aago try and talk to Malan and give him some good reasons to wait one more night. Of course, I haven't as yet been able to think of any. :)

Well, if he ends up going on to the goblin village by himself, he probably won't be a problem for long... :D

Yeah, I've been trying to come up with an encounter that would convince everyone to go the same way, but I hadn't yet come up with anything! It seemed that to get Malan to go back to Sandpoint, I'd pretty much need to incapacitate him, and to set up an encounter with that as the goal is just plain unfair to the player. But to convince the others to carry on to the goblin village, I'd have to create some new pressing problem or revelation making time of the essence, but anything I could think of seemed more likely to scare Corinna into running back to Sandpoint and never leaving again. :)

Yeah, we sure made a pain in the ass group for you, didn't we?

As I've said before, Aago will not let Malan go on alone. If the elf is going to get killed, the Martial Artist is going too, if only to drag his body back to Sandpoint. But I'm still going to try and talk him out of it.

Edit to add: Just saw the in game thread. Never mind! Dammit, I was hoping Aago would be able to form some sort of common link with Malan by helping to persuade him not to do it. Oh well, missed opportunities and all that rot.

Corinna's motive for doing foolhardy things is supposed to be to impress Sandru, much as Aago is willing to walk into a deathtrap rather than look weak in front of Shalelu.

As Sandru hasn't made an appearance yet, however, she's more concerned with self-preservation than self-image. :)

Yeah, I think I may need to have Sandru make an early appearance in the adventure. :)

Yet another reason to make a change.

Apart from Sandru, Corinna's other motivation to get away is her uncomfortable home life. Hopefully, having her spend some more time with her family will make going into the swamp to hunt goblins in the morning sound like a better idea than staying in the house! :)

There has to be a better Sandru than that, unless you want Corinna's childhood crush to die on the vine when she sees him again. Ew! ;)

Okay, what about this guy (page 24-25ish, now that I've temporarily used him, used 22 times)? Or this guy (page 34, used 48 times)? Or this guy (might be a little clean-cut, page 32, used 36 times)? Or this guy (page 29, used 27 times)?

Okay, okay! I'll switch it! :)

Male Human Traveler / 8

Yeah, that pic is pretty horrendous. I best like the first one Joana chose.

They so need new avatars. It's frustrating to know that they have pictures that are the various NPCs, but you can't use them in PbPs. I'm sure it's been a year since they added any.

It's been well over a year since they last added any new avatars, and yes, it is frustrating. I still can't even get accurate avatars for the Serpent's Skull NPCs.

But Navior, that's still no excuse not to pick avatars with sex appeal. We're the post-MTV generation, we need ourselves something to look at ;)

LoreKeeper wrote:

And so what's your excuse? No offense, but when I look at this avatar of yours, "Hubba hubba!" isn't exactly the first thing I think of.

Whereas my red lizard guy totally has that yellow smokey gaze thing happening.

F/R/W: +2/+1/+2 (+2 vs illusions); AC 12/12/11; CMD: 7; Max HP 10; Current HP 10; Init: +1; Perception: +6; Sense Motive: +5;

Gil will be pleased that at least Melon can appreciate a good joke and has a sense of humour.

Let it be declared, from this time forth, that Gilfroy's mission in this campaign is two-fold: to live to the end of it, and get Malan to crack a smile (without the judicious application of enchantment magic).

Quote:
I presume Gilfroy is using prestidigitation for these summonings?

I've just written it off as narrative prerogative. Prestidigitation at least cannot do that.

Prestidigitation can create small objects. Admittedly, they're supposed to be fairly crude, but there's not much to a cream pie anyway, so I figured that was how he was doing things. I certainly don't have a problem with prestidigitation doing this.

However, I'm a bit uncertain about allowing random magical effects to fall under narrative prerogative. If spellcasters can just create minor effects at whim, it kind of makes spells like prestidigitation pointless. There's a limit to narrative prerogative.

Navior:
With your permission I'd like to shift some of my build points around. I built Malan to max his dex at the cost of his cha. As we play, though, I want to play him as more friendly and outgoing. I'd like to decrease my Dex to 17 and increase Cha to 9.

Dax:
That will be fine. Go ahead.

Are we waiting on anything in particular? A marching order so that you know exactly who triggers the ambush which is obviously waiting for us since you bothered making a map? :)

Corinna will stay toward the back but doesn't want to be the last in line in case we get jumped from behind. She and Gilfroy in the back with the mule, Malan and Aago up front, Melon and Rajah in the middle?

Gilfroy is up near the front. Indeed, Walthus and Aago probably jeep having to call him back.

Corinne and Rajah in the back then?

Grand Lodge

Malan stays behind Aago with his bow at the ready.

My apologies for the pause the last few days. Every time I've tried to sit down to get the map ready for the next bit, something has intruded. We shall resume shortly.

Well, the gloves are off for this AP. We have a DM who's not only cold-hearted enough to kill a PC's beloved childhood pet but then puts it on a stake for her to find. Hollywood will happily kill off hundreds of human beings in a disaster movie without blinking an eye, but the family dog always survives. ;)

Grand Lodge

He killed the dog? And put it on a stake! That's it, I'm going to put on my big boy pants. You're in for it now pal.

Bwahahahahahahaha! ;)

Dax; no peeking by anyone else on pain of your character's death :):
Chuffy is hiding just outside the other door to the hut (in square N 58). You are welcome to control his actions if you like. He will go first in Round 2, just before the other goblins. :)

Grand Lodge

Navior:
I jumped up and squealed like a schoolgirl when I read that post. Of course I would love to control him. My plan right now is to try and get the gnome if I can. Chuffy will wait patiently for an opportune time to attack.
Question: Is he still 1st level?
Question: Does he have any fireworks left?

Hehehe.

Dax:
Chuffy is still 1st level. He does not have any fireworks left (they were used up on the skeletons). He still has gorge of gluttons, however.
Since Rajah is delaying, Chuffy's turn is up. If you'd like him to take an action that will reveal his presence, go ahead and post it in the game thread. If you'd like him to do something that will keep him hidden for now, post it in this thread in a spoiler.

Dax:
I'm just going to assume Chuffy is delaying for now. Feel free to have him jump in at any point.

Grand Lodge

Navior:
Even though he'd really like to get to the gnome, Chuffy will take the opportunity to sneak attack the first one to come close enough.
Gorge of Gluttons: sneak attack
to hit 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 damage 1d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + (2) = 5
confirm crit:
to hit 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 damage 1d4 ⇒ 1
Here's a stealth roll to get closer to get better position to attack one of the longshanks.
Stealth: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (18) + 16 = 34

Male Human Traveler / 8

All this hush hush talk is awfully suspicious...I think Malan is conspiring to kill us all!

Grand Lodge

Not Malan. He's the picture of solidarity. It was that goblin, I swear.
