I organize Megacon and we are planning a big Pathfinder presence there.
Dom, since Hurricon I have gathered a regular group of seven (including myself with two alternating DMs) who have been playing almost every weekend... we are planning on bringing at least four of us to Megacon and I am working on getting folks signed up on Warhorn. Looking forward to it!

Just moved to the area and I'm glad there's a Pathfinder presence. New to the system, and I'm hoping to game soon.
Email sent.

I dropped an email to the address a few weeks back. Is this group still up and running?
Cheers!

Which major metro area are you in/near? Dominick is in the Tampa area and I am in Palm Beach County. MegaCon is comming up, if you didn't know about that (in Orlando). www.megaconvention.com

We have a small group and we have been averaging one organized play session a week over the last three months or so. We have four(!) active DMs and are now rotating DM duties as we see fit. The episodic nature of the organized play scenarios works well for us. Some members of our group will be going to MegaCon in February.
My advice, "LoneCleric", is to check meetup.com and see if there are any RPG groups in your area. From there, you could form your own small group of people interested in doing organized play... it's not easy, but it can be done.
There are also people running some organized play over Google+. If you can't find locals to play with, it's an option. Good luck and keep an eye on this thread. Also, if you can make MegaCon, try to network there and get to know folks in your area.

A bit north of Orlando and have been using Meetup.com a bit but so far have only found 3.5 homebrews or groups comprised of really immature players that cannot be bothered to pay attention. With Orlando being a larger city and Pathfinder exceeding other RPGs in sales, I thought it would be easier to find a Pathfinder group.
Have one iron in the fire so all hope is not lost. :)
Definitely excited for Megacon. I'm from Chicago so the idea of great comic/gaming cons down here too is exciting.

So you know there is a group of us that play in Sebastian, and most of the players are in Melbourne who car pool out my way.
Well, I had a group in Melbourne, but it was a school crowd. My hours changed and half the people went home for the summer. My second group lost half the team and I again had my hours change. But that's with non-organized play.
My issue is I'm not a fan of organized play, but would LOVE open gaming at Cons. I guess Necrocon is the closest I'll find to say crazy open gaming you'd find at Dragon or Gencon. That is so say I'm not open to organized play. I'll have to check out Megacon's events this year, might have something I'm interested.
What would really get me motivated is if we had a dedicated Game Day style event like Necro has but in Orlando. I could see myself getting out there for that. (1 hour commute is a lot less punishing than a 3 one.)

I'm also a Windy City transplant. :-) Chicago is blessed with sheer density of people and the Great Lakes region seems to be a haven for gaming of all kinds. There *are* gamers here in Florida, but you have to hunt a bit to find them.

Well the group I am in is just some guys I am friends with. We meet every other weekend.
I am sure there are a lot of groups that are playing their own home-brew Pathfinder games or using the Pathfinder rules in other campaign worlds (Greyhawk, FR, Eberon, etc. etc.) and are perfectly happy without worrying about things like recruiting new players or doing Organized Play.
And that is not just fine, it's *awesome* that you can say your play with your friends. :-) When you go to a convention for Organized Play, it's a crap shoot if you will even like anyone else at the table. You're blessed to have good friends to play with.
Punisher75, where is your group located? (Just idle curiosity.) I like this thread 'cause it helps get a picture of Florida gaming in general.

Oh we are down in Sebastian about an hour and a half south east of Orlando, and about 25 minutes south of Melbourne/Palm Bay

I sent an email as well but never received a reply. I signed up with PFS so I can play at MegaCon. I hope to meet people there.

Edit: Is there an "official" PFS Venture-Person/contact for the Central FloriDUH?
Yes, the official Venture Captain for Florida (out of the Tampa Bay area) is Mike Griffin-Wade (Herald on the boards). Mike is fairly busy atm and I am a good back-up official contact as the Venture Lieutenant. I'm also much cuter than he is. :)
Dominick (earlier in thread) is also an excellent Central Florida resource.
I am based out of Tampa (Clearwater, actually), but will range up to Pasco, down to Sarasota or out as far as Orlando to support PFS. I can offer emotional and organizational support for anyone in the great, crazy Sunshine State and will be running all kinds of games at MegaCon and highly recommend attending to anyone who is looking to meet other Central Florida players.
Email me anytime with questions at: tampabaypathfinder (at) gmail (dot) com
You can also check out our local chapter's PFS Meetup page at:
www.meetup.com/Tampa-Bay-Pathfinder-Society There is no big umbrella location on the web yet, but we may head in that direction as the PFS scene develops here.

Also should have mentioned:
If you live in Florida and are looking for PFS, let me know. We may be able to help get something started in your area, even if we cannot physically attend your sessions.
There are LOTS of gamers in Florida, but not a lot of long-standing organizations to support us. We are working on that. :)
Game on!

So as long as this thread is here, the web sites seem to have conflicting information for Megacon, so maybe someone here can give a clarification.
The Megacon web site says that it begins at 1 PM on Friday, February 17, yet the Warhorn gaming schedule has two sessions listed for Thursday, February 16 and one listed for 9 AM Friday, February 17. That's 3 sessions of gaming that are scheduled to take place before the convention actually begins.
Anyone know what's up with that?

The vendors floor, media appearances, etc begin on Friday - the Con proper. Gaming begins on Thursday for those who are interested and available. Gaming is only a subset of the overall con.

Does that mean that there will be badge processors present to scan pre-registrations on Thursday? (I can't make it til Friday, but I am just wondering.) What I am driving at is this- if gamers show up on Thursday, will the main entrance be open even if the Con hasn't "officially" begun? Do they need to go to a side door, or will there be someone there to greet/process and direct people?

EDIT- I just want to amend this post with a big *thanks* to all those who are working to make MegaCon's PFS events a success!

I open the RPG floor early. The CON management is cool with it. I will admit anyone who preregisters on Warhorn on Thursday.
http://warhorn.net/megacon-2012/
Kristie is going to run some VC/VL only events there.
WhiskeyJack:
I think they will preprocess badges on Thursday night, before 5PM. Mostly they are there for vendor loadout. We are usually the only ones there. Under the old system, I was able to pick up badges for the friday 9AM players, I will check with mangement if thats the case.
Thanks for the kudos, Zac who is the PFS head judge, and I appreciate it.
For anyone interested, we have a few Yahoogroups for Florida regions. If I get a few Amens, I will post the list here.

Thanks for the quick response, Dom. I am really looking forward to the Con. I wish I could make it for Thursday, but I can't... it's awesome though that you squeezing an extra "unofficial" day out for folks who can make it though!
