Alright, so let's get this show on the road! Let me summarise what we've decided so far.

Players
Ævux - Darche Schneider (Kincade/Felpurr? Alchemist)
Saint Caleth - Coross Kelson (Human Magus)
Qi - Frum Cruss (Gnome Rogue)
Shane Gifford - Zachary McDonald (Tiefling Sorcerer)
Yucala - Lucca (Human Inquisitor)
Edgar Lamoureux - Skender Ruggova (Human Soulknife)
Harmor - ??? (??? Cleric)

Start of Adventure
In the adventure academy (name to be decided upon), the researcher Frum Cruss has been studying odd minerals in a cave system at the root of the mountain. Having shared the fruits of his research with Professor Schneider, the two of them have managed to arrange an expedition with four of the school's pupils: Zachary, Skender, Lucca and Coross. However, the terms of condition for the expedition is that one of the school's healers join them. ??? (Harmor) was equally interested in this mysterious foundings, and joins them in this expedition.

(just the generic prologue)

Known facts
All characters have a crystal each - they are all eeriely similar.

I might have missed something, but I am admittedly a little tired, heh. Feel free to remind me.

Male Tiefling (specifically, Glabreezu tainted) Abyssal Sorcerer 1

I believe Lucca isn't a student, just someone who came to the academy because the voices in his head told him to.

Male Elan Vitalist 10

Field trip time! Tonight, we dine in Hell! Or at least in the caves outside the Academy.

Zachary McDonald wrote:

Hm. Lucca, could you clarify why you're at the academy if you're not a student?

Male Elan Vitalist 10

Lucca is not only a student, he shares a dorm with Coross and I.

I just want to make sure that the Kincade is balanced and such before I convert my characters stats to it.

Ævux wrote:

I wouldn't say the Kincade is overpowered - still maybe a little weak, but that's about it.

What suggestions would you have for them?

And I'll start converting over now

Ævux wrote:

I have no clue - I'm not experienced with race creation. I'll let you retcon any future changes if you want to - as long as it isn't "suddently convenient."

Well converted.

I know the first alchemist discovery I'm taking too, Tentacle. If we can, I'd rather treat it as a tail rather than a slimy octopus arm.

Ævux wrote:

Heh, I don't mind. Prehensile tails are awesome and it adds flavour without changing much, right?

yeah, no changes to it mechanically. Just not a slimy octopus arm. Eww. :P

The Exchange

Male Human Bard 1/Barbarian 1

Patcher, do you mind if I switch around a couple points? I just realized that I wanted more Wis. If you say no, it's cool. What I want the Wis for only might come into play, and that would be in a few levels.

Edit: Nevermind, I'm fine.

Male Human Cleric 1

I'll finalize my character tonight. Only change would be to take Memory Subdomain in the APG and buying all my gear.

M human Inquisitor 1 (Domain Trickery)
Zachary McDonald wrote:

I'm a student. A relatively new student, maybe I didn't go through all the technical legalities to join- but I am a student.

And I'll have you know that there aren't voices in my head. There's a Voice. One. And it didn't tell me to come, we decided on it- together. Mostly, I decided on it.

I'm happy with it.

Rafael Ler'it is a researcher and under-professor at the academy. At 28 he is an accomplished librarian in religious, arcane, history, and the planes. He stumbled upon the crystals while exploring the ruins of a temple. He has since been enthralled with crystals, so much so that his divine connection has been altered.

The Pathfinder Chronicle I'm carrying are all my notes I believe I need during this expedition. Not sure which Knowledge (knowledge Arcane perhaps), it should add a bonus to or if you want to just say its related to the crystals?

Here's the description:

Pathfinder Chronicle
Cost 50 GP
Category Adventuring Gear
Weight 1lb

Numerous volumes and editions of the Pathfinder Chronicle exist. When used as a reference (an action typically takes 1d4 full rounds of search the text), a Pathfinder Chronicle grants a +2 circumstance bonus on a specific Knowledge check. Each Pathfinder Chronicle grants this bonus to a different type of Knowledge, but regardless of which type that particular chronicle is focused on, the overall cost of the book remains the same.

Male Human Cleric 1

Done although I forgot to apply my Campaign Trait; will program that in tomorrow.

Donte and I will be ready to leave the Academy tomorrow. Now, where did I put that brush?

I just realised I forgot to shove "OOC thread" into the topic title. I'm a moron.

I'll whip up the adventure's beginning soon. I just woke up. My mind is a little hazy.

Can I ask what timezone you're all in? I'm GMT +1 / CET.

GMT-5/EST.

Shane Gifford/ Zachary McDonald is also in EST.

Also, for the next few days, and a few days next week, I have school. While I may periodically check in, provided I have the chance, I won't be able to stay on for any extended period of time.

I was just teasing you about the voices, crazy. Though thanks for clarification on your student status; you said before that you were staying in the dorm, so I guess that should have given it away to me.

Mountain time.

GMT-7 for me. Same for Aevux
GMT-8 for Harmor

I'll be able to stay on for extended periods of time after 2 pm EST, just not earlier in the day. After that, I've got like another 8 hours.

Male Human Witch 2

GMT-8 (Pacific Time) for the next few months, but after that I will be moving to GMT+8. So while I'll still have the same amount of time to devote, it will just be at a slightly different time.

I apologise for the delay in getting a topic up, the heat is giving me a proper headache alongside RL bull. I'll get one up as soon as I can.

It's all good.

That would be Pacific Time. AKA GMT -8

Adventure has begun.

I apologise for the delay - today has been terrible for me.

Am going to bed shortly, so I won't reply until the morrow.

Do enjoy the adventure!

If you guys want to host an image for others to see I use these two free services:

ImageShack - http://www.imageshack.us/
imgur - http://imgur.com/

I don't know what tools you guys use for mapping, I found a couple but not sure which is best.

Male Human Cleric 1

@DM Patcher: Will you be keeping 'handouts' in your GM profile for us like this?

Male Human Cleric 1

Is there any use for me to keep a map?

I've seen other threads use something very basic like Excel sheets.

I'm curious what others have experienced or what is best practice or preference?

Oh and these are the maps sites I found:

http://www.yeoldemapmaker.com/

http://www.profantasy.com/

http://www.dungeonographer.com/

I already mimick DM Zyren's style in regards of profiles (In fact, I'm Nieve in that very profile you linked). The question is if I have time to make maps and such - and if I'll make maps of sufficient quality. I'll look into it - though right now I just woke up and I always need an hour or so to activate that part of my brain.

Male Elan Vitalist 10

I'll be back on in about two hours.

Rafael, I just now realised you asked if you could map it out (I think) - by all means, I would appreciate it (and correct you when necessary)

Random fun fact: Snöfjell Mountain is redundant because Snöfjell means Snow Mountain.

Male Elan Vitalist 10

I, just now, realized that Skender has a hooded lantern, so I had him take it out. It provides a bit more illumination than torches or the light spell.

Male Human Cleric 1

I'd gladly map, but you'll need to provide dimensions so I can make it accurate, unless you want me to just 'ballpark' it?

Have you tried any of those links above? They will allow you to create maps pretty quickly. There's also a free one on WoTC's website.

Tomorrow I'll be busy in the evening. I will be able to post tomorrow morning if its brief. I then won't be able to post until early Saturday morning.

Its 9:22pm when I wrote this.

@All: A quick way to find the next post is to go to your character's profile, click on the Posts tab and then click on the Time next to your name. This will take you to that post instead of trying to find the post in the list of other posts in the main discussion threads.

Male Elan Vitalist 10

That's too bad. Shane and I have an IRL campaign Saturday, from 4pm-12am EST. We'll be completely hung up that whole time, and probably a few hours later, as well. Other than that we'll still be fine overall, it's just every other Saturday.

Male Human Cleric 1

I submitted the maps to the DM to review (that's why they are in DM only spoilers). Once DM Patcher approves them she'll show us - we been going back and forth making sure everything is in the correct location.

We think we have everything setup correctly for the start of Round 02.

Bare with us as we get used to all this.

The map Legend is pretty obvious; luckily each of our characters start with a different letter.

When moving your character please keep the format as follows:

Rafael moves from L-8 to K-8
or
Rafael moves from L8 to J7 then to G7

99% of the time it should be clear that you'll avoid AoO, but if its not clear be sure add additional coordinates to your moves.

If anyone is curious, I started using http://www.yeoldemapmaker.com/ but I still had to bring the image into Corel Paint Shop Pro to add our names. So I said, screw it and just created a new PSPIMAGE from scratch.

Layer: Info
Layer: Enemies
Layer: Players
Layer: Environment
Layer: Map Indexes
Layer: Mat

Everything is on a separate layer and is a vector so I can re-edit it. Since I full control of the image I can add whatever we want (like fireballs, lava, water hazards, etc...).

I can still use the yeoldmapmaker images and just add them as layers to our existing one as needed.

Map is correct now - thank you very much, Rafael!

My pleasure.

If you guys have any suggestions on what we should add to the map then please let me know.

Also because I haven't asked, we are not using fumbles, correct? I highly suggest we do not.

I don't know, I've rolled to confirm both times just in case.

I'm finally making up for my IRL dice rolls, I guess. the laws of mathematics win again.

Depends on what you define as a fumble. If it is "horrible consequence besides missing" then I'd say no.

Rafael, just waiting for you to post your actions before we finish round 2.

DM Patcher wrote:

No confirmation rolls needed then?

Awesome.

Male Human Cleric 1

Do you guys like the map like this with white circles for us or with our portraits like this?

I can also put an image for the creatures we fight, but if we do then I can't label them (too small) and you would have to describe which one you're hitting if its not obvious (e.g. I'm hitting the enemy in N9 with my bow, vs. I'm hitting E4 with my bow).

Also do you guys prefer a more "battlemat" approach or a more realistic approach to the map? I can add much more detail like Cavern walls that actually look like a cavern wall instead of a straight thick line?

Really the sky is the limit - don't ask me to make animated gifs - they take too long to make.

I personally prefer the portraits, though it'll ultimately be up to the players.

Thanks for posting, Rafael, I'll get round 3 agoing.

Male Human Cleric 1

How did you post to this thread so fast? Do you get emails of it or something?
