Golarion Illuminated

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

The first two episodes of Golarion Illuminated are available for humanoid consumption! Heck, you don't even have to be humanoid, even a Gelatinousness Cube can enjoy these looks into the history and culture of Golarion!

Though either of us are new to role playing, we're both (relatively) new to the setting of Golarion, so Michael thought it'd be a fun idea to explore the world via vodcast. We've got a some more going through the editing process right now, and we're hoping to bring them to you about one ever week or so.

Please feel free to give them a viewing and leave feedback if you want! Thanks!

While done nicely and pretty intresting, it isn't usable as an information podcast on Golarion as:
- Take notes and prepare as if auditioning. There are several points you try to vover "in depth" (for a video that short at least) where your podcast doesnt't reflect the information found in the World Guide. The best example is you talk about Aroden as the god of prophecy (he isn't and wasn't) for quite some time, even using ist to lead to the next chapter.

Please, don't misunderstand me. I like your Idea and your presentation at large, and I sure don't mind some glitches (it is your world, too, after all) from official material, but if something you talk about for a comparatively large amount of a podcast presents "wrong" information, it isn't going to be helpful for any other player/gamemaster (if that is your intention), so those parts should be better prepared.

Still, good efford, nice presentation, I'd like to see more.

Dark Archive

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Just watched the first one, it was interesting.

Just listened to the first one. No, no, no, no, no! Earthfall comprised a shower of rocks from space (see 'Azlant', on page 211 in the current Inner Sea Guide) of which the Starstone was one which happened to go astray, and rather than sinking Azlant, Earthfall blasted rather a lot of holes in it... (See the continental sketch map on page 204 of the Inner Sea Guide. NB: this was still sufficient to pretty much finish off the Azlanti empire however).

Okay, Aroden was the first to ascend to divinity by Starstone in Golarion history, but there are some others who've achieved it by other means - for example Irori and Nethys are mortals who've done so according to their brief Inner Sea Guide entries (pages 222 and 223), although I don't know if there's a date on either of these ascensions.

As a further note, if you can get hold of a copy of the first edition of the Campaign Setting, whilst some of the information therein is now out of date, Appendix B has a pronunciation guide which you may find useful if you're unsure regarding 'official' pronunciations of some words.

Finally, if you need to check up particular Paizo-y details, Tuesday night, 20:00 Paizo Standard Time (or Pacific Standard Time if you prefer it that way) usually sees someone like James Jacobs dropping by to answer questions in the Paizo Chatroom. The chatroom was established by the Demon Queen of Victuals, Lilith, and was originally 'unofficial'. I'm not sure if it remains unofficial given she works at Paizo HQ now though... :D

PS
Congratulations on your enthusiasm though, and being willing to sit in front of a camera and then having the courage to put it on the web for all and sundry to make posts like this about it grumbling about stuff... ;)

Indeed. It's a "learn as we go" type of thing, and we're planning on doing some type of corrections episode for all the crap that we'll get wrong. Nothing (at this point) is supposed to be covered to deeply, it's aimed more for people that want to get a brief introduction to whatever subject we're talking about. Of course, this means accuracy is key and we'll always be striving to improve on that. Overall though, its a fun thing for us, that we hope will be a fun thing for others, and thanks very much for watching and the feedback!

Awesome, I did not know that (Well, I knew it was a shower but I thought that there was one huge chunk of rock in the storm....)

Yeah, that was totally my bad. I found that out a few days after it got posted. We're hoping to do a corrections episode at some point....

Oh thankyouthankyouthankyou. I'll try to get that before we film the next one(s).

I'll check that out and pass the word on the Michael.

Thanks, to be honest it was all his idea. I was totally hesitant about posting about it on here, but then I realized that this is also suppose to my way of learning more about the world and I'm not going learn more without feedback. Thanks for taking the time to watch it!

I see you've decided to brave the boards with this.

Thank goodness the folk here (in general) are so nice.

Yeah luckily this is one of the happier places on the internet. Micheal asked me to do this after he posted the second episode, but I wanted to wait until we had a couple more filmed. We'll be always trying to improve. Thanks for the feedback you left!

Hey all --

This is Michael. So far, thanks for all the feedback. I assumed we were getting things wrong & really wanted feedback about that, but so far nothing from the YouTube community. I'm so glad people on here are helpful with the feedback (I'm not being sarcastic, either; I WANT to get this stuff right).

Getting ready for work as I glance through this; the only comment I have a problem with so far is:

"Okay, Aroden was the first to ascend to divinity by Starstone in Golarion history" from Charles Evans. Charles, if you watch the video you'll note I put a caption on there to note exactly what you said (if you're just listening to it, that's probably why you didn't notice it, and it'll still be brought up in our first "errata" video).

Again, though, overall, THANK YOU guys so much. Any suggestions for future 'casts? My hard drive got fried recently (part of why a couple have taken so long) so I lost my notes I was keeping with ideas, but the two I remember are "evil things in Golarion" and then just more recaps of nations. Anything you think would be great for new players, etc.? (The next couple are about the factions for Organized Society Play)

Also, that's awesome there's a pronunciation guide somewhere. Odd the PF wiki doesn't include those.

The ones that have pages should mostly include the pronunciation - if particular pages don't, feel free to add it (as well as a reference tag)

Ah, I see now that some of them do have pronunciations. I checked out Sovyrian Stone & maybe one other, saw they didn't, and assumed there were none at all. Again, that whole problem with assuming.

I really liked your idea and how you are dealing with that... thanks a lot and please make it a regular podcast. It's very useful to ear Golarion explained in another way from gamers...
For what concerns mistakes (more then justified in my opinion) they are not a problem for me until you'll be able to keep a correction part at the beginning (or the end) of each new episode reporting also suggestions that will be made by fans on the messageboard.

Sovereign Court

Again, thanks for all of the overall positive comments. Two new entries are now up. We'd love to hear what you think.

Thanks,

Michael

I really enjoyed watching it. Keep it up!

I'm enjoying watching this! Kind of makes me want to do a podcast, actually!

Keep up the good work.

Sovereign Court

very nice; i shared it with all my fellow gamers
well done!
keep doing it!

Just curious where a link to the chat is? At one point I would pop in every now and then and... well lurk mostly, but occasionally banter. But work got in the way. I have Tuesday evenings off a little more often now and so would like to start popping back in.

Here's a link to the chat right in front of you.

This seems to be it.

(For some reason Kajehase your link is just pointing back to the Paizo Main Page....)

That's... weird. I only recall typing in the chat-address.

Anyway, it's chat.dmtools.org

Thanks Kajehase and Abbasax. I think I pop into the chat tomorrow night.
