Eidolon Weapon Use

Rules Questions

Hi folks,

i thought about playing a summoner, and i have some questions about the eidolon.

How exactly does the use of weapons work?

The Limb evolution adds a pair of limbs with hands but no extra attack.
But the only things i can add are claws, slams etc.

So how exactly would i increase the number of attacks made with weapons and what melee bonis/penalties would apply for each additional attack after the first?

Lets say i want a angel-like biped eidolon with 2 pair of limbs.
BAB is 4 with Strength 16.

What would be neccessary to have 4 attacks say with 2 longswords and 2 short swords?

That would really help.
Thanks!

EDIT:

I looked a little further and it seems i need to take the monster feat multiweapon-attack for this to work, right?
So Martial Weapon proficiency and multiweapon fighting would be required to wield say 2 longswords and 2 short swords.

What about greatswords? Could i take 3 pairs of limbs and attack with 3 greatswords? If yes, what melee bonus would they have, because there is no "off-hand" fighting involved. Right?

Regardless of the number of limbs, you only have 1 primary attack, all others are considered offhand. The type of weapon your swinging does not affect this.

If any of your offhand weapons are not a light weapon, you take an additional -2 to all your attacks. Also, all offhand weapons receive only 1/2 strength bonus to damage. You might manage a great sword as your primary, but your better off sticking to short swords (or other light weapons) for all secondary weapons.

It should also be noted: it takes 4 evolution points for an eidolon to gain proficiency with all martial weapons. Consider spending one of your eidolon's feats for a single weapon proficiency (say Wakizashi) and use that for all weapons.

So it would be more effective to take one Greatsword as primary attack, wait for multiattack and take a few natural claw attacks instead of weapons?

As i can follow from the forums and the summoner handbook, the greatsword gets more attacks as BAB increases.

So on level 5(and Multiattack as feat) i could use one greatsword attack, and 4 claw attacks, the latter with a -2 penalty on attack roles.

Would that be accurate?

For example:

Level 5, evolution pool 8:

Biped, with increased damage(claws) for 1 point, 2 extra pairs of limbs(arms) for 4 points, claws (x2) for 2 points, and lets say increased strength(1 point).

BAB would be 4 + 4 because of strength 19.

Attacks would be +8 Greatsword 4x +6 Claws 1d6+4

Scarab Sages

The increased strength costs 2 points. You can still manage it if you take the feat extra evolution or are a half-elf. Otherwise, drop the improved damage.

When using multiattack, your off hand attacks still have a -2 to-hit and only get 1/2 str.

You would have:

Greatsword +8 (2d6 +4/19-20/x2)
Claws(x4) +6 (1d6 +2/20/x2)

You have to spend a feat to get multiattack at 5th level (as opposed to waiting until 9th level when it is a bonus feat). You also have to spend a feat for the greatsword proficiency.

In all honesty, you would get more damage using those feats to take power attack and pick up eldritch claws at level 7.

Hmm..so it would be better to work with claws until Level 9 and then think about using a weapon.

Thanx..will have to look into it further.

Hi again,

i have another question regarding a weapon wielding eidolon.

Lets assume the eidolon has taken Limbs x3 and 2x claws.
So the eidolon would have 4 primary attacks with claws.
Assume further, that the eidolon possesses a weapon proficieny, say martial.

Now my question:

If the eidolon would wield a weapon(i.e. a greatsword), the claw attacks would be reduced to secondary attacks, with a -5 penalty. That much is clear. But what about if the eidolon is NOT wielding the weapon? Would the claw attacks then resume their primary attack status as long as the eidolon does not wield a manufactured weapon?

Thanks!

Correct, The Full attack without using the Manufactured Weapon does use the claws as primary attacks, without penalty.

Cool, thanx! :)

Also remember that secondary attacks only get 1/2 the Strength bonus on damage rolls and benefit less from Power Attack. That makes them much less useful once you start running into creatures with DR.

You can bump damage on oFf hands attack with dual slice: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/double-slice-combat---final
