[UItimate Magic] What's new on traps?

Product Discussion

Hi all,

I'm really looking forward to receiving my copy of ultimate magic, but since I'm in Europe it hasn't arrived yet... I'm really curious to find out what new traps, trap-feats, trap-class skills or anything trap focussed is in the new book. Care to share some info about what's new?

Ranger archetype drops their spellcasting for making traps, supernatural &/or extraordinary. I believe there is also a feat that allows others to pick up some of these traps as well. Some very cool traps mentioned, I'm itching to make a kobold ranger/trapper. :)

Question, does the ranger trapper bonus to perception stack with a rogue's bonus to perception? If not, what "type" of bonus are they?

It's the same ability as the rogue's trapfinding, untyped, so it'll stack just like having sneak attack from multiple classes.

Sounds cool, i was planning on making an urban ranger, but this sounds better. What are the class skills for the new ranger and does he get trapfinding at 1st?

Can't wait to see the new traps. Are the feats for making and/or disabling?

It's hard to explain in just a couple of sentences. It's more about creating traps from a list of traps you can do, than building the traps in the Core Rulebook.

I was reading this and wondering why the ranger gets all the cool traps. Do rogues have any special traps just for them? Can they only uses the ranger traps if they take the feat that lets them? (I do not recall the name atm).

And is there any one place that they have all the traps listed?

This system was made specifically for rangers, and is a set of magical traps that the (magical) ranger class can create. Other characters can access it, and there's no reason why you couldn't build a similar system of (nonmagical) traps for rogues, but for Ultimate Magic, the focus was on the magical classes.

There is a chance for a mundane trapmaker rogue in UC, Sean?

I don't think that's on the outline for UC, no... but it would be pretty easy to create your own archetype that got it. Heck, it might be an even swap to say "pick a nonmagical ranger trap as a rogue talent."

Nice.

Even if I had something completely different in mind. Gnomish springtraps, razorsharp cords able to be quickly fixed on walls, booby traps. Maybe stuff difficult to built on the spot, but carefully prepared to spring if placed by expert hands.

Something to improve the Trapsmith and complement nicely the Cunning Trigger talents.

The rest is nice alchemical items and ingenuity from the Rogue's part. And caltrops. never forget caltrops :P

Thank you for your answer ^_^
