Role Playing an Inquisitor

Carrion Crown

Sovereign Court

Im playing an inquisitor in the carrion crown. While Ive played RPGs for a while Im struggling with the role playing of an inquisitor for any of the gods of pathfinder.

Game mechanics I have no problem with. Its the why am I here, part ie the back ground and personal motivation. Also I have not picked a god yet. Suggestion??? Also if Mr. Reynolds is looking at the boards what would you suggest for Pharasma?? Thanks

For motivation, I suppose the quick answer is that Lorrimor summoned you via his will, and that your character knows him in some manner or other.

However, I don't think this alone is good enough for having your Inquisitor in the game. Is your inquisitor more of a monster-slayer? Perhaps he heard of weird happenings around the county of Canterwall, or walking dead, necromancers, and people that need saving. Or is your inquisitor more of a zealous, church-enemy hunter?

Pharasama is a good choice, is her worship is prevalent in Ustalav, and you can ask your DM about the church (as its detailed a bit more in the second adventure path). In short, Pharasma despise the undead and the creation thereof, as it denies the souls true judgement in the afterlife.

You could base your inquisitor off Van Helsing from the 2003 movie - someone destroying enemies of the church for religious/personal salvation; perhaps your character sinned against his/her religion, and became a inquisitor for penance.

Hope this helps. :)

Ok, so, I have an inquisitor of pharasma, and have beem struggling with some of the same issues.

My inquisitor is currently 4th level in the Carrion Crown adventure path.

I did base him loosely on van helsing, (kinda of a combo of the 2003 movie and bram stokers dracula, with that version as well)

He's an undead hunter/specialist.

He's human (I was going to base him off hellboy and make him a tiefling) and I took amateur gunslinger and gunsmithing as my first two feats.

RP wise, the main thing to remember about inquisitors vs. Paladins or Clerics is, there is no chain of command, no high priest, no earthly man to answer to, it's you, your moral code and the deity your have sworn to.

that's the big difference.

For a campaign trait, my character chose "on the payroll" (in fact our entire party did, as Lorimor has hired our party in the past for a minor single day expedition, which explained how we knew eachother)
Which means, that the reason the Professor knew me/us is that he had hired us before. We are a monster hunting party in general (a Witch, A barbarian with werewolf blood, An alchemist and my inquisitor) which is why Lorimor had summoned us via his will, because he knew we were set up for the kind of challenge he was bequething us.
He knew alot of people but called us out on the mission.

Whatever your campaign trait is, you can fudge it a bit to strengthen your relationship with the professor and the reason for your character to be here.

Alternatively, depending on what your trait is, you could have been called to attend this funeral by the will, have no idea why you are here, and really have no connection to the plot whatsoever, and just get caught up in the goings on...
