I'm curious, what tense do you usually roleplay in? I mean, present tense is logical, but I'm very much used to writing in past tense. Find it preferrable when writing fiction.
I assume this is more of a judgement call? In my first post I stuck with past tense prior to meeting and present once interacting. It's silly, I know, but I must admit to not being the most confident (especially since I'm new) so I figure some input could help ease my mind.
Also, Art will refer to Ember as "Kitten". Just because it's affectionate (and probably annoying :D)

I will most likely be doing past tense or present tense depending on the situation. Its hard to figure out for me sometimes :P

Hey Patcher you mentioned you created Art inspired by Varric of DA2. I hope you realize that he was my fav character from that game.
I am watching you 0_0
Bwahaha. Yeah, I suppose there are some similarities. Add some Isabela and the character should be easy to "see". Though I hope to shift it over into a unique character during the course of this roleplay.

(chuckle)
Just adding up the weight of the pack and gear, that puts poor Ember under a medium load.
I guess she can keep up with the other 20' round players, but she isn't happy. :(
And I'm enjoying the nickname of "Kitten". Especially since I'm sure as a child her tactic of clawing at bullies would have resulted in wounds just like you would get from tangling with a cat.

No one said you had to KEEP all your gear in your own pack :) If you need help you should be able to ask others to take a bit of your load.
Generally I dont worry too much about weight. I probably should though >.> it makes more sense and makes things a bit more realistic. I think we shall enforce the encumberence rules for this game for now, but I may change my mind later.
I can do that, cause I am the DM! :O Booya!

Ember V |

I don't mind if you enforce encumberance or not, I will on my character anyway.
That's one of the flaws that I built into her (she has no strength), and I'm going to play it.
She'll keep up the brave front in front of the town, but she's going to mention it after we get out of town... either that of stagger on trying to keep her pride, and lagging behind.
Either way, it will be RP fun.

Awh, don't be nervous. Am enjoying it so far. Figures that the backpack puts me at a medium load too. And I have a sneaking suspicion we can't just slant it over to Gael (the strongest party member) since she's clad in armour.
Then again, I played a Bard once who was a scholar with a bunch of really heavy books. When combat started he simply dropped his scholarly robes to the ground (his books were strapped to the inside walls of the robes) so he fought in light load. It's possible to just drop the backpacks mid-combat if the encumbrance becomes too much of a problem.

You could drop the backpacks yes, but that means unless you are carrying your potions in belt pouches or sacks you wont have em with you :P
Its not the perfect solution and IF you guys do that then I am gonna have to have you list what object is where on your sheets ;)
Also, if there are any lurkers lurking about lurkily, feel free to chat in here I don't mind, as long as it doesnt get super disruptive!

Ember V |

You're doing fine, DM Stompinator. I'm having fun.
And a belt pouch is the only thing I've bought. Somehow, I haven't seen Ember as needing lots of gear.
If you would allow, I could have bought a CLW potion. If not, that's OK too, as I wasn't figuring to need all that much.

The axe could be slipped through a loop on the backpack, the crossbow hung from one. I was going to offer a sample of weight distribution formatting, but it seems Art beat me to it. Still, one of my characters from another PBP: Taelin.
As a note, stalking DM Stompinator since he's doing the same to me. :P

Haha I have seen other games you have been DMing ;) SO HA! :O I have the advantage SIR.

That could work, if not for the whole "discarding the backpack in a fight" aspect. Dual-wielding a light crossbow and battleaxe doesn't really strike me as very convenient, haha.
But thanks for the insight and ideas.

DM Stompinator |

Haha I forgot you guys where new
there are a bunch of commands:
[ b ] BOLD [ /b ]
[ i ] ITALIC [ /i ]
[ ooc ] Out of Character [ /ooc ]
[ dice ] Dice Roll XdX+X [ /dice]
[ spoiler=*spoiler title* ] Spoilers! [ /spoiler ]
The spoiler thing is how I make all those nifty thingies
Like this
That help you guys?
Just remove any spaces in between the [] to use the tags.

Hey guys, here is something handy that I found (and had Patcher/Art test)
For those of you who want to make creating a character a bit easier there is a free PC generator called, well, PC Gen
You can get it Here!
Now the primary install from there does NOT have the Advance Players Guide. However, you can get that from the following link:
Once you have it you gotta install it. This is where Patcher helped me out by actually doing it since I found the install instructions at work. Here are the install instructions:
The APG is a bit bugged as its an Alpha release (Eidolons have a few issues) so if you find bugs they ask you to emali pcgen@yahoo.com with the subject line PCGen APG Bug Report and detail what happened.
And yes, this can output to a Text File for easy editing and posting to a profile here!

Another noobish question but asking none the less lol.
Whats the difference between Knowledge Geography and Knowledge Nature?
Dont want to roll for anything if its not covered sense as it was said earlier you cant roll on untrained knowledge skills.
Nature is more about plants, critters, stuff like that. Tree types.
Geography is about things like location, maps, ect.
Very different!

DM Stompinator |

Well we seem to be a pretty smart bunch, so an INT check shouldn't be too hard. Especially if Feraya takes the lead and we give some 'aid another' assistance.
Do any of us know where the tomb is, or is that what we need the map for?
You guys would have a very very general idea of where the crypt is, but the map is an exact route.

DM Stompinator |

Ah that's the joy of dice for you. Good result from the team in the end, and now orcs!
What would be an appropriate second language to have learned growing up here?
Dwarven, Elven, or Orcish
Orcs are known to be around the area, dwarves and elves are 2 of the more promient races in the community.

Just a clarification for you, GM Stompinator.
My Bloodlines allows me to change any elemental effect spell (such as Ray of Frost) into a Fire elemental effect.
So my Ray of Frost became a Ray of Fire in the combat.
Not that it makes any difference now, since they both work just fine.
But I thought I would mention it, so that you don't mistake it next time.
I'll always say if I am using the Fire instead of the normal element in my attacks.

Try to remind me of that when you cast if ya can :P I am herping and derping as best I can haha.

We'll be fine - two down in the first round is good going, and Art was just unlucky. There's plenty of healing to come.
Unless of course the thing casting the illusions is a invisible Ogre-Mage. But I'm betting not :) Possibly just our mentors testing us! Still, I'll be happier once the caster is found and has 3 foot of steel through the belly.
