Hey.....
Since you're not actually moving from the carpet, and the carpet is doin' the movin'.... does a returnin' weapon, after hittin' a target, follow you as your carpet cruises along? :)
A returning weapon returns to the square from which it was thrown; if your carpet has moved from that square, you cannot catch the weapon. Further, I don't know of any item that can pull the weapon to a new square, essentially invalidating a key component of the returning weapon ability. I highly doubt there is one.
If this is for a home game, though, you might be able to get your GM to agree to a modified version of the ability. Increase the bonus cost from +1 to +3 or better, and allow it to return to the character that threw it, regardless of position.

i think I found a more cost effective method than the ring of telekinesis:
Retrieve Item
Source Classic Treasures Revisited 27
School conjuration (calling); Level bard 2, sorcerer/wizard 2
Casting
Casting Time 1 full round
Components V, S
Effect
Range long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level)
Target an unattended object weighing 1 lb. or less whose longest dimension is 6 inches or less
Duration permanent until discharged
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance no
Description
You call a specific nonliving item directly to your hand from a nearby location. First, you must cast the spell on the item while holding it. Thereafter, you can summon the item by speaking a special word (set by you when the spell is cast) and snapping your fingers. The item appears instantly in your hand.
If the item is in the possession of another creature, the spell fails.
I'm the DM in that game so I will allow multiple castings on the same item (each casting uses a different special word). The wording of the spell mentions "snapping your fingers" which is similar wording to the glove of storing which implies free action in my book.
This way a guy can move and use returning weapons. Not 100% sure this would be official but it does not contradict RAW, so I'm okaying it as a DM.
Cheers!

The biggest problem with using that spell in this manner is the restrictions on viable targets. I can only think of one thrown weapon offhand that weighs no more than one pound and is no more than six inches in length. And it doesn't sound like you want this character to be throwing daggers.
Of course, since you are the GM you can hand-waive that.

Purple Dragon Knight wrote:...or alternatively, is there a magic item (like a "glove-magnet") that can pull a returning weapon back at you even if you moved since you threw it?That would be a Ring of Telekinesis.
I would say a Hand of the Mage, but mage hand doesn't allow magical items.
I came here looking for a ruling on the returning weapon and I found it. My issue that if a weapon is mundane then it should return to the square it was thrown from but being magical it should go back to the person that threw it.
But the rules are what they are.
Hand of the Apprentice works exactly as Purple Dragon Knight want the returning weapon to work but I'm looking for the ruling stated above here "doesn't allow magical items".
