Are you also extending the second portion of the contest to match or are you going to force writers to come up with 4500 words in 15 fewer days?

no, that stays the same

we judge do get less time to judge this first round

So how do those of us who may have submitted go about getting our stories out of submission to go through the editing process?

Hi, thanks for asking Luna

is as easy as posting the story for editing in our Pathfinder Fiction Contest 2011 forum

we judges would wait for the final version of that story, that is why we had stopped judging since we knew of the change of plans

Dark Sasha wrote:
I was wondering a bit about this as well. It seems rather strange to change the rules after submissions have been accepted. It might favor those who waited till the last minute as opposed to those who followed instructions and got their stories in on time.

We understand that, and we had discussed it along, this is in part for the benefit of everyone who took part already in the contest and whose who might have not learned of it.

Also I want to point that we are intent in a very different experience than just a writing contest, we are aiming for something bigger than just a competion.

Thank you for responding Montalve. Please explain how you are going to maintain anonymity when we are posting our story in full view of all who have the proper passwords on your forums. Perhaps that is not as big a deal as you made it out to be via the rules on how the story was to be submitted.

Another question: would it be possible to submitt a completely different story later for potential consideration in the Anthology that is not part of the contest? If the answer is yes, when would it be appropriate to do so?

What are y'all complaining about. I turned mine in on the first day submissions were open and couldn't even get access to editors.

Not complaining in the least. I think this gives people who submitted early the same chance as those who waited and got a few edits to now get someone else's eyes on their story. So since we have time Gaibraithe, feel like meeting at the boards for a once over?

It's pleasure to be of service.

About your question: We judges have no access to such part of the forum, Malik aka Robert Gresham will handle the passwords. And even if I had the password I would enter and check them... I am to lazy to read 3 times what I will be receiving in my email and saving in a very specific folder in my computer.

1) Yes

2) Why haven't you submited it already to our forums? :P
je, meaning whenever you want, but its in another area, please submit it under Short stories in "Pathfinder Chronicler Writing Submissions" express both your interest of having people editing it and that you are interested in it entering into the next anthology.

Of course that means lot of work, we plan to put there only the best of what we get, than includes the work of us regulars. And the next Anthology is planed to have mostly new works unpublished in our page, mostly, 1 or 2 might slid, but its not the main idea.

Good to know, thanks again.

That is a long tale of woe, which I will not relay here. Needless to say it is also the reason why I suddenly have more time to write and edit.

I'm confused. Can I edit and resend my submission?

since we re-opened submisions, yes

we also encourage to take your story to the forums and have people help you editing it.

The Exchange

This is the announcement concerning the Round 1 Extension on the front page of our website.

Officially we are extending the Pathfinder Fiction Contest 2011 Round 1 until July 15th, 12:01 AM. The reason? Last year we failed the community—failed to properly refine the potentially great works that came from the talent displayed in the contest. Several stories from the contest that many of us felt worthy of print (with a little more editing) were left on the wayside, never to grace the pages of our Anthology. We attribute this to the contest’s end and the negative stigma authors feel when returning to a story that lost the contest. I will attempt to reconcile this grievance. As founder of Pathfinder Chronicler, creator of Pathfinder Chronicler Anthology Volume I and one of the judges of this year’s contest, I wish to stress that each and every one of you can join the Pathfinder Chronicler Forums and work on your entries there with other contestants and Pathfinder Chroniclers. Not as competitors, in a ruthless contest to be #1, but as kindred spirits with the desire to lift your fellow fiction writer to their highest potential. If you wish to be published in the Pathfinder Chronicler Anthology Volume II, this is your chance to start pushing it through. Not a single story was published in last year’s Anthology that didn’t have an author's participation and the vast majority did this by registering and joining our forums.

At Pathfinder Chronicler we are a writing group first and though this contest flies in the face of teamwork in seeing your fellow writers reach their personal best, we would rather you notice the underlying intent we are trying to communicate. Reaching out to all of you to forge the strongest fiction community ever assembled. Our mission, to deliver fiction on par with professionals. As individuals, this just isn't achievable. If you truly honor what Paizo Publishing accomplishes then you must realize they do a whole slew of editing as a group for the better of their products. Therefore, I implore all contestants to work together in our forums to make their story the best it can be. Taking criticism can be hard but would you rather hear it from a judge after it is too late? If three different individuals look at your story, for sure they will find something that will add significantly to your story. I have seen it happen, over and over for the past 2 ½ years. We are allowing all entries submitted or not submitted to participate in this process. If you already turned your story in and would like a chance to participate in forums editing, you may now take that story out of submission and resubmit before the new Round 1 deadline. Still have your doubts that competing and helping each other won’t work? Read this FAQ concerning your worries. If you have any questions after the FAQ, feel free to contact us at pfcontestquestions@pathfinderchronicler.net

Thank you for your participation in being the best writers of fiction in Pathfinder!

Well, poop. Here I was hogging computer time to get my submission in, and the deadline's been extended. I suppose that's a good thing; I'm still not satisfied with it. I suppose dropping it in the forums and getting some feedback might help.

The Exchange

Please do!

always a wise choice

For anyone who hasn't made use of the forums because you feel like you've already done enough work on your story, post it in the forums anyway. I've already done three drafts on mine, and I'm glad I posted it in the forums because the first edit from another writer got me more feedback and pointed out some issues and gave me some ideas on how to fix it and make my story better. It is well worth it.

The Exchange

Round 1 Extension ending in about three days. I cannot wait to read all these entries.

The Exchange

Woot! Entered. Muahahah!

It appears that the top twenty have been posted to the Pathfinder Chronicler webpage here.

Congratulations to the Top 20 and all participants!

Looks like it. Weird thing is that the postings are all dated January 11th. Still, those are the ones. I recognize a couple from the editing forum.

Contributor

Awesome! :D

I'll be reading over these tonight at some point, but the field this year looks to have had some really strong stories submitted. Congrats to the top 20 and everyone who participated this year.

That said, I'm looking forward to seeing what round 2 will hold (and hoping that the window for round 2 is, umm, decent sized because I'm crazy busy the next month with freelancing, GenCon, and offline family drama to deal with).

Liberty's Edge

Yes!!! ::pumps fist::

Dark Archive

congratulations to the top 20!

now to read your stories and see how poor mine was :P

Congrats to the final 20.

Sovereign Court

Congrats y'all. I look forward to seeing what y'all come up with for round 2.

That posting is just to give them an order

when as administrator you upload an story you can select the date it will or was posted

there will be an announcement soon and We wanted that people had easy access to them.

Sczarni

Congratulations everyone who made it to Round 2! I did not envy the judges on this one. Can't wait to see what comes out of this next round. :)

Sorry to steal your thunder, Montalve! I was/am super excited! :)

Official list of the Top 20. As well as Anthology II Announcement.

For writer feedback head over to here and read carefully.

We are not providing feedback on stories in the Paizo forums. Instead we have opted to provide feedback in a more useful place so everyone can take that feedback and apply it to getting their story printed in the Anthology II.

Well, there goes the longer story idea I'd been holding onto for the contest since last year. :P

Nidal though, hmm. *ponder* Interesting. I have ideas.

How long is round 2 going to last? I didn't see a date for that.

I think I saw a post that said August 20th. If correct, that is a month.

Thanks Dark Sasha, aye I do believe it was a full month, still I will ask Ted to make it clear.

Liberty's Edge

Hmm. I'm a little put off by the fact that there is way more canon material for Cheliax (the one I got) than for any of the other nations, which means I have to buy more books -- I don't have the (Out Of Print) Player's Companion for Cheliax, for example. And there isn't one for Geb, Nidal, Irrisen or the Shackles.

But I won't complain, because if I was going to pick one of the options, Cheliax is the one I would pick. So I'll just count myself as lucky.

100 degrees outside, and I've gotta write a story set in a land of eternal winter. :-o

I'll have to close the curtains, crank the AC way up, and put on some Christmas music.

:) That's why I can't wait for the Irrisen stories to hit the editing boards! Virtual relief is better than nothing.
