Ok, since the vs. threads seems to be on overdrive, I'm curious. What single comic panels stick with you as Iconic?
Three immediately come to mind for me.
#3 Captain America after Cap saves the crew of the sub and loses his shield. "Don't worry son I carry my own-" that panel of him holding his shield arm up just expecting to use his old friend as shade and it's not there got to me.
#2 The panel in Busiek's run on Avengers. The Avengers (Steve, Tony, Thor, Angelica, T'challa) have just run through a host of Ultron clones, all their gear, uniforms are damaged. Thor's standing there, his shirt half ripped off and says "Ultron. We would have words with Thee." Awesome.
#1 Wolverine 75, after he's had the Adamantium ripped out and is being beat on by the Danger Room. That splash panel, him on his knees howling in pain, bone claws extended, blood gushing, with all the dialouge around him (especially Jubilation's 'Wolvie!!!!!') just made my knuckles wince in sympathy.
So what are your 'single panel moments'?

- The moment when Batman first appears (in the costume) in the first issue of Frank Millar's Dark Knight.
"The rain on my chest is a baptism. I'm born again."
- The Death in the Family storyline from Batman, when he emerges from the ruins of the warehouse with the mangled and bloody body of Jason Todd.
- When Superman first appears (in costume) in issue one of Kingdom Come.
- Superman on his knees and still smoldering after the bomb explodes and kills most everyone else in the big battle in the last issue of Kingdom come.
