Hate to sound greedy, but do we get to level? Haven't seen any change to xp for some time... :P
Galadan
Thanks for the reminder to update the XP. I will do so. I need to check if they assume starting at level 4 or not. My understanding was you should end up between 3 and 4 - which is where I expect you to be right now.
And the way the group works together I don't feel the need to artificially let you level. But yes - I need to check the XP first of course.
Surely - can't be that long that I haven't updated them ;)
Please also see the last post. I will ensure you all start without any curses. It's not 100% clear if all of them automatically end if the five are destroyed. At least my understanding is that you won't need to pay for any remove curse.
I might be a little bit slow the next few days. I did read most of the next book a while ago - but have to read it again to ensure I'm not missing anything and to move from the current adventure on to the next.
You still have a few books to deliver and I don't remember exactly how they fit in beyond a reason to have you move on.
So I better ensure I'm doing some reading.

Missing XP:
The Lopper - 320 XP
Screaming Heads - 82 XP
Mosswater Marauder - 160 XP
Crawling Hands - 80 XP
Iron Maiden - 120 XP
Gray Ooze - 240 XP
Blood Writ Name haunt - 480 XP
The Splatterman - 480 XP
total 1962 XP
New total 7199 XP
With medium advancement this is still 1801 XP short from next level. You are a group of 6 - that makes is slower. But I tend to devide XP by 5 to compensate partially for that. And you more or less did a pretty complete sweep.
I can't think about much that you left out. I think you didn't go swimming in the lake and disturbed the undead there. But I think this is more or less everything XP wise that you could have got.

Fraust |

Sorta speaking of leveling...or rather something I forgot to do sense leveling last, is take care of my familiar. Thod, how do you want me to introduce the critter? (mechanically I REALLY want a monkey, but it makes so little sense as to be absurd...so I'm going with thematics and choosing a vyper, though I don't think I'll get much use out of the bonus to bluff) EDIT: Going with donkey rat if that works, when I first looked over them I was thinking Shadowrun's devil rat, and didn't think it fit well.
Also, Aldous...looking at the google.doc and just wanted to make sure of something. If we have an x we have one of an item? Probably dumb question, but want to make sure before I go through and start adding things to Nym's sheet.

I just posted the prologue for part II. I did connect it to this discussion thread. Not sure that was wise - but I will see how it handles a second discussion.
I had a check - officially you should be level 4 now. But you did pretty well and you are a group of 6. Should I feel it is too hard, then I will level up directly.
I also might throw in one or two additional opportunities to get some more XP. But I'm old style and like that players earn their XP.

Galadan Teresthin |

I have a request. I don't think this will imbalance my character as it replaces an ability I don't really need with one I would be taking later anyway. I just read a rule I had missed before. Apparently a character can have two class archetypes so long as they don't have class abilities at the same level.
I was wondering if anyone would mind if I applied the Falconer archetype, along with the Urban Ranger archetype to my ranger class. I could easily have allowed the bird to roam until the end of my time in Ravengro. I know it says a large bird of prey or scavenger (how appropriate); could that include a Raven? (It's not well known, but they are scavengers.)
Is this possible? I was eventually going to take a raven as my hunter's bond anyway.

Wren the FeatherMage |

I know it says a large bird of prey or scavenger (how appropriate); could that include a Raven? (It's not well known, but they are scavengers.)
You just keep your bird of prey away from my little Plumie!

An animal companion is not, unfortunately, as intelligent as a familiar. But I shall attempt to keep a leash on the thing. Just remember that the bird is still mostly wild :P. So fair warning.

Lols. They probably have similiar attack stats (probably same base build) but Plumie will have much more HP, however, that won't stop Wren from being overprotective of Plumie, her babybird.

I'll probably have a leveled Wren up this evening (9+ hours or so from now). I look forward to the next book.

Galadan
Shouldn't be a problem to me. And Raven sounds fitting to Harrowstone as well as Ustalav. I might have to check if they (or crows ?) have a special background in Ustalav. I'm not sure if I read anything along the lines when I read the book about Ustaav. If I find this, then I post it for you.

Before I started part 2 I should have said Thank You for a great game so far. You have stayed with me throughout the whole adventure - and I really enjoyd to be your GM.
This has been my very first foray into PbP as GM. My worst fears were that we would never get very far.
I still remember when I was proud about the first 100 posts. Then the first 500, the first 1000. And many monh later you are still playing.
So let's hope for a similar good second part.

Galadan Teresthin |

Hoping, here. One of my other games just got to the second part of the adventure path, and I'm terrified the group is going to fall apart. The Paladin and my Fighter/Rogue are not getting along at all. She's Chaotic Good, and He's Lawful Good. She is more into scout, survey, find weakness, and strike. He's more of the direct assault, demand surrender type guy. Needless to say, these two types of combat are a little incompatible, and she's gone off and done her own thing a few times now (its an increasing trend). :(

Wren the FeatherMage |

Wren's Leveling:
+6 hp (4 for wiz, 1 for fav class, 1 for con)
+1 to Intelligence
+2 spells known (flaming sphere, create pit)
+1 to init via Diviner speciality (up to +7)
+7 skillz (mad)
---------------
+1 Fly
+2 Know History
+1 Know Religion
+1 Spellcraft
+1 Know Nobility
+1 Know Planes
* * * * * * * *
Wren is happy to sell the remains of the Splatterman's spellbook, but think it might sell for more at our next destination as a collector's item once the history of it is known.
Selling at our next destination will give Wren time to copy Levitate and Gust of Wind as well.
Not sure if any of these spells will help Nym or Andrea.
Professor Faramin's Spellbook:
Comprehend Language (ripped out)
Dispel Magic (Wren's learned already)
False Life (Wren's learned already - ripped out)
Gust of Wind
Illusory Script
Levitate
Mage Armor
Magic Missile
Summon Monster IV (Wren's learned already - ripped out)
* * * * * * * * *
Mr. Aldous, the confuzzling thing for me on the sheet is knowing what we can sell over the next two weeks and what our split will be.
I think we keep:
+1 Mithril Dagger (to whom?)
+1 Keen Longsword (Kevin? Nym? This is sweet.)
Ring of Protection +1 (Aldous)
+1 Heavy Mace (???)
I think we sell:
Rope of Climbing
Stone of Alarm
All the mundane, unclaimed weapons and armor
Not that I'm complaining, but Wren's currently at gear value of 1175gp with 450 gp on hand + the value of the spellbook against a 6000 gp WBL for Lvl 4. Is everyone else in about the same spot?
Now that Wren's alias is updated, you can see exactly what my character has.

Wren the FeatherMage |

Oops, I think I misunderstood Thod's post, we should not be leveled. Ignore. Duh. Apologies.
::Wren goes back to squawking at clouds. How can they be so fluffy?!::
::Ignore, really::

Aldous Preklikin |

@Wren:
For any particular item, if the row that it is in has an X in it, and the item itself has been 'crossed out', it has been claimed by that person.
(For example, Galadan claimed the +1 Heavy Mace.)
If an item has been marked for liquidation, that item has its sale value listed next to it.
(For example, the Stone of Alarm has a sale value of 1350gp.)
Andrea expressed an interest in the +1 Mithril Dagger.
Aldous expressed an interest in the Ring of Protection +1.
No-one has asked for the +1 Keen Longsword, yet (although I agree, Kevin or Nym should get it).
Regarding what each Party Member's split is, in the final row of the table is listed the 'ongoing total per PC', which is the share that each PC will receive upon the sale of the current crop of items marked for liquidation.
As far as being under-equipped, I agree, I think we are; Before claiming the Ring, Aldous' net worth was around 700gp...
...However, we did just find a 8000gp weapon, which could contribute to the treasure asymmetry between PCs :-/

Aldous Preklikin |

Still, if we *are* meant to be level 4 by now, we seem to be a tad behind on the GP curve (however, maybe that will pick-up later in the AP?)
Corollary: From what I have noticed in the past, casters tend to get 'boned' at low levels when it comes to treasure, but tend to pick-up later in the AP...

![]() |

Aldous
Yes - you are officially a little bit behind the XP curve (didn't check GP) and please let me know here if people feel this is an issue.
Any wishes for some magic items that are missing? Again - please let me know here.
The second part of the AP offers more travel and explicitly offers opportunity for random encounters that I can use to add XP or treasure.
In part 1 I tried to be very, very close to the AP as written. I also don't intend to stray from the official one very far - but I can always make a 'random' encounter 'less random' and the treasure found might just be what you are looking for.

Aldous Preklikin |

@Thod: I was not complaining; I was just trying to respond to Wren, explaining why I think things are as they currently are :-)
Corollary: I also just realised that we have a second +2 weapon - the +1 ghost-touch hand axe. Those two +2 weapons will probably account for a fair chunk of the 'pooled party gold' at this level.

![]() |

Aldous
No worry - I didn't take it as a complaint. But as GM I wanted to let my players know that they should speak up if they have wishes, issues.
If I don't hear from anyone than I just assume all is fine. And yes - the ghost-touch handle is another interesting piece of party treasure. I don't think you would buy such an item. There are better options out for the pure cost.
At the same time - it proofed very useful in the last fight. Magical items you find will not always be optimized to your builds. Still - as GM it's nice to see them used.
I just set up the first part of the journey.

![]() |

You should have a link at the top of this page - trial of the beast. I will post a link in the old thread in case anyone else missed it.
Edit:
Just in case - here is also the link
Just need to ensure we also have Kevin and Andrea around. Nothing happened yet apart of an opportunity for some knowledge rolls for background info.

Galadan Teresthin |

If no one else wants them, I'll claim the +1 bolts. I also will take the rope of climbing, as I would have used it to reenter Harrowstone anyway, to help cleanse/claim treasure. I really think it should go to someone else, as it is a useful item, and my share of magic items is somewhat unbalanced.
I believe this will make everyone's share 803.91 gp, once everything is sold. (Aldous, does that include the 10% bonus for our trust in Ravengro?)
I purchase a masterwork chain shirt if its available? Actually, I have just enough available coin for a +1 chain shirt if that's available in Ravengro. Either way works for me, if I can't get the magic armor, I can make other purchases as well. Or a Mithral chain shirt. Not sure which I want.. The +1 is better I think.

Nym Vallidorn |

I think Kevin and I are both fairly well set up for our own specific weapons, and I think the gold would do the party as a whole more than holding on to the sword as a back up for either of us. Next level I'll be able to make my rapier keen on top of being +1, so no worries there.
Only thing I can think of off the top of my head I would like to see are a couple pearls of power, and maybe some wands of magus spells. I'll think about it for a while and throw together a list of items Nym would find useful.

Wren the FeatherMage |

Mr. Aldous: Thanks for the recap.
Thod: With the 803.91 (or so) gp and with her 449 previous, Wren is looking for some random magic purchases before leaving.
What sort of access (or specific magic items) is available in Ravengro?
Wren is looking for some 1/2 used wands or a nice Pearl of Power 1.

Aldous Preklikin |

Ah. I missed that link. Thanks, Thod :-)
Right. I have updated the sheet to reflect the fact that Galadan wishes to claim the rope, and the bolts.
I am still waiting to hear back from Kevin, before we decide whether to sell the longsword, or not.
Is the plan to try to sell the (ex-)haunted items in Leipstadt?
@Wren: The available 'access' (according to what Thod has stated previously) in Ravengro is:
General Store:
Standard Adventuring Gear
Smithy:
Weapons and Armor
The Temple:
Holy Water (unlimited)
Potion of CLW (unlimited)
Potion of Lesser Restoration (unlimited)
Incense of Meditation (0/1 purchased)
+1 Alchemical Silver Morningstar (0/1 purchased)
Scroll of Restoration (0/1 purchased)
The School:
1st level scrolls:
Magic Weapon (0/2 purchased)
Protection from Evil (0/1 purchased)
Hold Portal (0/1 purchased)
Identify (0/1 purchased)
2nd level scrolls:
Resist Energy (0/1 purchased)
Command Undead (0/1 purchased)
Make Whole (0/1 purchased)
Levitate (0/1 purchased)
Wand of Cat's Grace (13 charges) (0/1 purchased)
Wand of Slow (6 charges) (0/1 purchased)
Flesh Golem Manual (0/1 purchased)

I think Lepidstadt is the right place for most of the stuff you want here. As you can see from Aldous post - he lists up more or less what is available in Ravengro apart of the 2 wands.

Wren the FeatherMage |

Thanks for the info, Mr. Aldous. I had completely forgot that he had posted that previously.
I will decline to buy anything for now (save for the below), hoping to do some shopping in Leipstadt.
Wren will look into buying a mule (8 gp). Anyone else want to chip in?
She'll also buy:
animal feed (5 cp)
10 servings wandermeal (1 sp)
10 days rations (5 gp) - mostly nuts and seeds
She will stow some of her heavier stuff on the ass, including 5lb jewelry making kit.

![]() |

I would love to have the +1 Keen, but only if it had been a Dueling sword...... same thing sort of. Thod are you sure it is a long sword and not something a little bit different???
"I swear I am begining to see a slight curve to the blade around 3/4 of the way up."
Let me look a little bit closer !!
hey - I'm not an Aldory Sword Lord (like Warden Hawkran seems to have been). To me a sword with a long blade is a long sword. Now that you tell me what to look for I see the slight curve as well :)
Feel free to go ahead and make it a Dueling sword. That should fix the question about this item and if it gets sold or not.

Sorry for not posting for a while. I have been busy.
If you like to know what I was up to
I got admin rights on the evening of the 23rd and it took me a week to have it now alive and taking orders. Still some fine-tuning to do - but most should be done now.
I will post tomorrow again - wrap up this bit and move on. Time to get closer to Lepidstadt.

Sorry to have abondoned you that long. Next time it goes slowly - please post. Sometimes I read - but don't post as I'm waiting (hoping) for something you might have missed.
Normally I tend not to do o much longer as a day or one and a half.
So this started it. Then RL came in the way. A job interview last week I had been waiting for, for 10 month. The interview went okay but I felt something wasn't right. So I just wasn't in the mood - and Tuesday came and I had promised myself to post - only to end up until 11 at night working on character updates for the family for Conception.
We had great fun. I did run 7 scenarios and played 4. But no free WiFi and with three slots a day five more days passed quickly with no more posts.
And no - I didn't get the job. Interestingly another company I had given up on send me a message that they are still interested.
So life goes on - and hopefully the game as well.

Wren the FeatherMage |

Wren's Updated Gold:
449.2 gp (Post Undead Lecture, not including monies from completion of courier mission)
+803.91gp OOC #277
-6 gp travel purchases
+500 gp (from judge, deliver book, IC #283)
=====
1747.11 gp
Thod, what kind of magics are available in this new town?
Can Wren easily purchase a Pearl of Power 1?

![]() |

There should be all magics available. This is one of the major towns.
Maybe ask if it is something truly strange. But assume most stuff should be available.
Wellard
No problem. A lot right now is investigation. I will just carry on as long as players have ideas what to follow up and don't get stuck. I just assume you watch from the background.

Galadan Teresthin |

Are there any Paladins of Pharasma? I'd just like to know cause I might have to buy a potion or two if I'm to make a statement to the court. Especially if my luck with diplomacy rolls continues. honeyed tongue is a 50 gp potion if made by a paladin, but it would be 300 gp from a cleric. :P Of course, the 300 gp would last for 30 minutes. The 50 gp would last for 10 min. But I wasn't expecting to be speaking for that long. Anyway, if I'm going to spend 300 gp for a potion, it would be either that one or eagle's splendor.
The other thing I am considering is purchasing a ring of diplomacy, a +3 bonus to diplomacy skill checks for 900 gp. But I'm thinking the potion of honeyed tongue might work out better.

![]() |

I need to check my Faith of Purity book. If there are Paladins, then the book even describes how they should behave. But I don't remember it.
In regard to diplomacy checks. No worry - someone lose can do the checks. I just felt you were fitting and I don't check skills (well - sometimes I might) when posting.

![]() |

Wren - just to be clear. I didn't want you to shut up but part of Wrens diplomacy is now legendary and has become a running gag. So I didn't wanted to risk the same in case of an awful dice roll. I also wanted to ensure others take part as well.
Social encounters via PBP are difficult. You don't have initiative order and the first person starting will set the scene. I just wanted to ensure everyone gets a chance. But seems you do fine now :)

Wren the FeatherMage |

Completely understood, Thod.
I aspire to have others involved and hope that I take adequate steps to include others by pausing and providing cues/hooks for others to participate.
Wren is mostly socially clueless and I aspire to use that for good and humor when I can.
