Oh dear, we seem to have lost Drexel. I may have to see if we can get another couple of players.

Male Shoanti Human Barbarian 2

If you would like I can ask a friend of mine if he would like to join. He is new to Pathfinder and pbp but an excellent roleplayer.

Seems like those who are studying these days are finding very little time for relaxing and some entertainment, especially if they are working or have a family already.

Well this is my 1st PathFinder Adventure Path I taking part in. My 1st PathFinder game was supposed to be Ptolus by AJ. So you can say I new to PathFinder though I did do single encounter trials during the betas of PathFinder.

Galstok wrote:

OK. See if he would like to join. Thanks for that.

What character types are needed to make the party more complete? We have 4 characters that has posted the last 7 days: Wizard (Valoria), Barbarian (Galstok), Inquisitor (Tregar), and Cleric (Ensu).

Liberty's Edge

Looks like we've got most of the bases covered; arcane, divine, bruiser and archer/divine hybrid.
We can also divide it into two urbane, two outdoorsy.

In-character, I don't know that Valoria has spoken to Ensu, but I would probably be wanting to recruit a replacement wizard, now I know that the supernatural is involved.

The only traditional role we lack is a dedicated sneak/trapfinder, though that isn't rigidly tied to one class any more, as it was in previous editions.
If someone can perform that task, I think we should allow them a free choice.
If they don't want to do that, I can work toward that myself, but don't expect miracles overnight!

I am assuming that the rest of you are heading on over to the mayors office.

At the Town Hall, you are ushered in by a guard stood outside. Within the office that seves as her reception room, Sandpoints Mayor, Kendra Deverin, looks up from a map she is pondering over. She is in discussion with two other individuals. Both are human although whilst one wears fine studdied leather with an expensive looking rapier at his side, the other appears to have stepped off a battlefield. He stands at ease with a well used tower shield resting against a chair close at hand. A longsword and warhammer are clear evidence of his martial prowess.

"Ahh, my friends."says Kendra, "What news?"

Male Human (Varisian) Rogue 2

Standing before the mayor, with a wide-brimmed hat pulled low over his eyes, a Varisian by his looks, though lacking in any of the typical tattoo's. His leather clothing can be seen to have a charcoal coloration under the dust of the road. his build is wiry and thin, his boots travel worn and in good shape, colored to match the rest of his outfit.

A travel pack rests against the desk, a shortbow strung and ready next to it. The handles of two weapons protrude from his cloak on either side of his waist. And while he looks relaxed, a keen eye notices that he is poised and aware of his surroundings.

At the mayor's question, he lifts a finger to push up the brim of his hat just enough to see you without lifting his head from the map spread before him. After giving everyone that enters a once over, noting clothing, weapons, visible gear, he nods and looks back at the mayor.

You did better than I would have thought from what I heard when I returned to town.

Male Human Fighter 1

Kavrik wanders into town, hearing of the recent goblin attacks and now seeing the aftermath of the vermin's assault. His sizable frame, black hair and pale skin make his lineage apparent and a few of the townsfolk cross the street or enter buildings as he walks down the road. Kavrik calls out to a few and finally finds one willing to talk and give directions to the mayor's office. "hmm, folks seem to be a bit jumpy around here."
After a short walk he arrives in front, removes his dark grey helmet before climbing the few steps into the front door. "I really must see if I can get this armor and shield painted, the last thing I need to do is draw unwanted attention to myself."He steps in to the mayor's office, nodding to the Varisian standing off to the side.
"From the looks of it, you have had some rough times as of late. I understand that you may be looking for some extra help with the vermin control in the area."

Liberty's Edge

Welcome to our two(!) new players.
Looks like we've got two warriors, which could be useful, since I bet there's more goblins at Thistletop than the Glassworks.

I was thinking of a way to keep Drexel in the game, if his schedule frees up. Rather than just have him disappear, we ought to make his departure make sense.
We should return him to the mayor's office, for safe keeping, since he's on loan to us as community service.
We should give him a good character reference, for the part he played, which may reduce or negate his sentence. He's then free to come and go, and can join up with us later. Does that sound good?

Male Shoanti Human Barbarian 2

My friend is going to get a character worked up then posted. If you are still wanting him.

Walking into the room, Galstok looks over the two newcomers. At the sight of Kavrik, he frowns and mutters, "Spirits guide me, another Chelaxian."

"I see you, Kendra Deverin. The tunnels we found go deeper then we had thought. We killed a beast that none of us recognized."

Looking over to Tregar, "We shoulda brought it up with us. So the Wise Ones here could look at it."

"Anyways, we think it might be part of some larger force, waiting for word to attack up the tunnels. We also found a book with plans and descriptions, but Ensu has taken it to one of your Wise Ones to get more information before coming here."

Glancing back over to Tregar,"Wasn't there something else? Um...Oh! Your Wise One, Tobin, his daughter, or a daughter, is apparently behind this somehow. It's in the book Ensu is bringing."

Again, welcome Kavrik and Sephird. @Tregar That sounds good if he is game for that.

Not seeing any clergy around immediately, Ensu checks out the cemetary to look for Tobin might have been buried.

I'm good with the Drexel plan and Galstock - look forward to your friends arrival. We should have enough then I think.

Ensu - As you wander out into the cemetary grounds, you spot a lone figure stood over a rough hole in the ground. Clumps of earth and scraps of wood can be seen littering the ground around him.

Sephird, do you fancy choosing an avatar for your posts. It just makes it a bit easier to recognize people. :)

Liberty's Edge

Have you seen how many avatars there are? We may have to send out a search party, if he's not back by next week.

Are the two new arrivals not Galstok's friends, then? We expecting more? This Thistletop sounds like a deathtrap...

I agree with you on the avatar point! And no. Galstock is inviting a friend to join but out two new arrivals are from replies I got from a request for new players on the contacts thread. (And yes, Deathtrap would be a fitting description. Talking of Deathtraps, I'm toying with the idea of running a Tomb of Abysthor / Slumbering Tsar campaign sometime in the near future. I'd be honoured if any of you would like to take part.

As Valoria does not know the gnome's name, nor where he was heading, and not officially part of the party she remain with Brodert, until Ensu comes to pick up the journal. She simply continues discussions about magic and ruins.
For the other two adventures you planning in the future I can spare some time for another adventure. What game mechanics are you planning of using?

Male Human (Varisian) Rogue 2

picture selected, it was a long and dangerous journey, frought with many misleading signs.
Glad to be here, looking forward to playing with everyone.

Sephird nods to the new arrivals, "as the Mayor and I were just discussing, Ihave made myself available for the investigation of why the goblins of the region are so stirred up and return this idyllic town to it's previously peaceful existance."

male gnome cloistered cleric 3 [ HP: 19/23 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 14 | F: +5 R: +1 W: +6 | Init: +1 Perc: +2 | Effects: ]

Ensu examines the disturbed grave.

Male Shoanti Human Barbarian 2

My friend is getting his back story and stuff written up. I told him to post first on the discussion thread so you can look at it first.

Ensu wrote:

Looking at the mound of earth, you can clearly see the gaping hole where once a coffin was buried. All that remains of it now are the smashed pieces of wood and tattered scraps of white silk that one lined it. A couple of the vicious looking weapons that the goblins call dog slicers have been left next to the hole. The old man standing next to the grave leans on a shovel. He looks down at you and sighs. "'Tis a damn shame. Old father Tobin did no hurt to no-one. It's not right. Poor man should have been left to rest in peace."

Galstok wrote:

OK. Cheers for that.

"Apparently someone disagreed. What did you know of the man? I find him to be a central actor in the story I am following, and would have an easier time placing him in it if I actually knew something about him."

Ensu wrote:

"Well now, let me see. Old Father Tobyn has been priest here for as long as I can recall. He was a kind and gentle man, always one with a kind word and an offer of help where he could give it. Twas probably that kindness that let him raise that poor child of his. He found Nualia on the step of the church when she was but a babe, and raised her as his own. Did a good job too, if you ask me, seein' as how he was on his own. He kept her on the straight and narrow. Wouldn't let her see no boys like. Word round here was that he was tryin' to keep her pure so that she could take her place at one of the prestigious Windsong Abbey convents. 'Twas a damned shame that she got taken by the fire as well. Lovely girl. I may be speakin' out of turn about the good father but that man held a special place in my heart. He took pity on me after my ship wrecked just north of town a decade ago. Saved me from my smuglin' ways he did and gave me a job here at the church. I miss him"

male gnome cloistered cleric 3 [ HP: 19/23 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 14 | F: +5 R: +1 W: +6 | Init: +1 Perc: +2 | Effects: ]

"How old was Nualia when the fire occurred, and is she buried here as well? And pardon my manners, I am Ensu, traveling priest of Nethys and general explorer when my duties allow."

Male Human (Varisian) Wizard 2

Just to see if I have things in perspective here...
-Ensu is at a grave yard, the rest of the party is at the mayor's office reporting on some tunnels they tracked goblins to.
-On the meta side, we still have me and one other player working on introductions, and waiting for a third new player?

Male Human Fighter 1

Kavrik looks around at those who have just come into the mayor's office taking a few extra moments to observe the giant Shoanti man.
"So you are one of the crews that is hunting the scourge that has affected this town? If you would have another blade to assist you in this task I would be more than willing to spill some goblin blood."

Manx Serimus wrote:

Thats correct. Kavrik and Manx/Sephird are in the mayors office. Valoria is still with the sage, Brodert and we are still awaiting the arrival of one other players character. Ensu is at the graveyard.

Ensu wrote:

The old man nods at you, and you notice a holy symbol of Saranrae around his neck on a silver chain."Nice to meet you Ensu of Nethys. Name's Naffer Vosk. As tohow old she was, well i'm not sure. Maybe 15 or 16? And no, she aint buried anywhere. They never found her body. Burnt to a crisp they say. Her ashes are scattered here I think."

male gnome cloistered cleric 3 [ HP: 19/23 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 14 | F: +5 R: +1 W: +6 | Init: +1 Perc: +2 | Effects: ]

"So people don't actually know what happened to the girl? Is it possible she may have made it out of the fire somehow?"

Liberty's Edge

Dunh dunh DUNNH!

"Well, I don't know. It's possible. Anythin's possible. My granny could've grown wings, breathed fire and called herself a dragon. I doubt it, but its possible. But if she did somehow survive why didn't she come back here. No ones seen hide nor hair of her so she must have perished."

male gnome cloistered cleric 3 [ HP: 19/23 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 14 | F: +5 R: +1 W: +6 | Init: +1 Perc: +2 | Effects: ]

"Don't know the answers to that. It's an odd situation all around from the sounds of it what with the mysteriousness and suddenness of the fire overall and the disturbance of the priest's grave. But, you probably have duties to attend to, and I probably do as well, so I best be on my way."

Sense Motive 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

Ensu decides to head back to Brodert's and see if the others have finished looking at the journal, unsettled by the whole thing, and wondering just how deep of a hole the town was finding itself in the middle of.

The old man, Naffer Vosk, sems quite sincere in his beliefs, and also appears to have a strong respect for the church and town as well.

Upon Ensu's return she hands him the journal, speaking softly with concern filling her face, "I afraid no more I can add to what is already mentioned in the journal. The girl, is for sure determined to become a succubus under a demon I believed using the name of Tsuto. Seemed to have been planning this ritual and destruction of this village for some time, perhaps years. Even though we lack information on the girl, the attacks on the village should definitely be taken to the mayor so they prevent additional villagers lives being lost."

Liberty's Edge

...and that's our cue...

"We're grateful for anyone who'll volunteer. There's been a few, who set out with us this morning, and thought twice about it."

"There's no doubt we'll need to travel along the coast, to Thistletop. It'll be dirty, damp and dangerous, not something most are prepared for; you both look like you can handle a few days discomfort, for the greater good."

Male Human Fighter 1

Kavrik steps forward offering his arm in greeting to those who have just arrived. You see he wears darkened chain mail armor and has a shield that seems to be almost as tall as he is slung across his back but he moves as if it wasn't even there. "I have had more than my share of days of discomfort on military duty so I suspect that this will not prove to be an impediment to me. The name is Kavrik Doln and I would gladly offer my sword and shield to making this a safer place."

male gnome cloistered cleric 3 [ HP: 19/23 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 14 | F: +5 R: +1 W: +6 | Init: +1 Perc: +2 | Effects: ]

"As far as I know, the mayor has been informed, though the maps would still be of use. I fear that the greater challenge will be to take the fight to the goblins and their leaders. We will be launching an expedition to Thistletop soon. I just hope it's soon enough. If you care to join us, we can use all the help we can get." Ensu talks as he puts the journal back in his backpack, and heads to the mayor's office to deliver the invasion maps.

Liberty's Edge

"Tregar Quill, at your service.
I see you've met the mayor.
Are you both already familiar with the area?
You look like you travelled some distance."

He moves to the table, and starts rearranging the papers, to expose the map beneath, talking all the while.

"We have proof of who has organised the goblins, and a good idea of several of his discarded strategies. The leaders appear to have set themselves up at Thistletop, using the other tribes to soften the town up."

"From what I heard you speak of and read from the journal. From where I hail from, I have seen the results of dealings with demons. Definitely not a pretty sight for sure. You will definitely also need help of the arcane powers to deal with the succubus being born."

She looks at her backpack lying against the wall near the fireplace, the looks up at the gnome, "Maybe I can take a detour on my trip to Magnimar, to help you and your friends."

"Brodert, I sure we will talk again soon about these ruins of Sandpoint. Just don't do anything silly while I am gone.", shakes Brodert's hand then picks up her backpack and leaves with Ensu to the mayor.

As they walks to the mayor, "Pardon me. May I ask your name. I am Valoria."

As Ensu and Valoria exit his home, heading towards the town hall, Brodert follows them to the door, closing it behind them. He turns and stares into the flames of the fireplace. "What a mess, what a mess. Perhaps I will leave my investigations into what lies beneath us until I am better prepared." The aged sage moves to a bookcase and takes a book down, entitled 'The Blacklords of Magic'. He sits down and takes up a wine glass. "Why didnt I take up young master Foxglove's offer to acompany him to Magnimar..."

male gnome cloistered cleric 3 [ HP: 19/23 | AC: 14 T: 11 FF: 14 | F: +5 R: +1 W: +6 | Init: +1 Perc: +2 | Effects: ]

"Ensu, traveling cleric of Nethys, and apparently now, defender of Sandpoint."

Liberty's Edge

Tregar looks up as they enter.

"And this is the other member of our group. I see you have found company...I wasn't aware old Brodert had a young female acquaintance?"

<thinks>"The dirty old dog."</thinks>

"Do you still have the journal?" He thrusts his hand out, expectantly. "It will help explain to these others what we are dealing with, both in the forests, and in the tunnels below the town."

As Kavrik extends his arm towards him, Galstok pauses for a moment with indecision before extending his arm as well. "I see you, Kavrik Doln. I am Galstok of the Shriikirri-Quah Shoanti. While we are on this hunt, may you find water and shade." And with an almost feral grin, "And may your blades find the blood of our prey!

I am not quite sure what has happened to my friend. I am going to try calling him and finding out what is going on. I'll let you know what I find out. He was making a druid, so I suppose would not need to be added here.

"I do indeed, and I can confirm that Tobin's grave has indeed been disturbed, so time is of the essence, I fear."

Liberty's Edge

Tregar continues to address Ensu and Valoria,

"Was Brodert able to shine any light on the nature of those old tunnels? Or the name Malfeshnekor?",

but watches for any reaction from Mayor Deverin.

<thinks>"Who'd have thought the Kaijitsu would have re-opened the smugglers' tunnels? Or that there'd be more beneath? Deverin is of old family, first to settle the town. Who knows if they've been sitting on this, since they arrived?"<thinks>

Sense Motive 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 7 + 1 = 24

Liberty's Edge

I don't know if rolls like Sense Motive should be made by the GM? Feel free to do so, if you like. I tend to do that in games I run, so as to reduce metagaming. The extra +1 is the class bonus from Stern Gaze.

Upon entering the room she gives a gentle bow towards the mayor, and nod to the others present with a smile, "Good day mayor and gentleman. I am known as Valoria, arrived here today on my journey to Magnimar. I believe my skills are sort after ...", flicks her fingers to allow light to shine from her hand, "... do I need to say more.", with another flick of her hand the light disappears.

Seeing she has everyone's attention, she speaks slowly with serious expression, "I believe Sandpoint is facing a terrible evil, one that is determined to destroy this village. I sure the one who is behind all your troubles is a powerful demon, and has enslaved a young girl to sacrifice herself into becoming a succusbus as part of the village's destruction. Ensu has the journal that contains attack plans. As for the tunnels, Brodert and myself, do believe the tunnels are part of an ancient ruins."
