I'm tethering my curiosity to this thread (since it's gone off rails before in its young life, what's another minor bump?)

I was wondering the pulse of the crew here...is there anyone who would want the job? It sounds like a terrible gig, to me, but I'm always willing to be enlightened.

Along with that...Has anyone here ever ran for public office? One of my co-workers ran for County Commissioner this last election. He didn't do that great, but it was fun watching his process.

You bring a great point - it makes good conversation to discuss what 'we' would change to help correct the cesspool the country has fallen in to but - no, I would never willingly accept the job. Every president I've seen steps in to office looking like they could conquer the world and within 2 years (tops) they look beat to **** and aged 20 years.

No thanks. My life is stressful enough.

However, you did get off the subject and while being omnipotent - there would be no stress or people that could argue with what you wanted changed. It would just get done. lol! If that were the case than yes, I'd take the job and fix this mess.

HAIYIL no. I just was overcome when I saw the JWB comment. I will only be a monarch, not a president.

I did in fact want to be in public office when I was younger. I was even encouraged by Bob Dole, when I met him, to look into different local offices to get a feel for it and to set myself up for more important positions.

I then left highschool, decided it was not going to be right for me.

I'm not prepared to lie and tell people how awesome they are when they're being idiots, or treat questions as serious when they're frivolous or irrelevant, or smile while somebody is knifing me.

So no, I'm not public office material.
