It's funny how expectations can affect you psychologically. After all the talk of how bad the second shot can be, all I have is some extremely mild soreness, not even as bad as the first shot.

So of course my hind brain starts worrying, "Did this second dose even work?"

Funny when you start thinking, "This doesn't hurt enough; it can't be working right..."

My first dose was the worse one, and the worst symptoms I had were extreme dizziness and distractedness. They warned me for round 2 that staying hydrated would help, and that probably made a lot of difference. But it might depend which vaccine you're getting.

I drink a LOT of water. That probably helps.

Yes, this is a great idea. They don't want you to pet the K9 officer, but I'm sure that they won't mind you stealing it.

I will say this, with everyone this week that has refused to listen to me, from coworker, the roofers, my wife, the neighbor, the kids, and the landscape designer, the one person who has listened is the boss.

That helps, a lot.

For the record, Scint's statement notwithstanding, the whole, "Women have worse side effects from the COVID vaccines" is proving true for us: I have a slightly sore arm (not even as bad as the first vaccine). GothBard has a 100°F fever today and is definitely woozy.

The big test will be on Monday when Impus Major gets his second dose. The boy is never sick, so the second dose may well be a doozy for him.

It might depend on which vaccine it is. My district got us Moderna.

Have I mentioned recently how much I hate parents?

Let me see if I can copy-and-paste this and remove all identifying information:

-----
(1) Students are informed that popular teacher is on indefinite administrative leave
(2) Students meet with the principal and mysteriously say, "We don't want <teacher> to come back until they feel they're ready," indicating it's more than likely a personal leave of absence rather than a disciplinary one.
(3) Teacher's volunteer group personally reaches out to teacher, leaving treats and a card on their doorstep, sending them a group text, and letting them know we're there for them once they feel ready.
(4) The volunteer group wants to do more and I push back hard: Teacher needs space and time. They agree and back off.
-----
(5) Independent parent group starts a petition to "force" the school district to bring the teacher back, and it even includes the statement, "Whether they want to or not".
(6) Volunteer group points out what a horrible idea this is, and ask parents to stop.
(7) The kids hear about it, and say it's a horrible idea, and ask parents to stop.
(8) Parents ignore us and the kids, bypass us to get a list of all parents of all kids in all of teacher's classes, and have started a massive petition to "reinstate" teacher.
-----

Yeah, I'd love it if I had to take a psychological leave of absence and hundreds of angry parents forced the school district to at least make my condition public to try to take off some of the heat.

What part of "respect other people's wishes" do they not comprehend?

Have I mentioned that in my homebrew I'm doing a variation on the Seven Samurai?

The biggest "issue" so far is that I have SO many NPCs with SO many personalities that I want the players to interact with ALL of them, but the kids are far more interested in, "How many of those kids can we get to dig trenches in the northern field? And do we have access to bamboo spikes?"

I've managed to pique their interest a bit: Just what is Father Freesong's back story that he was driven out of the orphanage and can only return in disguise? What manner of creature did the Asmodeans summon in the forest that's preventing the orphans from fleeing and hiding there?

I'm just worried they're going to be so desperate to get to the final battle they'll miss a ton of it. And quite possibly get themselves killed in the process. (I think it's a CR+5 or CR+6 fight, so they've got to plan carefully.)

EDIT: LOL. Leave it to Shiro to rain all over my parade. "Wait a minute?!?!? They know that there's a huge army on foot approaching that they can't hope to match in the open field, and they have dozens of horses and people with low-light vision and darkvision and they're not running night skirmishes to pick off a few of the bandits at a time? What the heck? Is this Seven Samurai?"
"Yeah, that's how they're playing it."
"Do they know what happened at the end of Seven Samurai?!?!?!"

We're about halfway through our huge project that everyone (except me) said would take us most of the summer.

With a month and a half until actual summer.

I didnt realize until I was leaving that the main reason why I felt so awful at my desk was because, somehow, the heat in my building was on. It was maintaining a heat of 76 degrees. And it was actually 78 degrees in the building. Any time it dipped the heat turned on and blew gently onto the top of my head. Ugh.

It's the reason I could never move anywhere east of the Mississippi: Every place I've visited on that side of the country sets the thermostat to 78˚F all winter.

I'd die of heat stroke.

NobodysHome's Story Time:
I was delivering training in Chicago, so I had to be in slacks and a shirt and tie. After 9 hours on my feet in a sweltering classroom I thought I was going to collapse. I got outside and the snowy, 8˚F weather was an absolute blessing! I strolled across the street in just my shirtsleeves, walked in to a restaurant, and the maitre d' took one look at me incredulously and asked, "What are you, a yeti or something?"

A company is installing fiber internet in my neighborhood. I am not interested, mainly because I don't need faster internet than what I already have, and it would cost about twice what I'm paying now. Today, I got an email from my ISP saying "Hey, just letting you know that we're doubling your speed at no extra charge. Enjoy!" So now I'm going to have faster internet at the same price. I may not need it, but I'll take it.

It's amazing what they can magically do for free once there is actual competition in an area.

Because I wanted rice krispy treats, but didn't feel like making them, so I just ate marshmallows and rice krispys.

So, I'm plugging away at my technical perfection yesterday and I get to the point where I need to mix up and install the edging, so I walk up to our trailer to get the 2 75 pound buckets of concrete mix I'll need and I get up to the driveway circle and there's a semi truck loaded down with trees and plants with literally everyone else in the company that wasn't out mowing lawns was there unloading everything and bustling about placing them where they go while the boss and designer are checking everything off the list and looking at the plans.

Needless to say I was glad I'd been wearing my earbuds because when one of the guys came down to get us to unload the trailer coworker told him to leave me be while I finished up the walkway.

Merah weighs 4,5 kilos. Mephisto weighs 7,4 kilos.

In this incarnation they're defending an orphanage. I don't think half the PCs and kids dying will be considered a "victory".
