Yes. We still like LA, although there are a few places we are considering. Portland has become a major contender (my brother lives there, housing is affordable, and public transportation is plentiful [we hate having to drive everywhere]). On a whim, I applied for a job there.

I want to fix the house up before Oct. Hubby bought me some primer and paint, I think I'll start with the kids rooms. We got a pretty mint green for the room Ari and Riley share and a kinda pearly grey for Kellen. I am also browsing craigslist for flooring. :)
Dumb question. Painting is one thing, but I'd have reservations for paying for flooring if you're renting. Any way to work that out with the landlord w/o making him reap all of the benefits of your hard work?

Maybe RHPS-era Susan. Nowadays, you'd be better off with her daughter.
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"
BttH right there. :D

lol, yes there is. For 1 we have been here for 7 years, at this point we feel responsible for new floors. 2.. we are talking about buying the place from him and expanding on it.
Our landlord has offered to owner finance. :)

Yeah ... I'm going to have to agree ... new floors are needed. <sheepish grin>
When you go about doing the owner finance to buy it, you should talk to someone like Moff and give him the specifics to make sure you're jumping into the right mortgage. Sometimes these owner lease to own deals can be a bit questionable and you need to make sure you're getting the best deal to take into account the years you've rented and what you've put into it. :) Not that I'm questioning the landlord; it's just my protective-of-friends instinct kicking in ... especially given my tenure in banking loans.

I feel so grown up.
I just bought (well, ordered-- they didn't have it in stock in the store) my first ever brand new major piece of furniture-- a new bed with bookcase headboard and storage drawers underneath. Not sure what it says about me that I'm forty years old and have been living with hand-me-downs and second-hand furniture* since I left my parents' house, but I'm very excited. :)
*To be fair, a lot of the second-hand furniture is stuff I've picked up on antiquing ventures, and it's very nice, but it's all small stuff.

Of course not!
Have I been with you so long, AZ, and yet you do not know me?
I mock because I love.
Oh, and because it is fun...if people notice. Otherwise, meh.
Well, if you perform Facebook Mockery, I may not notice for some time. I am trying to cut down on FB time because certain (non-FAWTLY) people keep posting things that torment me and drive me towards the edge of the Cliffs of Insanity.

I love new furniture!

I've been popping four Aleve at a time. They used to do more, but even given a possible decrease in their effectiveness, I don't think Ibuprofen does much for me. How did you do it? Basement saving or Charlie totting? Or both at the same time?

Ack! I hope the cats don't love the new bed in quite that way. :P
(Yes, I know, in theory I could lock the cats out of the bedroom, but one of them is old and blind and timid, and it freaks her out too much to venture out into the rest of the house.)

With the exception of one cat, we keep the bedroom door shut all the time to keep them from coming in. While I have four of them, I'm also allergic to them. It's the one place I want in the house (aside from the guest bedrooms) that I would like to keep it free from shedding fur. :)

I can understand that. Until Alice went blind, the cats had an 'apartment' in the (finished, heated) basement where they went when I wasn't home, so as to prevent destruction of the rest of the house when they were unsupervised. Now, though, they stay in my bedroom because it traumatizes Alice too much to move from one room to another. She's old, and I want her last months or years to be happy ones. And fortunately, I'm not allergic.

Even more ironic is that we have a dog and I am allergic to him too. A bit of a masochist? Probably, but I'm also an animal lover so I cannot even imagine living without pets. We do have the den and the basement set up where the cats can retreat because 95% of the time, they do not want to have anything to do with the 120 lbs 2 year old American Bulldog.
"But I want to plaaaaaay! Why won't kitties play with meeeee?"

Awww... I love bulldogs! My lifestyle would not accommodate a dog right now, but when I retire, I'm gettin' a bulldog. And the cats will probably kill and eat me for it. :P
You sound like another friend of mine, who's incredibly allergic to cats, but manages the allergies with shots so he can still have them. I think I'd do the same, if I were allergic. Pets are family to me, I can't imagine being without them.

I've been having problems for years now. When I first went to the doctor for it, he told me I had slipped a rib. I'm guessing that's what it is again. Eventually, I'll make my way back to the doctor to see what's up, but as long as I can still function, I can live with the pain.
