Woran wrote:People bagging my groceries made me super uncomfortable when in the USA.Same, but mostly because most people make no effort at all to be smart or efficient about it.
I clerked in my mother's general store all through high school, and I prided myself on my bagging skills. Inefficient baggers make me crazy.
Its not something that is done here. Sure, cashiers will help out people who need help (elderly, handicapped). But other then that, you're on your own.
Also, I've used the same backpack since I was 12. I know exactly what fits in there and will measure shopping accordingly. Also, it fits more then you thin, but only if you pack it right.

I've been to extremes. On the one hand there's a store near me that's a local MN chain where the front of the store is carpeted, every lane has baggers, and those baggers automatically help you out to your car unless you outright refuse them. The groceries in this chain are usually too expensive for me to shop there.
At the other end is the big box stores. You enter with the herd, being counted sometimes by someone with a counter device at the door. Once in everything you buy is plus sized or bigger. When you get to the lanes the checkout folks are so overworked and underpaid they basically throw you through as fast as possible and you have to run to a bin to pick out your own cardboard carrying devices if you want to pack your purchases in any way.
Either way, I don't really care. Or at least I didn't until a deadly disease took over our whole world. Now I lurch about, side-eying everyone within my 6' bubble, checking myself out of the self-check lanes regardless of how many groceries I'm getting and I don't talk to anyone like I used to.
I'm the groceries troll.

"Pasture-raised" is usually short hand for non-vegetarian hens. Chickens naturally like to eat bugs and worms and "stuff." So when you see an egg labeled as being from vegetarian fed hens, that usually means that they are locked in industrial factory egg makers. Even if the chickens do not necessarily wander all that far, the fact that they can go into the pasture to find a tasty grub is a sign that they are more likely free range.
Which means whatever.
Yep. Better take away that dead mouse real fast.

there's a man online I follow that goes into excruciating detail about the wasp nests he removes as a part of his job. He has shown truly gorgeous paper wasp nests, and shows how they build and why. He also takes the nests home, removes the grubs and feeds them to his hens(the girls), who devour them hungrily.

On the one hand, today is a fairly relaxing day because I'm updating a course to our new PowerPoint template.
On the other hand, the only reason this isn't a 10-minute automated job is that yet again, the author ignored our processes, our tools, and all of our warnings to "not do that".
Basically, we provide every author with a toolbar. We say, "Use this toolbar for ALL of your formatting. Otherwise you'll break the production macros AND you'll break all of the upgrade macros so that from now on you'll have to hand-upgrade every PowerPoint you ever write."
And they ignore the toolbar and use native Microsoft formatting.
Fortunately, this person got laid off, which is why I'm doing it by hand.
But they didn't get laid off for pulling this s***, which is what irritates me about working for Global Megacorporation.
Global Megacorporation: "Here are the standards you MUST follow, and here are the tools to help you follow them. If you don't use the tools, you'll make tons of busywork for everyone, yourself included."
Lazy Employee: "Nah, I'm not going to do that. I'll just do my own thing. And I don't do busywork so make someone else fix it."
Global Megacorporation: Oh, well. I guess that's OK...

They put enough meds in me that I passed out for a few hours.
But it actually helped. The fear stopped. First time I was ever given something that legit helps.
I got an RX for BP meds. I got a small RX of anxiety meds that isn't nearly enough to last.
It's over a month wait to see a psychiatrist. Almost as long to see a GP. And it took the last of our money after paying rent to fill the RXs.
But I'm not feeling terrified. For the first time in months I don't have that nagging "oh s#%%" about everything. So that's a plus.
We have food to last until Tala gets paid, and utilities are included in the rent, so aside from gas we will be okay. Mind you she has to drive to work, but we should be able to make what we have stretch.

Today I was working a mile away from the nude beach in Mazomanie.
However, in an ironic twist it was too cold out for nude beaching so I couldn't take any pictures for Freehold.
I did try to get a picture of the two old ladies in jeans and flannel shirts hanging out next to the nude beach but the road was too windy and I was driving.

1. a CR +1 version where their aura imposes a Concentration check of some kind as casters themselves begin hallucinating when casting
I actually thought about concentration penalty for this ability. It alone would not warrant CR increase - the hit points, AC, and attack/damage would have to be boosted to keep the gremlin competitive at its new CR. You could add that concentration penalty for free when applying Advanced template.
2. trading out their power blast with random spell effects resembling level 2 arcane spells, except its randomly rolled. Like, the thing screams in Aklo or Undercommon "TASTE LIGHTNING MORTAL FOOLS!" points its wand and... Poof, it turns invisible.
I also thought about random effects for them but blogger poorly handles tables and without a table it is hard to neatly present a big number of random effects (and where the fun would be with only a small number of random effects here).
Please give us more of your fine gremlins. Say, enough to fill a corporate building or movie theater in the 80's.
*cough* Definitely corporate building. I love the second part.

OK, OK. I'm sure this is going to raise some hackles, but OMFG some marketers are *SO* amazingly clueless you just have to laugh out loud in sheer shock.

"Oh, this wasn't approved before it was put out in public!"
B$@!+@*!.
To be clear, I'm making a declaration about the smell of male bovine fecal droppings. Just in case I wasn't clear with my incredulity.

Today sucked.
One exception: Watching my Smart Cat play with a rubber band. And she snapped herself in the face with it. The look of utter betrayal she gave that rubber band...it was so funny.
Mephisto always looks incredibly betrayed when he is being dumb and the catflap hits his face.
Also, hugs.

First off, good luck and lots of positive vibes for your game running Woran.
But also... what's this "con" you speak of? I seem to recall, something in the ancient times, before the Age of Perpetual Quarantine, when my ancestors used to gather in large groups to celebrate their hobbies. Is THAT what you're hearkening to?
| Nylarthotep |
Depends on the con actually
I started going to conventions as an adult for living greyhawk modules. Traveled extensively with a pokemon attitude. Played a lot. Met a lot of fun people. Some turds too, but overall good folks.
Dragoncon, I started going to for LG, but again, folks brought me back. People watching. Gaming. Visiting friends that I only see at conventions. I do enjoy some of the gaming panels, but also drinking scotch with Jason B and the ARC fellowship folks over Cataan at 2 AM has a strong draw.
The old local cons have suffered since LG was retired, Trinoccon, Defycon, Duracon all dead. MACE and Con Carolinas still active, but I rarely go anymore (even before covid).
So, I guess gaming and friends.

What do the FaWtL folks like about cons? Do you go for the game demos and slots, the networking, insider or celebrity panels, industry announcements, or just to shop?
yes.
Mostly, I love(d) selling shirts and H. Always great to talk to people you saw last year. And when famous people stop by the booth...its AMAZING!

Hanging with friends from all around the country, really.
Also, making prelections. Well, I hate preparing for them, but running them is much better.

Curriculum Developer: In order to enable this feature, you have to set FLAG_FEATURE_ENABLED = N. Don't you think this might be confusing to customers?
PM: No. All such options are documented in this guide, so there are no issues.
Is N a variable instead of short-hand for "No"?

As an IT Professional, if I went into the settings or .ini file or .cfg or wherever this thing is hidden, and I saw "Set FLAG_FEATURE_ENABLED = N", I would absolutely assume the feature was not enabled.
I don't care what documentation they have, what they actually have is going to confuse people who do this sort of thing for a living. The people who are going to be using this as customers are going to have no chance.

Just had a meeting with the boss that turned into an argument. The fired word was tossed around. This is getting to be too much, even for me.
Spoke to a former supervisor(last person to have this position actually) and they were sympathetic and went on about how much they hate my boss, and how bad working for him can be.
That's it. I'm going to be reaching out to my boss' boss tonight about potential lateral moves. I will be professional, but I dont think I'll be working here much longer.

I mostly go to cons for gaming. And eating. The german con was always eating with a side of gaming...
I've never gone to the 'comic con' kind of cons. Always gaming cons.
I've met great people, had tons of fun, discovered weird games. Made longlasting friendships. Its good to meet new people and reconnect with old friends.
