And pass up the chance for some classics?

Seriously, most subjects can be made interesting somehow.

Roll an array or just give them a point-buy...

Use the elite array in the Core Rulebook, then roll a d10 for each score: 1-2 = -2, 3-4 = -1, 5-6 = no change, 7-8 = +1, 9-10 = +2.

Despite boring teachers.

I mean, heck, I'm about cardboard level of interesting.

Well, the players are rolling.

And every history teacher I've ever had seemed to get an urge to drag in the boombox when it was time to talk about the 60's and 70's.

We use Youtube nowadays.

And now I want to watch Animaniacs.

But that's nothing new.

I'm always up for some Animaniacs.

Probably explains a lot that it came out just in time to be a huge influence on my sense of humor.

I wish cartoons still used anvils nowadays.

I actually made the observation because someone sent me this link to a performance from a band with one half being made up of geography teacher.

In the words of music critic Alexis Petridis "they sample old public service announcements and mix them with krautrocky electric guitar music."

At least some are at least attempting to make jokes for the adult audiences, too.

Ah, sense is made.

It still floors me sometimes watching cartoons that were on when I was a kid.

Of course, Jarvis Cocker from Pulp looks more and more like a sociology professor each year. Bet he didn't see that coming when he rushed up on stage to moon the crown during a Michael Jackson performance at an award show.

I get the jokes now!

Some of them, at least.

I dunno, one of my sociology profs wouldn't have looked too out of place at a rock concert.

Neither would one of my history profs, for that matter.

Only quality ACME-brand anvils for this genius! Oh you sly old devil you!

Figures that was the one I nearly nailed with a door a few months before taking his class.

I found an old Hardy brothers book I had when I was a kid. It was originally written during the 30s, and - OH THE RACISM! (against Chinese, in particular). Bad, naughty Hardy Boys!

The Bumbi bears (or whatever they were originally called in the US) should be shown more often, though. And Professor Balthazar. Yugoslavian psychedelia for the win!

That was awkward.

"Have you taken my classes before? You look familiar."
".....noooooo. I work at the library, though."
"That must be it."

Oooh! Doctor Snuggles!

Still don't know whose idea it was to have the door open out with brick pillars obscuring the stairs like that.

Architectural fail for the win?

Initial thought: I could build a better one.

Final thought: No, I can't. I don't have legos.

Goliat!

Perhaps you could ask Charlie for some Duplo pieces.

I'll pass. We never got proper Legos and had to make do with the stupid Duplos.

Bought myself chocolate cake, milk kissel and two bottles of Frugo! *yum-yum*

Spend almost half of weekly feeding budget. *shrug*

Annnd time to try and get some sleep again.

I think I'll eat some more cake now. Dinner can wait.

It's not like I have birthday today...

Fire regulations combined with stoopid structural engineers.

Found on another thread. So close to success and yet so dismal failure. Yes Kajehase, you can laugh now. We'll get revenge for getting that used king of yours!

Lots of people driving up their post count today, eh?

Boredom does that.

For example.

Yeah, that is one I definitely missed when I was six.

I highly doubt this. You could make class more fun if you were of a mind to and had the resources. One of the biggest influences on me was my Spanish teacher, who was head of the science fictioncclub and the first responsible adult I knew who was a serious role player. I'm sure there are students who would kill for a teacher that was into mlp and Pathfinder.

When I say boring, I'm referring to my level of social activity. When I was student teaching, one of the first questions I got (besides "How do you pronounce your name) was "Do you go to parties/drink?" "No." "What do you do for fun?" "Read books, play Pokemon." Half the class instantly deemed me boring, and I'm perfectly okay with that.

That said, one day while subbing I wore my Homestuck hoodie in the room (too cold without a jacket, and wearing a coat while teaching is ridiculous), and the TA pretty much flipped out.

I have absolutely no problem being an utter geek in front of students. I think it's great how many students seem to enjoy having a geeky sub or teacher - gives me hope that smart-shaming will come to an end.

However, I'm not trying to impress anyone who isn't actively looking to employ me. If the kids like me, that's awesome. If they don't, then I hope they at least learned something.

Yeah, kids these days seem to love geeky teachers for some bizarre reason, from the tales Scint's told me of student reactions to MLP/Pokemon/Homestuck/etc. references in class.

Your peers, however, still deem you socially inept if you don't go to all the sports events, go on a date every weekend (or more often) if you aren't married, and spend every non-football game Friday night at a bar.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

My cynical guess is that it provokes a reaction of "Kindred spirit!" from the geeky ones and "Ha, my life is so much cooler!" from the non-geeks.

My somewhat more optimistic guess is that the geeks are breeding and indoctrinating their children well in addition to sneaking more geeky stuff into pop culture as a whole.

My mad scientist guess is YES! THE DEVICE IS WORKING! QUICKLY, IGOR, FETCH ME MORE TUNGSTEN!
