FF7 remake?! I might actually finally get to play this game.
Fair warning, the thing is supposed to be redesigned from the ground up, so it’s unlikely to be a representative experience.
FF7 is, from what I can tell, as popular as it is because it was many’s first exposure to the series; also it had full FMV when that wasn’t that much of a thing. Those two elements, when combined with a decent gameplay system and story, turned it into an icon.
My point isn’t to say “don’t play it” but rather to just manage expectations. It’s easy to get overhyped by a game that receives constant praise and fond memories.

I know I would be happier with a litten.
What pokemon would you be happier with?
Right now...um...dragging a dead pokemon behind me on a leash as I trudge down the sidewalk in the rain.

Misdreavus. Or Umbreon. I saw a mod to turn your dog into an Umbreon, and I may have to go get that one when I get home...

Here's the kind of behavior that I fundamentally cannot comprehend: It's just plain beyond me.
Impus Minor had a bunch of friends over yesterday. They gathered in the living room to play video games. They looted our fridge and our leftover Halloween candy. All perfectly normal.
This morning I found a pile of around 30 candy wrappers in a pile on the living room floor.
Who the **** goes to someone else's house and just dumps a pile of garbage in the middle of the floor? I mean, WTF?
Yes, Impus Minor gets to clean it up. Yes, a second occurrence will result in a monthlong ban of all his friends.
But FFS. I cannot imagine dropping ONE wrapper on someone else's floor, much less a whole pile!

And I'm more than ok with boobs topping out in the "improbable porn star" range, which is what I assume of Tifa's remade boobs, rather than the "outright impossible" range. Especially since I now have two boys at home.
But of course boobs are a huge controversy.
I think it went in the opposite direction.

When and where I grew up? The host parents would have the full backing of the child's parents to impose punishment. You just didn't do that at your own house, let alone someone else's.

I can imagine one scenario that excuses it—when the acting host himself (i.e. Impus Minor) explicitly permitted it noting that he will clean it later oneself. In fact I was in similar situations (maybe not exactly candy wrappers but some kind of dry non-messy trash that I was told to leave where I sit, and even then it was usually on the table/chair, instead of dropping to the floor). I presume it was not the case here.

Now I am sad that our Star Wars campaign died before we got to flying an Y-Wing or two... My soldier-turned-gunner would love to spam some torpedoes from the two-seat version. Or maybe even fly one-seater on his own. I ain't got to 4 Agility for nothing, y'know!

Fair enough. My RL bestie is one of those who fell in love with FF7, and mostly I just want to share some of that experience.

And this is very fair.
By contrast, I came to FF7 after: FF6 (called FF3 at the time; an amazing game), FF4 (called FF2 at the time; pretty good), and Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (HAHAHAHAH, wait, oh, ouch, that hurts, Japan), not to mention other Square titles like Secret of Mana and others. As a result, I actually had a pretty strong image of what FF was actually like. And FF7 intentionally rejected that. Now, that’s not too unusual for the FF series, changing its own dynamic, but I liked exactly zero of the characters at first, the setting (at first) was ugly, the polygons looked so incredibly much worse than the spritework of the older games, and the dissonance between FMV and game imagery was not something I was fond of. Basically nothing appealed to me at first AND it felt like a betrayal of the things I’d come to love about the series. I mean, FFMQ was a crappy game (I mean, it really is not worthwhile unless you reeeaaaally want to), but it felt like it fit into the over-all FF ouvre. FF7 was like expecting to sit down to read a sequel to the Hobbit and LotR, and instead getting Neuromancer. SURPRISE!!
Now, there’s nothing BT wrong with Neuromancer (okay, there are a lot of things wrong with it, but it’s still a great novel), but there’s a bit of tonal whiplash and unpleasant dissonance that comes when you’ve signed up for experience A and receive experience Yigifitch.
In retrospect, of course, it wasn’t as different or as bad as it at first seemed. I can see how it incorporated several aspects from FF6 into its mechanics, and even story telling, too. But it intentionally tried to be different in presentation, and I didn’t like that at first.
Now that I am older (and acknowledging the power of nostalgia), I can recognize problems even in favored classics of mine, and I recognize value in games I once didn’t care for, but the rough parts of FF7 were starkly on display back in the day, and they haven’t really changed. The remake hopes to shed some of these problems, but in doing so they are going to have to reject some parts of what made the original game as great as it was in the kinda of many who enjoyed it. It’s a tricky rope to walk, for sure.
Point is, I’m certain it will be a good game. But I’m also certain that it will take lessons from FF15 to inform its new story beats and progression and gameplay as much as the original FF7 and the games that came out around it.

I really don't understand Hollywood and the general public's obsession with sequels.
For every Aliens, there are dozens (if not hundreds) of The Matrix Reloadeds. For every Terminator 2, there are scores of Speed 2: Cruise Controls.
So I avoid sequels with some passion. Especially when it comes to animated films.
So everyone knows I'm an unabashed Frozen fan ("Let it Go" literally had me tearing up the first time I saw it), so everyone's asking me when I'll be seeing Frozen 2.
And the answer of, "Preferably never" baffles them.
And their inability to understand just how bad sequels typically are baffles me.
Ah, well, live and misunderstand.

I'm not sure how I feel about the canonity of 2 seater vs 1 seater. Then again it's star wars, I can make my own anything.

if I was on the ethics committee, I would have voted to dissolve the committee. I hate FFVII, but I will not deny fans their original game. Including Tifa's assets.
If anything, I would have demanded a re release of FF 1-6. Which we already have, I think.

I will never EVER forget the confused applause at the end of Matrix Reloaded.
Or the *painfully* forced applause/cheers at the end of Star Wars Episode 1.
That was a great insight to what Hell is like in What Dreams May Come. Something/place that is supposed to be happy, has all the trappings of happiness, and yet is completely and totally miserable.

I also think we live in a time where not just profit but IP issues rule, so companies, especially Disney, are going to keep putting things out to ensure nothing ever, ever expires.

Went to Ikea today. Totally mentally tired now.
But we have an appointment. For a kitchen. Because we really cant put it off much longer, as the kitchen we have now is breaking down slowly piece by piece.
This is pages late, but shopping makes me so daggum mentally tired, too.
So. Daggum. Mentally. Tired.
