2nd pass around the Zoo :-)
In one Polish Zoo there were complaints that a pair of zebras (or donkeys, I don't remember) were having sex in public... The complainer was a member of the city council and pressed Zoo management to separate the pair for a time until the public ridicule of the complaint and decision made the director revert it. Just be warned that such things happen.

Thank you!
Also: sorry, I actually do know who he is - and knew when I asked; that was a bit of a misplaced joke on my part at first, clumsily and faultily corrected to "What?" which was my actual question... - but, this:

Dumb as it was (even at the time), irritatingly preachy and unconvincing as it was (even at that age), and over-the-top corny as it was (even at that era), I watched Captain Planet way back when. Not religiously, but enough.
And as exceptionally stupid as it is, possibly for nostalgia only, and possibly just because there's a draft right where I'm sitting, I got chills of "coooooo~!" watching this, despite (or maybe "because of"?) it having every one of the aforementioned traits.
I dunno, guys. Am I losing my discernment? Cynicism? Am I just waxing nostalgic? Or was that fan-made trailer actually... fun? Cool? Some combination? Weeeeiiiiirrrrrd.
However, we were speaking of Game Theory earlier, and, speaking of Captain Planet and MatPat...
(It... it's glorious...)
You're welcome!

You know, I was just occasionally popping on to FaWtL, including dropping into the middle of, "Donner Party: The Musical", when I realized that I loved all the people here.
If I go on a hiking trip this summer, as planned, and miss 1000-2000 posts, I'm just going to be Elsa and "Let it go."
(Yes, the kids' game on Wednesday ended with them leveling up, and a big-old old-fashioned "Let It Go" sing-along by all the players who weren't at the computers at the moment. I don't know whether to bless Hero Labs for charging $10 per computer license, or curse them...)

I was growing annoyed at how the combo of my eye problems and my new uncomfortable chair are killing my ability to use the computer for any length of time or play video games on the comp.
I feeling a bit better though, my wife bought me the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy for PS3 so I can play on the couch and have something to do. The first game is easy to play too as it basically consists of running down a linear hallway and battling by pushing one button then watching a 20 minute movie-like cutscene, back and forth.
I am happy with that right now=)

OK. Here we go. For no reason whatsoever:
- 1999 blueberry iBook with the original OS replaced by Kubuntu (Linux), the original memory upgraded, and the original CD drive replaced by a DVD burner.
- 2001 Dell laptop with the original OS replaced by Kubuntu. See a pattern here?
- 2004 original Mac Mini, on which I did all my financial "stuff"
- 2011 Windows 7 laptop provided by <major software company>. Who would've thunk an IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad would remain one of our best computers even after 5 years?
- 2013 Windows 7 desktop I built by hand for Impus Major. Holds the distinction of actually CATCHING ON FIRE when its video card burned out
- 2014 Windows 8 laptop we bought for Impus Minor. $2000 for a piece of junk that can't even run 5-year-old games because it's so full of bloatware and Windows 8 is The Devil.
- 2014 Windows 7 laptop we bought for NobodysWife. Again, an amazement of slow, considering the other laptops we have lying around the house that perform much better than it does.
- 2014/2015 Mac Mini. A "present" from NobodysWife that was a bit sad because her "down payment" ended up being less than 1/3 than its total price. Still, it's the thought that counts...
- 2015 Windows 8 laptop provided by NobodysWife's startup. No surprise that this is a kick-butt computer, but since it seems that her company is going under...
- 2015 Windows 8 MSI Dominator. Our newest addition, purchased with funds discovered when the startup realized they'd put the wrong number in for my wife's salary, and owed her $6000 in back pay because of a "clerical error".
And the sad part? That's AFTER I sent around 10 computers to e-waste, including the wonderful Mac IIci on which I'd done my dissertation, and that still booted in 2012, 21 years after I'd purchased it...

Well, I'm glad it does someone some good.
I played FF 10 for over 200 hours. Then loaded FF XIII.
And wondered, "Wow! Can I actually DO anything, or is this a movie with buttons?"

That was my reaction too when I tried it back in the day on a friends system but now that a movie with buttons is all I can handle I am enjoying it quite a bit.=)

Follow-up post:
Question: How do you know you live with a tech geek?
Answer: There are no fewer than SEVEN computers in your house, even when your wife is off at work, and you still feel you have too few.
I think I have six or seven at the moment... Wait, you mean working ones?!
Laptop, tablet, and probably could still turn on desktop unless the dust inside achieved stage of civilization where it harvest silica from chips for their tools. I have no idea if the Atari would work or not and I don't have a TV set that I could connect to it to check.

- 2011 Windows 7 laptop provided by <major software company>. Who would've thunk an IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad would remain one of our best computers even after 5 years?
Low end graphics? Such sets often happen to have longer lifespan than anything that lives a more intensive life of high end graphics/high powered cpu combo.
- 2013 Windows 7 desktop I built by hand for Impus Major. Holds the distinction of actually CATCHING ON FIRE when its video card burned out
I think my old desktop had scorched itself a bit when a cloth moth flew into one of the sockets. There was also a visible discharge when something on the board burned itself. I am not sure what it was and the computer kept working after that but tended to crash heavily after hour or so.
- 2014 Windows 8 laptop we bought for Impus Minor. $2000 for a piece of junk that can't even run 5-year-old games because it's so full of bloatware and Windows 8 is The Devil.
$2000? You overpaid. I got this laptop in early 2014 for £369 and it runs Windows 8 and works fine. Including games between 2004 to low end 2015. Windows 8 is passable once you get rid of the tiles and replace them with regular Start menu.
- 2015 Windows 8 laptop provided by NobodysWife's startup. No surprise that this is a kick-butt computer, but since it seems that her company is going under...
Is it owned by the company and will be gone with the company or will it stay in your hands?

They are in digital heaven now, together with all the well serving old computers that brought us tears of joy and screams of rage...

I might be in love with Gilda. She is a bit difficult at the start because she plays differently than the rest, and her ability to heal herself is nonexistent until you deliberately invest in specific tier 2-3 skills... But after completing Guardian Temple and getting neutral affinity weapon from Sezzi... Roar! It might have also helped if I had learned to use soul burst properly earlier.

The graphics will run Rift and League of Legends, which is all I play, but yeah, both are at low end. It's just a little workhorse. Love the thing!

Yeah, but after having live flames 2" from the motherboard having the thing still work is a miracle.

Oh, I *know* I grossly overpaid. We've done all the "Windows 8 optimization" stuff people recommend, and it still runs like crap. Sometimes, you just get a bad computer. It's not a big sample, but both of our computers that "run like crap" are high-end (~$2000) Lenovos.

The company's been so mismanaged that we're expecting the investors to loot and sell everything once it goes under. We have no hopes of keeping it.

I still get a tear in my eye over the IIci. Still going strong after 21 years...
EDIT: And I think that's why I'll always be firmly in the "Mac" camp. I've NEVER had a Mac go bad -- I still have running ones from 1999. The only PCs I have that are approaching that age are my old Dells from the pre-"let's ship all manufacturing to the cheapest country in Asia this month" days.
