Our GM can't play tonight, so I volunteered to run a one-shot. It's been a while since I GMed, and the adventure I'm running isn't exactly traditional (I have modified a Dark Heresy adventure for Pathfinder), so I'm getting a little nervous. I'm sure it will all go well, but what can I do? I'm a pessimist.
And now I can't find my pants!

Me this morning: Honey, were the neighbors throwing one of their parties last night, or did I dream it?
WW: I think you just dreamed it. I didn't hear anything.
Me: Weird. I could have sworn we had an argument around four a.m. about who was going to go outside and ask them to keep it down... you said I should have to go, because you could sleep through it, but you couldn't sleep through me complaining about it.
WW: Well that sounds about right.
Me: Oh, wait, it must have been a dream, because when I went out there...
WW: Yeah, that would not have happened.
Me: ...E.K. (friend of ours from our church) was over there hanging out with them and I was like, What the hell, man? and when I went back inside after reading them the riot act, they started lobbing their empties onto our roof.
WW: Oh, man, I can't wait to text him about this. Dude! My wife had the craziest dream about you last night!
Me: Don't you dare!
WW: (hits send)

I've read articles on how "charity agglomeraters" are nothing but giant scams, but to go through Global Megacorporation's matching funds program I have to use one.
In theory it's annoying but relatively efficient:
(1) I submit a donation (say $100) to a charity and request a match.
(2) The agglomerater requests another $100 from Global Megacorporation for the match. Global Megacorporation has a dedicated fund for this, so it's all automated here.
(3) The agglomerater skims a hefty 7.5% "convenience fee" off the top.
(4) The agglomerater sends the charity a check for $185.
Instead, the agglomerater sits on my money for two months. So they get their 7.5%, then they get interest on the donated money, then they eventually get around to paying the charity.
Seriously p*****s me off.

It wasn't me, it was probably the f%~*ing a&%*~@%s that plow Fitchburg.
That sounds like something they would do.

So, why are we on day 276 of a 42-day lockdown?
I got an emergency broadcast alert to stay at home except for essential services. I called the optometrist and they assured me Impus Minor’s exam counted as ‘essential’ under the order.
I drove to the Gourmet Ghetto in Berkeley to drop him off. And it is just as crowded as any other weekday. So, “Getting lunch” and “upscale shopping” are also ‘essential’. And I hear the kids playing together in the school I’m parked in front of as roughly a dozen people a minute walk by. All ‘essential’.
Which begs two questions:
(1) What ISN’T ‘essential’?
(2) What good are these ‘orders’ doing?
One might argue that the order convinces people to be careful, but, “There were 3000 new infections and 23 deaths in your county alone just yesterday,” would likely be far more effective at getting people to pay attention.

I used to get Facebook adverts for online Hebrew courses and 'tactical self-defence'; now I get Facebook adverts for what actually look like quite interesting books, and beer, which should tell me something.
One of the ones I saw was advertising a spiced eggnog marshmallow white porter, with a Star Wars theme. I seriously cannot comprehend why anyone would want to make such a thing, let alone drink it. Good grief.

I love to try seasonal brews, and even I wouldn't taste that one.

If it's one thing I've learned this week is it's probably just vodka flavored with rotten eggs used to marinate Rocky Mountain Oysters for the winter.

So, this year the grocery store that used to sell trees doesn't because the tree farmer passed away, and as we were going to get a tree somewhere else our car had engine issues which i was able to get fixed after the weekend but unfortunately that meant every single tree was sold before we could get one so this year we're without a Christmas tree so I guess we'll have to build a Christmas effigy either in the corner or outside.

1) Eggnog. No. I don't do eggnog. Can't stand the stuff.
2) Marshmallow. Nope. Not a fan. Maybe an honest-to-goodness-made-over-a-campfire s'more. One. Per year. Tops. That's it.3) White porter. What? No. Just no. No porter or stout should be light colored. Ever. It's like green ketchup. Uh-uh.
Yep, that's three strikes, and a perfect way to destroy an otherwise wonderful porter (I'm hoping).

(OK. We knew about it last year, but I was just watching a YouTuber react to it and she called it a "perfect Christmas song", so there you go.)
That was...I have to send this to an ex-girlfriend now. She's pagan. I don't know if she'll laugh her butt off or never speak to me again.

My favorite Pagan Christmas song will always be Dar Williams' "The Christians and the Pagans", because the lyrics are fabulous.

Maybe the beer was s@$&e to begin with, and that's why they added the other stuff.

Well, the night started with about 30 minutes of technical difficulties, so that wasn't great. Then we did some RP. Had a fight that lasted way longer than I expected (5 2nd level PCs against 5 1st level human warriors led by a 2nd level halfling fighter). So much missing on both sides of the fight, but I did knock out the warpriest fairly early (I wrote the encounter so that the baddies would only do non-lethal unless a PC went lethal, and then only on that character). Then some more RP, cutting out three potential combats and a lot of detective work, then moving on to a modified final fight against 2 tweaked ghouls and 4 tweaked zombies.

Ran it online I assume? What did you use? I know we still have technical issues from time to time. And yeah it does seem like its a little slower to do combat online for us anyways.

We use Roll20. Most of the issues had to do with one of the players not having time to put his character in beforehand (we just found out yesterday morning that our regular GM couldn't make it and I volunteered to run a one-shot). And there were a few things that I had done wrong. First time GMing on Roll20, so there were some things I thought I had put on one layer, but were on a different one. And just some common problems, like a map not loading for someone so they had to refresh a time or two to get it right, or lag in displaying movement for someone. It's one of those odd things where a husband and wife were playing, each on their own laptop, and one would see things happen like 30 seconds before the other. That resolved itself after a few minutes, thankfully.
