WTF?
Having rained off and on since last night, it is already wet outside.
It is raining outside right now and kind of windy.
With Sandy moving in the rain and heavy winds are going to continue picking up...Why in blazes is there a guy outside my apartment, in the rain and wind, with a hurricane coming,...running a leaf blower?
Hey, I paid him fair and square!

Count me in among those who can just pop the joint back in and move on. It doesn't really hurt anymore. I just have loose ligaments so lots of my joints do that. I had to do lots of physical therapy when it first became a problem, but once you strengthen the muscles attached to the problem joint they recover almost immediately.

Thanks for giving me hope, Lynora. I hope it doesn't dislocate, but if it does, its good to know there's life afterwards.

Yep, you just have to listen to your physical therapist and actually do the exercises. :)

Having movie night with the kidlet. We're watching curse of the black pearl. He swears that it's not too scary for him. We'll see. I may regret this later when he wakes up with nightmares for the next week.
I remmeber when I was that age. He'll have nightmares, but it's part of being a kid. My mom refused to let me watch much of anything, which was a real drag.

Most of the good memories I have of spending time with my dad as a kid involved him letting me stay up late to watch movies too scary for me. Naturally I can't resist doing the same for my kid.

Same here.

Stocked up on Frankenstorm provisions. If this thing is more hype than substance (and I hope it is), at least my cupboard will have more canned goods than it did before.
Its probably more serious for you than it is for me as you are on the island. I think were going to be just fine, a lot of fuss and nonsense over nothing, but the island's power lines are set up as if we're still living in the 70s. Be careful, avoid trees(I realize how silly that sounds, but do what you can), and make sure your sewage is flowing well.

I ain't scairt.
In all seriousness, however, I at least went out and got a few 6 packs of bottled water and some more batteries. Just to be on the safe side. Especially if the power goes out - then we would lose filtered water from the fridge, which is what Charlie mostly drinks.
The thin that bothers me most is getting water in my basement - it's gonna be a pain in the ass to clean it all out.
Stoopid storm.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go drink a cup of coffeee from my new Keurig coffee maker.
Cool. I just got a Keurig this week. I have been pleasantly surprised so far by how good the coffee is. And I definitely appreciate not having to wait half hour for coffee. My old coffee maker got way temperamental at the end.

I'm about 5 miles inland, so I don't have storm surges to worry about. I'll probably have the same kind of weather you get in Brooklyn. Windy, lots of rain, etc. Fortunately, it's been so dry the last couple of weeks that all the rivers and streams are very low heading into the storm, so river flooding is unlikely.
I'm mostly vexed by the prospect of a long time without power. That will be a pain. Fortunately I have a gas stove, so I will still be able to cook, and the temperatures will be high enough that I wouldn't be turning the heat on anyway.

Of course, my family from out of town is convinced we are going to have 10 inches of rain, 2 feet of snow, tornado-force winds, and storm surges that will sink Long Island into the Atlantic. Let's just say the national news reports are not very nuanced.
Some reports of the more nuanced variety...
****
Tropical Storm Force Wind Speed Probabilities - 120 Hours
Note:These graphics show probabilities of sustained (1-minute average) surface wind speeds equal to or exceeding 34 kt...39 mph (tropical storm force). These wind speed probability graphics are based on the official National Hurricane Center (NHC) track, intensity, and wind radii forecasts, and on NHC forecast error statistics for those forecast variables during recent years. Each graphic provides cumulative probabilities that wind speeds of at least 39 mph will occur during cumulative time periods at each specific point on the map. The cumulative periods begin at the start of the forecast period and extend through the entire 5-day forecast period at cumulative 12-hour intervals (i.e., 0-12 h, 0-24 h, 0-36 h, ... , 0-120 h). An individual graphic is produced for each cumulative interval, and the capability to zoom and animate through the periods is provided. To assess the overall risk of experiencing winds of at least 39 mph at any location, the 120-h graphics are recommended.

Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!
Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes...
The dead rising from the grave!
Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... MASS HYSTERIA!
