I baked a black pepper pork pizza with oyster mushrooms because the white button mushrooms were out of stock. I also dislocated the joint of my oven because I let the cover drop and now I can't open and close the oven door without manipulating the hinge with a paw.
It wasn't my fault! The heat from the open oven burnt off my fur!

puts hand up to ear WHAT? I cant hear you over all this porn!
Also as a side note, pornhub has put up a bunch of beesexual videos that literally are bees having sex. For every video watched they will donate to a bee charity. Because we need bees to, you know, live.
I'm eternally amused that the kids use PornHub to trade memes because PornHub has a far less restrictive upload policy than any other sites. (Copyright infringement and all that.)
My favorite moment was when Impus Major was trying to show a couple of his female friends a meme and he used a different laptop that didn't have Ad Blocker enabled.
Let's just say that the ads on PornHub are quite NSFW, and quite embarrassing for a teenage boy to be showing off to his female friends.

You never know. Depending on the ads and the female friends it could be a very good day for the teenage boy.

*SIGH*. Berkeley parents.
One of them is trying to set up a "play date" for her 16-year-old son.
Yep.
And to make matters worse, her direct quote when I told her she should be talking to my sons about their social lives, not me: "I hope they'll feel empowered to say no if they don't want to."
Er, from a few simple texts and interactions, I know what's wrong with your son's social life, and it isn't him.

Comments from posters here on FaWtL notwithstanding, I have never personally met a woman who enjoys watching porn. (Or at least who would admit to it when the subject of porn came up.)
Add, "With a male friend in whom I have no romantic interests," and the number probably goes negative.

Yep. Continuing on Yuugasa's thread, the solar guys got to watch me hose a city project just to give them space yesterday. Because Nobody enraged is a force to crumble the mightiest bureaucracy (says the letter of apology from the IRS).
Yesterday they left, telling me it would probably be two weeks before they came back.
Today they showed up and said, "No, we're going to finish the whole thing for you today."
Honestly, I think it's 3 things:
(1) The stars aligned so that they could do it.
(2) Every time they've shown up with an invoice, I've handed them a full check for it within 5 minutes of getting the invoice.
(3) I'm really nice to them.
(As they drove up this morning, I overheard the woman saying, "Oh, you're going to like this guy. He's really nice."
So of course I went to SemiFreddi's and bought them 16 fresh pastries to enjoy while they worked...)

There are extenuating circumstances for her trying to look out for her kid; if she were just approaching the other teens and trying to get them to help out I think it would be totally appropriate in this situation.
But trying to go through the other parents shows a fundamental lack of understanding of teens' social lives.
On the other hand, the Impii are really good kids. They paid no attention to the mom and went directly to the son and said, "Sure! Today's Jojo day! Come on over!"
It will be madness this evening.

Less going on!?! Did you not hear about the cornholing, fairs, and milkmaids.
What else do you want?
You wanna throw some s$%$? We have the national cow chip throwing championship in Sauk City.
You want to eat mass produced pancakes and scrambled eggs in a barn with five hundred other people? Breakfast On The Farm!
Cheese your thing? We have Cheese Days for that!
Drunkenly shooting fruit off a kid's head? Visit any rural community on a Saturday night, or if you just want to see a historical recreation of one, then the William Tell festival in New Glarus is the place to go.
when I was a kid, I did a report in wisconsin. This was before the internet. I has to write a letter to their capital, and they in turn sent me back tons of brochures. I see now that they are the greatest state ever, and I was right to write about them. Why didn't I move there back in the day?

I would gently argue this is nothing new, nor is it confined to Berkley. Moms have been meddling in their son's social lives for eons.

I would VERY gently argue that the bold is not just more likely but stark reality. Pick up a romance novel and there's your porn. Marketing by gender and culturally appropriate sexual avenues is not just a thing, it is a multi million dollar industry.

I know quite a few women who enjoy reading erotic content, or performing erotic roleplay in the bedroom, or even going to strip clubs or burlesque shows to watch other women perform or whatnot.
So I should revise my statement that, in my experience, the, "Let us watch a video of other people having sex," is something that is predominantly a male pastime. I've heard of women who enjoy it, but in my experience they're in the minority; women who've talked to me about their sex lives prefer either the experience or the written word.
The women who've mentioned video to me prefer to watch themselves...

Adulting for today:
I haven't paid the bills, I tarried too much when getting out of home... It would change nothing because the place where I pay them closed today two hours earlier because of Easter preparations.
I bought myself a new pants, though. And I think those are the first pants ever that I bought in a regular shop instead of a shop with used clothing. They were approximately –40% off, though, so I don't know if that really counts.

*SIGH*. Not quite as proud of my kids as I thought.
Impus Major continues to be a Force of Awesome, both agreeing to a 2-week extension of his banishment from Whimseyshire so I can store the Celica there, and being perfectly happy to have "New Kid" over.
Impus Minor vetoed New Kid's visit because he "doesn't like him".
I have to work out whether it's an actual personality thing, or whether it's just discomfort because New Kid is "different". I can accept the former. If it's the latter, part of maturity is accepting those with whom you're not necessarily comfortable.
The problem is that his mother took the approach of forcibly inserting him into peer groups by using other parents in the past, and she's still trying to use that approach now that he's nearing adulthood, and:
(a) The parents have less and less say into whom their kids hang out with
(b) She's massively overparenting him to the point of crippling any chance he has of growth.
I was at the pool with him. His mother went upstairs for a while. He saw the other kids playing a ball game. He said, "That looks like fun!"
I said, "Why don't you ask them whether you can play?"
He said, "I'm not sure."
I said, "That's OK. I'm right here for you if anything goes wrong."
So he asked. And the other kids welcomed him in, and he learned accomplishment.
Then his mother showed up and started ordering the other kids to throw the ball to him, telling him how to participate, etc., until the other kids promptly started ignoring him and moving on to other things, and she immediately pulled him out of the pool and made him sit at the table with us.
As is frequently the case, the parent's overparenting was the issue, rather than the son's autism. She's got to work with him and the teens. It's harder, but trying to make parents force their teens to hang out with someone just isn't going to work.
He needs help. He needs a loving, supportive adult to reassure him that what he's doing is fine. But then LET HIM DO IT!
[/podium]
Honestly, I can't imagine how hard it must be to raise a kid with severe autism. But when she starts using terms like "empowered" and telling other teens how they're supposed to be playing a game, I'll sling a bit of dirt.
Of the three kids with assistants, he's the highest-functioning. And she just needs to let him function, and to be there for him when things don't go his way. Because that's the hard part.
EDIT: And yes, I keep thinking about Lynora when I write this, and how she'd react to what I'm saying, but everything I've read from her screams, "I'm working my a$$ off to let him function when he can, and to be there for him when he can't."
Reading her accounts and watching this kid's accounts are like night and day to me. I just think Lynora's got a good handle on how to manage things, and she gets so much crap for it I feel a lot of adults in her area need a smack to the head.
Love them. Protect them. But as much as is humanly possible, let them try to be themselves.

So, is it just a depressing fact about me that I'm ecstatic that the workers are finally comfortable enough with me that they're knocking on the door and asking to use the bathroom?
I was talking with the site manager about it, and he says that usually the workers have to look for other work sites that have porta potties set up, or nearby parks, or even bottles.
Seriously. FFS, people! If you're paying these people $50,000 to rebuild your entire roof, you still think you're so much better than they are that they can't use your bathroom?
Get over yourselves!
(And yes, I've had personal interactions with people who say, "Oh, I'd never let a construction worker into my house! They're so filthy! And how do you know they're not going to steal your stuff?"
"Er, because I'm nice to them so they don't hate me and feel like stealing my stuff?")

I think there is the tendency to overparent your kid, but if your kid has special needs you tend to get even more overprotective of him. Heck my mom worries when I come back at midnight after D&D and stays up until I get back even when I told her not to, and complains I exercise too much when I do 3 exercise sessions per day(since she's a couch potato, I wouldn't put much stock into it). The human body is capable of far more things then she thinks it is. At least she didn't say anything about my rock climbing experiments.
She also constantly nags me about signing up for my insurance online account and paying my credit card bills. Eh? I can handle myself?

Why do life lessons have to be so predictable, and so expensive?
When people tell me they need help, I tend to help. When they never repay me and come back again, I say, "No. You never paid me back the last time."
It costs money, but it teaches a good lesson about being responsible for your loans.
So yeah, I told the girls I wouldn't be paying for their sweatshirts this year, but they could put the order on my card with the understanding that they would all pay me back. They all said, "OK!"
And the shirts have arrived, and I have received... $0.
So none of them are seniors, so next year they're going to ride with me again. And they'll want to order shirts again. And it won't happen. Because flaking on money is something you should never do.
(And yeah, we'll see. The "ringleader" comes over here on occasion, so if I remind her that they'd all agreed to pay me back, I may see some reimbursement...)

When School Districts Meet the 21st Century:
The choir director just informed us that the new secretary is requiring physical receipts in order to reimburse all the chaperones for their outlay.
Considering that the rental car ($400) and hotel ($400) are both modern companies that sent me e-receipts like any reasonable 21st-century company does, this could get very, very ugly.

So I'm going to attempt an analysis of The Tick. Note that my only exposure is Amazon's rendition. (I know there's a cartoon, and I assume there're comic books as well.) Anyway, here goes. Spoilered for wall-of-text, not for spoilers:
Arthur is the Everyman. He has no powers. Not even Batman's super-preparedness. He has no combat training. He's literally just an everyday Joe with a high-tech supersuit, which he didn't make and can't even repair. Oh, and his supersuit is a dull mid-tone gray.
Arthur is us; he desperately wants to be a superhero, but is constantly reminded by the Tick's presence that he barely qualifies. On a technicality. Arguably.
The Tick is big and bold and absolutely super. He is somehow both childlike in attention span, energy, and social skills, yet grandiose and genre-aware. I love his fourth-wall-breaking Monomyth commentary. He has an adult vocabulary, and speaks like a vintage 1930's super, except with even stranger word-choices. "Egad!" "My word is my warranty!" He is utterly dedicated to being a hero, and yet he has no memory of his origins. It's almost as if he sprang into existence, fully-formed, at the story's start. His grandiosity, his bright blue costume, and his incredible powers are at odds with his name -- the only Tick-like thing about him are his antennae, which thus far have proven only to be a minor weakness.
As the Tick says in episode one, "I'm the you that you always wanted to be!" And so he is.
Superian is a Superman-alike, at least in power. I love his blatant references to the old Superman movies! He doesn't get many lines in season one, but in season two we see how self-absorbed and childish he is. He's the super-est of supers, yet he becomes progressively more and more upset with getting dislikes on Twitter and by the O'Reilly-Limbaugh-Jones character stirring up xenophobia toward him. He helps people because he loves the adulation it returns; he's marginally concerned with Humanity at best, and is not above kidnapping and coercion. He trusts Arthur due to Arthur proving that the Terror faked his own death, and so he demands personal advice from Arthur; and yet in following the letter of that advise he completely violates the spirit of it. Which alienates even sane people against him.
Superian is a commentary on...how to justify a character with godlike powers who doesn't just solve the world's big problems in a day?
Not sure what to say other than this, about Superian or the story overall. As I mentioned, I'm terrible at literary analysis.

I was okay with Dobby. Hedwig cratered me.
Oh, I had totally forgotten that Hedwig dies. Just goes to show my priorities when it comes to pets. ;)
(To clarify, Dobby is a willed human-like individual, not a pet. Which is I think why his death hits me hard, whereas I forgot all about Hedwig.)
