Pretty slow day at the office.

Been typing down stuff for my next Pathfinder campaign in the meanwhile.

And doing so while completely naked, it seems.

Ohh! Perhaps that's why no one has come into my office so far!

The first Reign of Winter volume has an evil treant-like creature called the Frost Fir.

Also: Polar bears and animated snowmen.

Snow golems?

Oh yeah! I noticed those. Good call.

Oh, ooh, ooh! A water elemental in snow form, if it gets big enough you've got a sentient avalanche!

If, speaking hypothetically, you were going to make an adventure that lead characters through an Arctic wilderness with a forest and mountains to the workshop of a jolly old elf who had a certain MacGuffin in his toy shop what monsters would be appropriate? I'm thinking some sort of collosal dire yeti for a Bumble, but I don't want to throw too much claymation kitsch in the scenario. Maybe some wintry fae? Animated snow golems? Any ideas?

All I can think is the Sam and Max game where Santa was possessed by the Shambling Corporate Presence and required you to collect the four horsemen of the apocalypse figurines as part of the exorcism process.

That's classified, sir.

Oh, please. Classified is just a suggestion.

I'll have to check those out. Gnomes for the toymaking 'elves' I think. Dire Reindeer with blink powers. They don't fly but in concert they can blink long distances. Polar bears, natch. Might even have to Awaken them and give them armor-smithing skill ...

Clockwork toys for a patrol force, perhaps weird, ski-shod nutcrackers with built in wands of frost...

Animated snowmen, perhaps able to engulf characters with a gelatinous-cube-like attack and cause freezing damage while PC is entombed in the center of Frosty the Deathman...

You know, in Poland spherical ornaments are called Christmas-tree bombs... Coincidence?

I lost a whole day of job hunting and unpacking do to sinus blockage, nausea, and an abscessed tooth. There are days I hate being sick, sick, sick.

I.

Hate.

Warming up in the Southwest. I'm glad I'm on my home turf again.

I just accidentally typed "people kills" while writing a resume instead of "people skills." Freud was right.

The real question is, how many.

Liberty's Edge

Nine.

Liberty's Edge

All of them kings of Men.

Liberty's Edge

Abruptly changing the subject:

"Old flames with bad memories," indeed.

We just had a beautiful crit with the healer.

Oh god, it's started again... Five straight hours playing Morrowind. And I'm probably going to repeat the process tomorrow. I love Skyrim, but it ain't got s@~% on TES:III:MW.

So sleepy, I'm not even this sleepy when I'm asleep.

Time for the coffee fairy to visit.

Scarab Sages

Good morning FAWTLY Folk! Happy Tuesday! It's looking to be a rainy, yet warmer, day here in Philthadelphia.

Scarab Sages

Settling in to the new location in the building. There are still differences I don't like, but it's growing on me.

Scarab Sages

Kinda like a fungus.

When I picked the boy up from daycare yesterday, his little cough had gotten a lot worse. So I took a friends advice and broke out Charlie's old nebulizer. The Albuterol was still good, so I gave him a breathing treatment. Made him a bit hyper, and he had trouble going to sleep. However, that plus running his humidifier all night seems to have really made a difference. His cough was nowhere near as bad this morning.

I'm hosting and DMing the PF FR game tomorrow night.

As you can guess, we're playing in Forgotten Realms, but using PF rules. We also reset that world a bit - Time of Troubles never happened, all the big power players are dead, dark, gritty, etc.

We've taken turns DMing. This'll be my first time. Luckily, we're starting pretty fresh. The original story arc had the PCs starting in Daggerford and building to a confrontation with the evil duke. That was pretty much resolved last session courtesy of an axe to the duke's head.

So I have a bit of a clean slate to work with and build upon. The only set idea we had was moving on to Waterdeep. I was racking my brains trying to think of something and got hit by a bit of inspiration while perusing and older AP issue.....

Spoiler:
Going through AP #45, Broken Moon, I found the Stairs of the Moon - that ruined temple of Desna where the werewolves congregate. Our party has alreay fought werewolves, so I didn't want to do that again. Instead, I've repurposed it as an active temple of Selune in the Ardeep forest. A cleric of Selune (or maybe an NPC class, not sure) is journeying from Waterdeep with his kid to have the kid officially brought into the faith.

Along the way, they get attacked by Sharrans, who capture them and explain their intent to sacrifice them both to Shar at their own temple in order to desecrate the site. The father escapes and runs into the PCs - they are then attacked by a charmed Wyvern sent by the Sharrans. From there they get to backtrack to the temple and stop the Shar worshippers.

Simple, straightforward, and following DMs can build upon it in whatever way they want.

Scarab Sages

I especially can't wait to see what they do with the charmed <redacted>. It's a good CR 6 encounter, and they are level 4. I might even be able to kill one of them.

Or, if the charm is broken they could make a friend.

Scarab Sages

All righty folks. Short and sweet. Gotta go do stuff.

Silver Crusade

Morning, all. What did I miss?

The process of finding a new job is moving apace. This particular employer I have been corresponding with since the beginning of December. It has been a long process, but now they are saying things like, "We can extend you an offer after we..."

I found out they called my references yesterday and ordered a background check last week, so that is all a good sign.

Fingers crossed!

Each time I start Morrowind I reach a little beyond Balmora or Caldera and then it happens that I re-install the system or switch computer... And the Morrowind is left dead in the cold and I don't have heart to start it again for a few years.

What about a treant wearing a traffic cone?

True,...

So, Coniferous, Carnivorous Treants, with Fire Seed decorations and Glitterbombs.
Snow Golems, (With engulf/freeze attacks)
Gnomes, Building,...
Clockwork Toy Soldiers, (I love the Skiing nutcrackers!)
Frozen Water Elemental (Avalanche)
Dire, Blinking Reindeer,

Um,.... WHO exactly are you going to kill, I mean entertain with this?!? ;P

Scarab Sages

Grrrrrr.......

My fellow gamer/Dm kindly reminded me that one of the other guys had introduced a damnable folding boat to the party. I think they're planning to sail to Waterdeep instead if take the Trade Way past Ardeep Forest!

ARRRRRGGGHHHH!!!! That would put the kibosh on what I've got so far.

But, you know what? That's ok. I've got a sea-based map to use - something I had developed as part of a potential submittal to that Wayfinder thing. Never used it for that, so I might as well make plans for it now.

Spoiler:
Let's see how they like a Cult of Dagon......

Well, at least this way I've got both paths covered - one if by land, and all that.....

Hmmm...

Which party do I run a game for that could legitimately travel to a messed-up place like this??

Hmmmm... ;)

Don't worry. The motley crüe of the Silver Rose are busy for a while ...

A folding boat is cool and all, But IIRC it (used to be) is little more than a magic rowboat. (Maybe a rowboat with a small sail.)
A large party will not fit in it, and a small party will not want to get out of sight of land unless they are sailors.

I think you've got it covered,... ;P
