Never what you want to see about your COVID testing station.
EDIT: Yeah, I did wonder when they wanted me to disrobe for my COVID test...

I felt like it was just about sex and violence, and if I wanted to see that I would watch Spartacus. It wasn't "good", but I found it to be more entertaining than GoT. Plus, it wasn't so f@!!ing dark. I hate movies and tv shows that are so dark that you can't actually see anything.
Love Spartacus. Need to re-watch.

When I read Game of Thrones (the first four books), I hated them. I couldn't understand why people liked them so much. I only read them because they had been a Christmas gift from my brother (he hadn't read them either, but the show was popular-not that either of us had seen it at that point). Then I watched the first season of the show, thinking "They had to have found a way to make it work in order for it to be so popular." I hated it as much, if not more, than the books. Never watched any more of the show, donated the books to the library.
Love the books in general, but I read them YEARS before they got popular. At the time I enjoyed the approach to sex, but I really enjoyed the seeming lack of plot armor.
Hated the show due to casting issues and HBO intentional killing of fan stuff and putting put worse things for commercialization. And they f!#@ed up the sex part badly.

As I've told Impus Major: "What you are doing is illegal and could result in a citation. You're over 18 so I can't tell you what to do, but if you get a ticket you're paying for it yourself."
He's OK with that.
I'm still in quarantine.
I miss outside.

Oh, we're allowed to be out and about for exercise; it's one of the exemptions. We're just not supposed to be shopping while we're out and about.
So I control myself (I've only been to the grocery store) but I can't control others.

I don't mind brutality and violence in a show like The Sopranos, where for the most part, the people being hurt chose that life. Or Dexter, where his victims had it coming to them. GoT has too much brutality directed against the innocent, and that is hard for me to stomach.

Best think about spartacus was watching it with one of our female friends, who is a tough as nails kickboxer, has a wrestling career and two kids.
Because every time there was male nudity she'd giggle and squeeck 'ieh! A willy!' and blush.

To cushion all that is gong on, we're mixing animated shows in with the viewing.
I can really recommend Hilda on Netflix. It is fantasy and def aimed for younger kids but still very good.
Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts. All kinds of optimistic animated fun.

If people as well-educated, compassionate, and well-informed about the public health reasons for lockdown as your wife and son are don't think it's worth the inconvenience, there's no reason to expect anyone else to.

A Kung Fu student asks his teacher, "Master, why does my ability not improve? I'm always defeated." And the master, pensive and forever patient, answers, "My dear pupil, have you seen the gulls flying by the setting sun and their wings seeming like flames?"
"Yes, my master, I have."
"And a waterfall, spilling mightly over the stones without taking anything out of its proper place?"
"Yes, my master, I have witnessed it."
"And the moon, when it touches the calm water to reflect all its enormous beauty?"
"Yes, my master, I have also seen this marvelous phenomenon."
"That is the problem. You keep watching all this s&$! instead of training."

Found out today that my Mom got the COVID. She hasn't needed to be hospitalized, yet at least, but she's not feeling good. Of course, this means my Dad will almost certainly get it as well. Not great news.
Are they generally pretty healthy people? a lot of people come out of it just fine.

They don't really have any other conditions, other than being overweight. But they are in their 70s, so that's a concern too.

Musing on advice that can be good or bad, depending on the situation.
Today's musing: "Don't sweat the small stuff".
It's good advice if you accidentally cut someone off in traffic, or step on their foot on the subway: They'll have forgotten you within a few hours, so dwelling on it is pointless.
Yet with corporations, it seems to be everything.
17 years ago, I was laid off from the best job I ever had. The company had a solid, intrinsic dedication to the customer, and giving them the best product possible. I was musing about this because I was putting on a 17-year-old company pullover that's still in great shape. And I realized that I still have pencils, sweatshirts, bags, and pullovers from that company that are 17 years old and yet are still in fine condition. The company's dedication to quality even spilled over into its swag.
By comparison, nothing that Global Megacorporation has given me over the years has lasted even a single year. The zipper broke on the vest within 2 months. The bag developed a hole after only a few uses. The pen ran out of ink within a month.
And it started me thinking: The businesses I've liked the best have always had that teensy attention to detail: There was a hotel that put mints on our pillows every night that said, "You're worth a mint to us."
We loved it, and used that hotel exclusively when we were in the area. And it cost them under $0.50 a night. Not just because of the mints, but because that little gesture was reflected in all their interactions; they really seemed happy to see us, and dedicated to making our stay as comfortable as possible.
There was another hotel that put Charmin in its bathrooms instead of industrial one-ply crap. Again, it probably cost them a few hundred dollars a day, but generated thousands of dollars of good will. And again, the staff reflected the attitude.
After pondering for a while, I came to the realization that sweating the small stuff is what distinguishes excellent companies with whom I like to do business from mediocre, forgettable companies. You can recognize the entire corporate culture based on the quality of the freebies they give you when you walk in the door.
Kind of interesting, in my opinion.

Car stuff that I know most aren't interested in.
Ok. I have to admit it, Ford has done something good here...I just read an article that the 2021 F-150 Hybrid has a $750 option to add a 7.2 KW generator that is internal to the structure of the truck and just has plugs near the tailgate inside the bed. Controls inside the cab.
That's enough electricity to power everything in most homes. An equivalently rated Honda generator is about $4500 and takes up additional space. EDIT: Plus the additional maintenance, fuel going stale, etc.
So if you're in the market for a new truck and need a generator even just once in a while this is a really good option. I can easily see a lot of construction companies picking up a few of these for their fleets, but even for regular consumers...power outages from most storms pretty much becomes a non-issue.

Freehold, I love you, but in your efforts to influence the weather you are having some bad side effects. Stop it.
Normally I would say "YES! LET CHAOS REIGN! HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAAAA" but given the events of the past few days I am more than willing to back off from that. I will allow the weather to continue unmolested for now, and allow math to continue doing...whatever math does.

Working for a global megacorporation has its disadvantages, one of which is that every year I have to take global compliance training in areas that don't apply to me.
Today's example? Workplace safety.
I usually diligently listen through anyway, just to pass the exam, get the cert, and be "certified safe" at my non-existent workplace for another year, but this year:
(1) COVID has shut down all our buildings worldwide so no one needs this training, and
(2) They "gamified" it to try to make it more "fun":
You are about to go on an adventure to help keep your colleagues safe and compliant.
You will spend the next 45 minutes on Cloud Island helping to promote a safe workplace, prepare for emergencies, protect the environment and locate safety resources.
When you reach the end of your quest, you will receive credit for completing this course.
Ready to begin?
I think I threw up in my mouth a little just quoting that.
