What would you put as your all time top fav?

Edit: It's me isn't it?

Woohoo!

The director of the ballet company emailed last night, thanking the children for auditioning and posting the cast list. They're cutting the cast in half this year to keep the children distanced on stage (they're doing the same with the audience, but live-streaming it from the theater). Hermione made the cast for the first time! She's super excited. She really wanted to be one of the mice, but got cast as an angel instead (yes, we're in the bible belt, and apparently our ballet company does angels instead of snowflakes). Val didn't make the cut this year; I haven't told him yet.

I like the story for Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 76 Wastelanders, but my favorite one to play is Fallout 4.

Yeah I like that one too. I played through it twice. Once with a tech gun guy and the next with one punch man. surprisingly max str max luck guy made it seem easy compared to tech gun guy. Turns out the fist is mightier then the gun.

Skyrim was pretty good but I thought it was overrated.

It was a lot of fun to play, but I wasn't so into the whole vikings everywhere thing. Morrowind was streets ahead in terms of atmosphere, as I've said before.

If you die, you can't show up to work either. You will also burden your family with the debts created by your death.

It sucks beyond words that is the decision many feel they have to make.

Look, I used to work an hourly job with no health insurance, and it f~@*ing sucks. I am not ignorant to how awful the American health system is and do not need to be lectured about it, especially as I still remember what it took to pay for an emergency room visit while I was working retail (more or less, most of my soul). At the same time I have no idea who is or isn't American here, as not everyone is, or in general what folks' life circumstances are. I, perhaps mistakenly, presume everyone here is grown up and mature enough to apply whatever advice is given by anyone within the limits and constraints of their lives, knowing that blanket advice cannot apply to everyone equally. I trust everyone makes the best choice they can depending upon their circumstances.

And as I said, all of my advice should be taken with a grain of salt. I will note the advice is offered not to make anyone feel bad about their financial situation, but with the hope it might save a life or two where possible. If anyone has a problem with that or needs to play the pedant and talk down to me like I don't know what adult life is, they can kindly f~%# off.

Also, BTW, the COVID materials I have to read cover what developing countries are doing to handle the pandemic. Countries where people aren't just afraid of getting cold and flu at the same time as COVID, but malaria and dengue, and they live in such distant places health services or even phone or internet access are often not an option. This is not to say anyone should "feel lucky" about being in even slightly better circumstances, but to note--I have it in my face every day the access problems people have all over the world to getting the help they need when they need it. The world is a terrible, awful, evil place that has gotten even more terrible, awful, and evil, and I'm sorry I...

as someone who is currently not...liking...his boss or his job at the moment, I do not think what was said was aimed at you at all, but was instead aimed at the awful situation many people are in right now.

I'm planning a zoom meeting as we speak to address many of the things you mentioned in the post previous to this on a job-wide level for the people on and off my caseload as well as my staff, so this speaks very loudly(loudly? Is that the right word? I don't know) to me.

Overall pleased with DF plaguestone sets. Not a one to one match to the map, but it works. And it looks cool. So will need to brush up on 2E combat so I can run for my virtual group soonish.

I'm glad she got in, but it must be hard when one child gets in and another doesn't.

I am blessed that my work provides health insurance and has opted to maintain a work from home position throughout this debacle.

That said, I did have to work my ass off to be a position to get this job.

And, I am very thankful that I do not litigate. The attorneys that have to deal with the courtrooms right now have my respect.

I know I keep saying it, but geez, this generation.

Last night Impus Major and his friends went to a park so most of them could get drunk and/or stoned. Since it was a work night for me and I don't sleep well when he's out at such activities, I asked him to be home by 10. So...
(1) As usual, Impus Major did not partake. I'd love to take credit for that one with my tales of fighting my own addictions, but I was the exact same way at his age: "If I'm hanging out with my friends, why would I want/need to take drugs to enjoy myself?"
Still, nice to know that the gang has at least two responsible kids who don't partake and can help out if things go sideways.

(2) When Impus Major told the group, "Yeah, my dad asked me to be home by 10," instead of trying to peer-pressure him into staying, they all said, "OK, that's cool. Let's call it a wrap at 10, then."
I have never heard of such a thing before. Kids always want to stay out 'til the wee hours. Yet they all went along with my request without a peep.

(3) One of the kids who had driven there got himself stupid drunk. Instead of trying to drive himself home (which pretty much ALL the kids I knew in my generation would have done, because their parents "would have killed them" if they left the car somewhere), he asked Impus Major to drive him home and they'd pick up the car in the morning.

Good sense, maturity, and making the right calls. All at 19 years old.

I'm impressed.

EDIT: Yeah, in hindsight it would have been wiser for Impus Major to have gotten the keys from the guy so he and I could have picked up the car last night (basically rewarding the kids for showing good sense), but we didn't, so we'll remember for next time.

After having the lines be too busy for most of the day to get trough, I'm now listening to wait music on the corona testline so hopefully I'll be able to book an apointment this week, somewhere.

First up NH, as a parent of 2 teenage girls I have "kid envy." My girls are usually the ones pushing their friends to stay out super late and blow off curfews. Also my girls are... partakers.

Second, speaking of my girls, it was nice to reconnect with my younger one this weekend. She and I have always had food and more importantly food bravery in common. We've tried lots of different cuisines and found a lot of new stuff together. One place we discovered was a ramen place downtown with lots of weird, unique or spicy ramen and small plate options.

The place has been closed for a bit during all this but it recently came back. We got down there this weekend and I had my usual super spicy pork ramen while she had a veggie shoyu. It was SO good!

We laughed, chatted for like 2 hours, and just genuinely had a good time. I miss that kid. She gets lost sometimes in the other kid she shows the outside world.

Aaaand, here we go again: Our unprecedented third 90+°F heat wave this summer, combined with some new fires to send our AQI up into the 70s and make it reek of smoke... again.

On the bright side, Impus Major's friend's parents retrieved the car last night (that was my big worry, since cars left overnight in odd locations are #1 on our property crime list around here). Impus Major and his friend went there this morning and not only found his lost AirPods (now there's an expensive loss), but found his car keys lying there as well.

So yeah, drunken guy left car keys, car, and AirPod in the sand at a public park last night. And this morning all of it had been recovered without incident.

Good news for once!

Well, at least when the heat breaks around here, it breaks fast.

At 12:30 pm, it was 98°F. It's already dropped to 88°F and the AQI has dropped from 79 to 64.

Why hello, onshore flow! We missed you!

It was a lovely 50* this morning and reached a high of 70*, mostly thanks to raining all day yesterday. Right there with you, man.

It was fifty degrees here as well, with rain showers, which I didn't notice because I was already blasting myself with pressurized water because I was cutting in a fire pit in the middle of a patio.

Me (looking up after cutting the last paver): Hey, it's raining!

Co-worker: Yeah, it's been raining for about twenty minutes now.

Not a good omen for the rest of the game.

I couldn't enjoy the Kingmaker vidja game until I modded it to heck and back and tweaked the difficulty(Lowered difficulty, removed enemy crits and flipped on resting heals all afflictions). The stats on the enemies are so absurd without tweaking the difficulty. Hello CR 16 Will-O-Wisp at level 5. I have no idea why anyone thinks Isometric Realtime RPGs(Or OG Baldur's Gate Style) still sell. Case in point, the most wildly popular mod for Kingmaker is one that makes it turn based...and then they released an official turn-based mode.

IIRC, baldurs gate had a turn based mode as well.

I too am having trouble enjoying kingmaker. I seem to get into fights with people who think its the greatest game ever made and that time limits are the bees knees and that that damn will o the wisp is completely okay to meet at level 2. Kingdom building seems a bit weird too. I can't quite seem to leave it per se.

Aaaand... there you have the difference between "companies I like to do business with" and "companies that exist".

Our loan officer promised us the disclosure docs by EOD today. They didn't show up. And within 20 minutes I had an email from her: "Sorry! They're running behind! You should see it in the morning!"

Gee... clear, honest communication. What a concept!

Aww! GothBard's company sent her a care package today, thanking her for sticking it out through the COVID-19 epidemic.

I feel there was a distinct drop in quality with Peace Talks. It was clearly half a book, with a crap cliffhanger, and the Butters/Andi/Marci thing seemed like author fantasy avataring with no plot relevance whatsoever.

Butcher is good. Damn good. The problem is he knows it, and seems to be using half his ass lately.

But damn if I don't love Dresden Files enough to keep reading despite it. I mean after a couple dozen gold nuggets, some copper isn't gonna get me to quit.

It's not like the snorefest that was Furies of Calderon, AKA pokemon with swords. The protag had no faults whatsoever, aside from being a muggle. His growth over five novels was what, getting powers? He was so bland I couldn't even remember his personality beyond "lucky" and "generic good guy". His steampunk book was even less memorable.

Dude should stick to Dresden. That at least is entertaining even when he is putting in his half assed effort.

actually to be fair, I was thinking about Lisamarlene AND your wife.

There's a character in Kingmaker that reminds me of Lisamarlene and when I showed her the picture she scoffed and said it was Gothbard. So now I just see the two of them instead of the one character.

Which is weird when she says flirtatious things like 'I'll do whatever you wish! *laughter*'

Random thoughts

Stygian Barge (reaper) yes or no? One available painted so it would not necessarily add to my boxes of shame.

Butcher - you know, if he needs to write a calderon or steam punk to flush his brain every now and then, I am ok with that. He has said that calderon was his first story he wrote. he could not sell it because the market for sword and horse fantasy was pretty saturated (and the first book is arguably the weakest). It was only when he had dresden in the bank that he had the clout to push for its publication. if that gave him joy, and helped him justify (in his mind) continuing to write dresden, I am okay with that. I don't need every one to be a home run. I just need enough structure to get to a logical conclusion with most of the loose ends tied up. I don't need another jordan (thank you sanderson for saving that one) or martin.

Down 4 lbs so far this month after trying to rededicate myself to some weight loss goals. Long way to go, but running/peloton/calorie counting is showing progress. If I can find time to push the bike time to an hour instead of 20-30 minutes I think I will begin to see the progress I want, but for now, any progress is good.

I am ashamed to say that diet doctor pepper is no longer tasty to my palate. Not sure if I changed or just a couple months without reset my taste buds, but now it just tastes like chemicals instead of sweet sucralose.

Are cotillions and debutant balls still a thing that are acceptable to attend/support?

Because they do? KM has its faults, don't get me wrong, but the Kickstarter for it was wildly successful, the one for Wrath of the Righteous only slightly less so, and the sales of the game have been perfectly respectable and the reviews moderately majority positive.

There's clearly a strong market for this kind of game - even outside Owlcat, you have similar games like Divinity, Hades, Disco Elysium, and of course the upcoming Baldurs Gate 3, all quite popular and selling well. Just searching "isometric" on Steam brings up over 150 titles.

I think the mods are a result of a lot of players realizing they're no longer teenagers with completely open schedules anymore to spend beating their heads against the game's difficulty curve. But they still want to play the game enough to not just quit, so modding the difficulty and/or going around the problem instead.

Diet? Nothing to be ashamed of that you can now identify all that chemically taste in diet drinks.

Depends on who you want to be accepted by. PM me if you want a really long discussion from the viewpoint of someone who a) went through all that as a young woman and b) spent a week living in Zuccotti Park.

If you look in the top right corner of the forum layout, there should be a symbol resembling a series of bars that when clicked bring down a popup menu. If these have a red dot on them, you have unread PMs, community messages, or profile alerts.

Not sure if Safari has that function. Will try to check more frequently.
