I don't think that particular beverage is all that common elsewhere, though, so "cider" tends to universally refer to the fermented alcoholic variety.Kajehase wrote:What are these other ciders like? Are they carbonated? Are they alcoholic?Several different ones actually - my favourite is a French one called "Cidre Blonde," and there's one from Normandy I forget the name of right now. "Olde English" and "Strongbow" are pretty good as well.
I pretty much like any cider, as long as it's a proper one (made from, and tastes of, apples) and dry. Sweet ciders are basically just alcopops in a fancy suit, and I'm not a fan of the combination of sweet taste and alcohol - too cloying.
It's weird that our cider is relatively unheard of in some places.

Shotokan. (We just call it 'Karate') :)
Good morning FAWTL-ies!
Morning? Wait, didn't we JUST have one of those?!? ;P
And,... I still like a nice cold glass of 'regular' (non-alcoholic) cider on a hot day, or a mulled cup on a cold one. But By far my fave is the Hard Ciders. :D

Later tonight it's supposed to continue snowing - total accumulation around 3 inches or so. The wife has her book club meeting tonight. My gaming buddy Todd's wife is also part of the club and it's over at the house of a guy (his wife runs it) I use to game with (the guy who ran Flagons and Dragons).
Coincidently, my buddy Todd sent me an email the other day about bringing Charlie over to his house tonight for pizza and a movie. Methinks the wives conspired to put this thought in his head so that mine wouldn't have to drive herself in the snow.
Devious.
Brilliant!!!

*sigh* My FR game witch players anxiety neurosis makes her afraid to appear on session because she does not know how one of the hosts react to her after the host got angered on her. Except the host weren't angered, just needed some more personal space but the witch's anxiety overblown it terribly. So she waited for the host to contact her first and give sign that she isn't angry on her anymore. Because host wasn't angry, she wasn't giving the sign she is not angry anymore... Any lesser attempts of communication weren't noticed. Yargh.
I talked to both players and asked the host to try to speak some sense into her. We'll see if she appear on Sunday.
It would be a shame to lose the witch from the party, as she is good player. Besides of this, of the three women present in the party she has the best grasp of Pathfinder mechanics.
Did I said *sigh*?

WTF! I was taking advantage of the Paizo holiday discount code to pick up some desired PDFs. I checked through My Downloads and found s%+* I've ordered and never downloaded. It seems many of these were during PaizoCon over the summer, so I'm guessing booze and Cosmo's unparalleled salesmanship played a factor.

I have a bunch of docs like that as well that I've just never gotten around to DLing. I'll need to do that and peruse them for more things to use against my players =D

Do anyone hears Cosmo's impish giggling? No? It must have been wind then.

Then of course you get the dry cloudy ciders or scrumpy. Which tends to be slightly more vinegary and is still. A drier and less sweet drink, still with a fruity tasteThese have a high alcohol content 6-10%.
Whilst there are a number of carbonated ciders, or Perries (Pear Ciders). Koppaberg is very good and sweet with a number of different fruity flavours. But Bulmers and Magners are the most popular bottled ciders.

We have fresh pressed cider in these parts, too, since there are many apple orchards nearby. 'Hard cider' is the term for the alcoholic stuff. I didn't know so many people used the generic cider for hard cider.
One of my favorite times in college was after I bought fresh-pressed cider at a roadside orchard stand - no preservatives, no pasteurization. I set it near the radiator in the dorm room. Two weeks later I opened it planning to throw it away and... voila! Apple wine!
My roommate was gone, so I spent the entire weekend pleasantly alone in a mild buzz, sipping apple wine, doing homework, and reading. Ahhhhh.

Wow. Jealous.
Seriously, you are either very very good, or very very lucky. Because making that happen without actually trying to sounds like nothing short of a miracle.
A happy happy miracle! :)
Heh, flashback, I had a college teacher once spend an entire classtime giving the class detailed instructions on how to make Dandelion wine.
I think that is probably the only thing I remember from that particular class,... ;P

Uh, non-alcoholic cider? You know it's called apple juice, right?
It's like insisting on calling a grape juice non-alcoholic wine...

It's not the same as apple juice.
The way it is used here is that cider is fresh-pressed, not that clear, reconstituted crap you get in stores. It's distinct from juice. Hard cider is fermented and alcoholic.
Dictionary definitions and colloquial usage are not always precisely aligned.
