Well, this should be an interesting meeting...
...SVP just called an emergency All Hands for Monday.I see two possibilities:
(1) He heard the horrified feedback to his "Return to Work" mandate and he wants to apologize and clarify.(2) He heard the horrified feedback to his "Return to Work" mandate and he wants to double down.
But we'll see on Monday...
Or
(3) It could be a totally unrelated meeting.Who knew?
EDIT: Ah, interesting that I set up my camera and ended up here..

Today we start Star Trek Adventures with the Monday group.
I already play STA with the Thursday group (the same GM, different players, aside of me).
Now I will be Federation Orion chief engineer with moderately flexible morals and approach to regulations.
Totally missed opportunity if they're not named "Miles Orion."

And inevitably it's those sorts of players who get really bent out of shape when you as the GM insist that the bad guys and NPCs continue doing what they were doing, not stopping to wait for hours so the PCs can recover...
This is also the same player who was complaining about how the bad guys are always ahead of them, and yet insisted that when they reached this city, following a member of the baddies, that they take 8 days to craft magic items. Even if the AP wasn't written such that the PCs are always playing catch-up, they would definitely be behind after that.

It is official. I will not be travelling to Florida via Colorado from Illinois for my brother-in-law's wedding.
His bride-to-be's family was insisting upon certain things to be done at certain price points. His response was "Well, ok...I guess..."
He had no idea that they were making these demands with the intention of him paying for the whole thing. He certainly wasn't under that impression. Took his fiancee by surprise too.
So they scrapped all plans and gave his parents and her parents a one-week notice to meet them in Grenada for a wedding next week.
Aiymi's dad and stepmom have to catch a flight at 2am on Easter to a Caribbean Island. I'm sure that flight was definitely cheap and on some steep discounts. Uh-huh. Yep.

...what.
You have NO idea how seriously my very, very distant kin take Easter.
Good luck getting a ticket, forget the price.

LOL. As a Californian, I was far more appalled at the whole, "And you need to spend at least $xxx much on this aspect of the wedding."
Telling me how much to spend is appalling. (Try that whole, "Three months' salary" thing around here and people will look at you like you've grown a second head.)
The fact that they did that and then didn't even want to help pay for it was a spectacular "Wow!" moment for me.
I don't understand many cultural norms from other places...

That's not a cultural norm, that's just a&@+!$*s being a!%!!~~s to be a*%%++@s.

I got pissed off at a guy at shop after he was told that they will open a lane specially for him, and he kept ranting at the cashier at the (sole open lane, in addition to self-checkouts) after being repeatedly told to go to the lane they will open for him and unpack his groceries.
I finally burst and told him to "f**k off!" he started going that he isn't talking to me. I almost punched him. I am still cooling down...
It though it took me a while to get why he pushed my buttons so hard that I got that angered at him (as merely annoyed when I see narcistic prima donnas like that and prevent shop staff from doing their job) - he pushed through my lane to talk at the cashier and was staying in my personal space all that time, less than two feet from me, stopping the whole queue for two minutes while complaining about the queue...
I would be angry at the shop manager for sending someone to open a checkout just for him, but I understand they might (a) have to face a complaint later, and (b) that's the fastest way to get rid of problematic customer. Still, that kind of policy is what breeds over-entitlement from egocentric a~%@%*%s like him.
EDIT: at the moment I am annoyed that I didn't explicitly told him to "f**k out of my personal space and my place in queue". As someone who remembers the last years of communist regime, I treat standing in queues seriously.
EDIT2: He wasn't vulgar or anything, he just kept ranting about single checkout lane being open and standing there, ignoring staff explicitly telling him that they will open another checkout lane for him and that he needs to get out of this lane and start unpacking his groceries.

Now, the really most annoying part of that unwanted human interaction is that I went with crass "f**k off" instead of some witty remark.
Yeah, some people are just amazing that way. Apparently a guy was walking down the street and tripped, spilling $2 in change all over the street. A woman looked over and said, "Ha, Sonic! Not so powerful now, are you?"
How did she DO that?

Who is Thor's favorite rapper? MC Hammer.

What do you call a dinosaur that can control lightning? A brachio-Thor-us.
What is Thor's favorite cereal? Loki Charms.
What is Thor's favorite dance? The Loki-Pokey.
Why does Thor iron his cloak? Because he knows what a Crisp Hem's Worth.

Man. That broke the thread.
Well, remember that I'm no longer posting about politics and no longer posting about other people, so we're down to me posting about myself and the things that annoy me.
And I'm pretty darned boring, and have already griped about all the things I hate, so there you go...

I'm also finally suffering from a midlife crisis where I am fundamentally done with work. I don't hate my job; there are just so many things that I'd rather be doing than working that I find it distressing that I'm looking at another 15 years here at Global Megacorporation.
Why?
Because teaching doesn't pay the bills, and no other jobs sound any better. I'm very, very good at what I do, but it's just not particularly satisfying. So if I move, I'm just doing similarly boring things for someone else. So why bother?
And I realize that, while everyone else I know has been laid off and faced months of unemployment over their careers, I have never been truly laid off, so I've been working solid since 1996 with no significant breaks. As a teacher from 1996-1999 I had summers "off", but those were typically spent interviewing for next year's positions or finding odd work to do to make up for my low salary. But since 1999? I haven't had a single month of down time.
That's a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG stretch to be working.
And I think that's finally affecting me.
It's why sensible companies offer three-month sabbaticals once every five years. Sometimes, you just need to recharge.

is Global Megacorp "sensible"?
LOL. Of course not.
But GothBard pointed out that I should just ask for a month off and it's not like they'll say no, so probably some time in 2024 I'll be kicking back and doing absolutely nothing for a month.
That's something to look forward to.

You will probably need to flee your home, or alternatively, send Imps somewhere far away for the whole month to really be doing nothing.

Believe it or not, I think it's such a good idea I just proposed it to my Executive Vice President.
That's one thing I'll say about Global Megacorporation -- as long as you're not a jerk about it, you can propose anything you want to upper management, and they'll at least come back with a reasonable way to say, "No."

So, it's been over 3 years since COVID turned Zoom into a household name. We were doing remote meetings for YEARS before that.
So when you're watching a recorded Zoom presentation from a couple of days ago and the entire presentation gets disrupted by a woman yelling at her kid to get out of the room because she's watching a presentation and she never bothered to mute herself, you marvel at the sheer incompetence/audacity of it all...

Yeah, that's every meeting ever in the Midwest, zoom or not.

Can we weaponize clowns? It would save money. Just picture it. One single small boat lands on the beach, and an entire army of clown soldiers pours out.
Well, that's enough to give me nightmares tonight.
Not sure which creep me out more, clowns or chickens, but I'm afraid of both.

If NH is going to stay away from political comments, I'll step in for this one.
You live in Texas. You are completely surrounded by clowns and chickens.

It's always entertaining to see "that guy" pop up.
I posted the sabbatical suggestion to the EVP's Slack channel.
Of 11,000+ subscribers, 44 upvoted the idea. And one guy posted an eyeroll.
You know he's looking for brownie points from his supervisor.
(It's not rocket science -- asking for one month of paid leave per 5 years with the company is a 1.67% loss of productivity to the company. So, do you think that the rest of the time the employee will be 1.67% more productive because of that sabbatical? I believe the answer is "Yes", but you can do research and figure it out. Ignoring any research and saying, "No. Employees need to be abused as much as possible to wring every drop of productivity out of them that you can," has been proven time and time again to be the absolute wrong approach. Yet almost every manager is trained in this 1970s style and never gets the most out of their employees.)

In other news, I am surprisingly excited about today's storm. Last week we exactly tied 1952's record for highest snowpack ever measured in the Sierras. So the snow had a week to settle and melt, meaning we probably lost a foot or two, and today and tomorrow's storm is likely the last storm of the season, so whether or not we beat 1952 is up in the air.
Go, snow!

Aiymi: "Well both cats are going to be put to sleep on Friday, the 21st."
Me: "....Um...WHAT?"
Aiymi: "Teeth cleaning...butt probes...not...I'm so sorry."
Fun story, when I was 13 I went to a 4-H dance and made out with this girl I had a crush on. The next morning my dad burst into my room, waking me up, exclaiming "congratulations! You're a dad!!" I sat bolt upright and said "you said it doesn't work like that?!!" My dad gave me a weird look and said "Your dog is going into labor" so I laid my head back down and said "oh thank God!" And then he says "what did you think I meant.." "nothing, it doesn't matter".

Today was the EGGPOCALYPSE, where we hid ovoid confectionary all over the house, then Sonic's pals all came over (as did my sister, my brother-in-law, and their kids), and found them all in about five minutes, then sitting down to eat them all. The children all had a good time, which was the main thing, and it was nice to see my sister and family.
