It was kinda funny how when I pointed to her through the door and gestured to indicate she needed a mask, her first instinct was to hide behind him.
And they were nowhere near old enough for AARP. I'm not great at estimating ages, but I would say mid to late 30s.
Well, you know what happens when you assume? Me make an ass out of you.

Month starts with evening shift at work. Never going to get used to this, I fear.
Tabletop situation has been lively, Kingmaker I've been running online is now at the final book, a friend picked up an old Cyberpunk campaign, and another friend is now writing a Spelljammer game he had planned. I also finally started running my first ever GURPS game.

For some reason this story just popped into my head. I read it in an issue of Knights of the Dinner Table. I'll try to paraphrase it as best as I can recall:
A group was playing GURPS (I think), and were doing a modern/near-future spy campaign. They were planning on how to covertly enter an enemy country. They had access to a small plane, and one of them could pilot it. They were sure that the plane would be shot down, so the plan was to jump out and parachute down. But, they didn't want to leave an empty plane, as it would point to someone having jumped out. They knew they needed some way to trick whoever investigated into thinking that all the people onboard had died. They were debating on the possibility of stealing four corpses (as there were four of them) from a morgue, and leaving them in the plane after they jumped out. This idea, obviously, upset several members of the team. Then one of them said "I've got it! We kill a cow, and use that to fool them." When the others questioned how this would work, he stated "Cows have four stomachs. There are four of us. They'll see the four stomachs and assume everyone on board must have died." Because that is always the proper method of identifying how many people died in an accident: count the stomachs.

Let's see, the GURPS games I've had, some notable examples being...
- Cyberpunk game where we're basically outlaws just trying to survive
- Wuxia campaign with our characters trying to figure out mysterious destruction of the countryside by some evil magic
- Multiple space adventure campaigns where I've been everything from a spaceship's chef to the first mate all the way to playing a captain
...but yeah, as I said, my experiences with GURPS have been good, the bad reputation the system has online has always baffled me.

Thursdays MrT was feeling quite bad.
He had finished work, and was looking forward to getting two weeks of vacation. After having experienced high stress, he chalked it up to the stress relief setting in and his body reacting to it.
Yes he had some pain in his chest but his stomach was also majorly upset (nausea, burping, acid) and he's had before that acid burn/reflux caused him pain.
So he took some stomach pills and went to bed early.
During the weekend he kept feeling bad. I asked him if he wanted to go to the dokter several times but he felt it would pass.
Monday rolls around, he still feels like crap. Off to the dokter with him.
Dokter does some tests and calls an ambulance to take him to the hospital.
He's been in the hospital since monday afternoon. Turns out on thursday he had a heart attack. He's now under 24 hour observation (as in, he is constantly monitored).

heart attacks can be so tricky because it sometimes indeed feels like an upset stomach or something milder. I'm so sorry. Please keep us apprised of whether or not you or he need anything. Please heal mr. T!

GURPS is a meh system but it lends itself well to DMs who have a game planned out step by step. Sometimes the players fail to see that DMs "genius" and trouble starts.

Thoughts, prayers and best wishes for Mr T and you both, Woran! Gran, glad to hear your parents are on the mend.
My daughter had a panic attack over the weekend. She's been diagnosed with anxiety and this hasn't been the first one I've talked her down from, but its so scary as a parent. She says, in the midst of the attack, that she's having chest pain and her head is "killing" her; her legs shake and convulse sometimes. I can't tell as her dad if something's ACTUALLY wrong or if it's just the panic and I live in constant fear that I'm going to waste time trying to talk her through a panic attack when she's really in physical crisis.

It's not unlikely that my anxiety will kill me that way - I have anxiety-based chest pains myself and some tendency to get heartburns (occasionally at the same time) so if I ever get a heart attack, I might ignore it if it the pain won't be overwhelming enough.

If you're the one going through it, a panic attack IS a real crisis. Keep with her. You have no idea how much she appreciates your support, even if she doesn't articulate it.
Yeah, when I've had panic attacks, having someone trusted nearby as a barometer of calm stability was very reassuring and has even helped me keep it together a bit and/or wind things down a bit sooner. You don't have to magically fix things or say the perfect words, because you can't; it's a brain chemistry/response thing. But just being there for her helps more than you know.
And I don't know if you need to hear it or not, but you are being a good parent. Thank you for that.

Unfortunately our groundhog has become a lying little son of a b&!~+ ever since he bit off part of the mayor's ear and they don't let him near the mayor anymore.
So, while he says early spring, the lack of a blood sacrifice has me less than convinced.

MrT is doing fine, all things concidered, and being nicely drugged up. No pain, still some nausea/burping and very, very tired.
He is annoyed at the hospital bed being quite small.
Tomorrow he'll get an MRI to see how the blood flow is in his heart and then see if they will operate (and if they do, what kind of operation)
So far, Im donig pretty good. MrT was feeling so bad during the weekend that I was super worried. When he finally did get to the doctor and they took him to the hospital it was more of a relief then a scare.

Yay! Literally just came here to check! Please keep us updated when you can. Rest well, when possible. God bless you both and you are in my prayers.

Best wishes, Woran.
Also, update on my parents:
Dad is responding well to the treatment for the touch of pneumonia he picked up in addition to COVID. He is feeling much better, still bad, but improving. Mom says she is doing fine, which means she's still sick doesn't want to say she is. Dad says that she is mostly over it, just has to deal with the long-term effects. So, all in all, good news.
The other thing I came to check on!
Glad to hear your dad's improving. My parents often downplay problems as well, but usually only if it would get in the way of me asking them a favor. Praying for your family as well.

Glad to hear about everyone's improvement!
Our image arrived, so I'm heads-down for the next week.
On the bright side, we did our "final" big-item pick-up today and our back yard is no longer cluttered with old junk... except the stuff the contractors have dumped out there, but considering their "dump fee" for the project is $850, I expect all that stuff to be hauled away by the end.

In terms of times of mental distress and just being there, Impus Major is the "rock" among his friends, and he still doesn't understand what he does for them. They freak out (one depression, one anxiety, one self-loathing, one anger management), he just stands there and listens to them and is sympathetic, and they recover and talk about how much he helps them. And he just doesn't get it because he "doesn't know what to say".
You don't have to say anything, Impus Major. You just be you.
(And yes, he attracts psychologically distressed people like bears to honey; he just has that, "I'm emotionally rock-solid" aura that they need to help themselves.)

No, that's why they have the guy in the suit, because the Jimmy bit off part of the mayor's ear but then had developed a taste for it and kept trying to bite off people's ears even through a muzzle and had to be retired.
As soon as they stopped letting him bite people's ears his prognostications have gone in the toilet.

One of the headlights in my car burned out the other day. This morning I bought a replacement bulb. Normally, I would just buy the cheapest one, but since the next level up was only about $2.50 more, I thought I would try it. So I have one new, mid-grade bulb, and one el-cheapo bulb (that is at least 2 or 3 years old, but no more than 4), and I can't tell a damned bit of difference between them.
